  1. Hi did the mechanic tell you when you fit the new sensor you have to do the adaptations after clearing the fault codes the clue is in the fault frequency and not confirmed, tested since memory CLEAR, put the codes to bed and do the sensor adaptations I am pretty sure it will be fine. Steve.
  2. Hi Yuasa are a premium battery they are used on practically every Japanese motor cycle built and the American military use them on some of their vehicles, you have to register the battery with the BEM module this is done with a diagnostic platform VCDS or Snap on. Steve.
  3. Hi what grade oil are you using as that can have an effect on the problem. Steve.
  4. Hi try contacting ECU Testing they may well have a repaired unit in stock. Steve.
  5. Hi as Gareth said its most likely the battery, it is a feature of AGM batteries that the stop start will not function as it draws massive amounts of amperage every time it kicks in so as the battery gets older it can do without the extra grief, the sad fact of the matter is stop start really is not that efficient in cutting emissions as every time you start up again the PCM goes through a slight enrichment procedure to make sure the engine starts, more fuel extra emissions, I just turn mine off when I start up and eventually there is a process on my diagnostic software to disable stop/start which I intend to use, the only real benefit of this particular technology is that it makes more money for the dealerships replacing starter motors and worse case scenarios DMFs because its creamed the ring gear in record time. Steve.
  6. Hi its the hydraulic tappets not quite sitting properly as the oil is thick when that cold and it forms larger molecules when cold and is slower going through the Venturi that are very small but help to maintain the clearance between the cam followers and the cam lobes therefore until warm the clearances are slightly larger so it rattles a bit. Steve.
  7. Hi that could be an ancillary drive belt slipping where the engine is struggling worth checking the condition of the belt and tensioner as most people tend to forget about this item until it breaks, the belt is supposed to be changed every 30k or two years, I digress if you cure the rough cold start I have a feeling the rubbing noise will go with it provided there is nothing wrong with the belt cracking on the running ribs etc. Steve.
  8. Hi, could be the glow plugs are beginning to fail this won't throw up any codes when they are weak but will let you have a light or a code when not operating. Steve.
  9. Hi its deffo on line from the Hydra site, or get mine off of eBay some sellers are offering it for a couple of quid less but if you want it real quick get it off Hydra direct. Steve.
  10. No worries I hope you are very happy with the smoother running and extra MPG.
  11. Hi keeping the power supply continuity preserves the codings until you register the new battery, as if you don't marry the new battery up with the BEM it carries on overcharging the new battery and kills it in record time. Try emailing Ross Tech with your problem my friend did it with a steering sqib on a Passat and they told him how to recover the codes. Steve.
  12. Hi can't quite understand what you are driving at the MAP measures the pressure differential between the air coming in reading supplied by the MAF sensor and what has actually arrived at the manifold the exhaust temp sensor lives next to the oxygen sensor and there is another one after the cat. Steve.
  13. Hi well if you consider where that sensor lives it is not the most friendly of environments constant stratospheric temperatures just like my oxygen sensor therefore at five years and seventy thousand its not done to badly. Steve.
  14. Hi which sensor was replaced?, any way all sensors are prone to failure at some point there is no hard and fast rule as to the milage they should achieve I had to replace my oxygen sensor at 80k Audi recommend changing them at 110k but what it all boils down to is the question of how long is a piece of string. Steve.
  15. Hi Audi recommend draining the system every two years under normal circumstances/milage, I have never had to purge my system as its a cab and it never stays in the tank for longer than 9k so it gets 17 litres about every three months. I f it stays in the tank for to long it will crystallise and cause problems. Steve.
  16. Try Octane booster it definitely works. Steve.
  17. Hi I think you have answered your own question, revs are to low, might well be worth checking the hydro bushes on the engine mounts they are prone to failure around 100k. Steve.
  18. Don't worry about a lack of CO2 Boris and Extinction Rebellion exhale more than enough to keep the trees happy, no I would worry more about the methane levels rising from all the brown stuff they spout. Steve.
  19. Hi the trade off was for the escalating emissions targets, the loose engines as termed were produced as a looser fitting piston does not create as much friction as the conventional tight bore, less friction creates less emissions as it reduces the heat inside the bores thus cutting back on C02, every engineering principle for engines is that they run better when very hot but this has the side effect of raising emissions, Ford almost got round it with the CVH lean burn engine this ran hot but because of the lesser fuel charge it produced less emissions but unfortunately the oil technology at the time let it down. All modern petrol engines burn a little oil its part of the price we pay for driving new off the forecourt and thrashing it a couple of days later which further down the food chain won't help the second hand buyer. Steve.
  20. Highly unlikely that the timing chain would stretch with that milage unlike cam belts chains don't suffer with age related change intervals, as for the oil consumption you will only find out what your chosen vehicles is after you buy it unfortunately, a good indicator would be service history as even the most basic garage knows the importance of low SAPS oil. Steve.
  21. Hi that would suggest that you got away with it last time, but the fact that you have no recognised codings to allow the can gateway to initiate the commands to those functions the BCM thinks they don't exist, hence no codes believe me I did it with a BMW they all work on similar principals and the Audis are all documented on line for doing this, Google it and see.
  22. Hi check your model but I am almost certain yours uses D3S xenon bulbs if you look on eBay the choice is staggering, the standard bulb are normally Phillips or Osram with a rating of 4300k you need to go to 5500-6000k bulbs to get a better light if you go beyond that they are to blue and will get the local plod interested, 6000k is almost daylight, the higher kelvin rating is just the light output the bulbs won't draw anymore wattage or cause faulty lighting issues on the dashboard as the body control module will recognise the new bulbs as long as the wattage remains the same as original. Try HIDs 4u or the best one is Valley lighting they will talk you through the options you have once you know what type of bulbs you have, installation is fairly straight forward if not a little fiddly, access is via the inspection ports in the wheel arch liner, plenty of youtube videos on the subject, LEDs are not that good as they tend to look much brighter but have no visible benefit in light output [Range] also with the higher end units require a can bus ballast plus you have the cooling units on the back which make the bulbs longer so you can't get the bulb cover back on, not a win win for no other benefit than aesthetics.
  23. Hi steve, without doubt yes it works even better if you have no DPF as it only has the cat to deal with, therefore you should get even more noticeable results. Steve.
  24. Hi did you have the BEM recoded to accept the new battery, the foolproof way to change the battery is to have a spare power supply to the jump terminals when changing as this prevents the window and any other ancillary from loosing its codings. Steve.
  25. Hi please check Shytots post which is bang on the money, its not the octane rating that is the problem its weather your fuel pipes can withstand the onslaught of the extra 5% bio ethanol, check the government website or with the main Dealer.
