  1. Hi Kev, nothing in particular to worry about apart from the normal things that wear out bushes, brakes, suspension, though in saying that I am well chuffed with my car as I use it for a cab just hit 105k and apart from changing the clutch [had problems] no major dramas to report, I can only say welcome to the forum and never be afraid to ask a question, I wish you well. Steve.
  2. Hi Ted they just released a new version of OBD 11which I believe covers a lot of these functions and is less than half the price of VCDS, have a look on their website and either call the help line or email them telling them what you want to do they are very helpful. Steve.
  3. Boy oh boy, what a performance just to throw £20 worth of squirt in, I just open the flap and unscrew the cap, simples. Steve.
  4. Hi the water level will rise when hot thats why its known as an expansion tank, was four the noise without a definitive description, who knows. Steve.
  5. What an absolutely hysterical and witty piece of prose, still giggling ten mins after reading, you should be a cab driver I learnt from the best a quick one liner is always a killer. Regards, Steve.
  6. Hi its possible that when the battery was changed and coded that there was a voltage drop which has caused the keyless entry settings to go into a default setting, this can be cured using VCDS and going into the body control functions and extending the duration times for keyless entry. Steve.
  7. Hi go buy a tin of aggressive DPF cleaner, stick it in the tank and go give it a run as Shytot suggested, Euros do a good one in an orange and black tin I have used that a couple of times and it works. Steve.
  8. Hi this is what I found hope this helps
  9. Hi the last bit CNHC is your engine code, will look uptake part no and diagram for your EGR. Steve.
  10. Hi yes it is second from the main, as I say the easiest way to chase it is from the ribbed EGR pipe to where it joins the EGR, you just have to move the pipe work around until you can see it, if you can send me your VIN I will see if I can poach a diagram of it on my parts system and then post it here. Steve.
  11. Hi ,what horsepower is your car, the engine in my 16 plate looks exactly the same and mine is a CNHA unit but I think they changed the letter coding according to the horsepower, anyway think you will find the EGR on the back of the large alloy inlet manifold opposite the MAP sensor on its own bracket in the second picture, the throttle body and EGR are right next to each other, the EGR is the one with the ribbed stainless steel pipe running into it. Steve.
  12. Hi the reason you could not adapt the throttle body was that the ECU already had the values for that body, with regard to diesels not having a throttle I would beg to differ it works exactly the same as a petrol driven car the wiring plug on the side transmits the voltage to the throttle body from the pedal when you push it down so it knows how far to open the butterfly to acellarate or de acellarate, wherever you got this information is very wrong, glad you got it sorted in the end and tell the wife, see you can get the answers from here and save a few bob on labour. Steve.
  13. Hi could be drop links or ARB bushes. Steve.
  14. Hi the milage rules out burning of oil, have you got a dipstick or one of those stupid oil level sensors on the MMI, if its the oil sensor playing up they are garbage mine was telling me my car was overfilled after I serviced it but despite removing a litre of oil it still said overfull so I knew it was screwed and had to replace it. The only other thing I can think of with the water situation is the filler cap may have degraded and need replacing on the expansion tank, these are vented but when old won't hold the pressure, low cost item so worth a punt, most leaks give themselves away as the anti freeze stains the leak. Steve.
  15. Hi possibly the fan control module or the relay, I wouldn't recommend disconnecting the fan as overheating is a distinct possibility. Steve.
  16. Hi the water loss sounds like its a developing weep from somewhere, it might be worth having a look around the water pump, the oil usage depending on the milage might be its burning a bit, my A6 does it now she has reached over 100k it all depends what oil you are using mine does it less when I use Quantum 504/507. steve.
  17. Hi possibly the BEM module gone up the wall its a fairly simple task but I believe a new one will need re coding, have you had your car scanned for faults?. Steve.
  18. Hi the throttle valve is the anti shudder valve by another name, sounds like you have cracked it but I still have reservations as the EGR will not be open when the car is started until the engine reaches operating temperature then when driving slowly through town it only pulses open just a smidgen to cut the emissions, when under hard acceleration it closes completely as the engine needs all the clean air it can get and it definitely shuts its valve when the engine is stopped, I can see the logic of having it deleted but the biggest villain of all the black tar is the PCV valve that allows water and engine vapour into the fresh air coming into the ASV, thats why most of the EGR deletes I have seen run a catch tank between the PCV and the charge pipe going to the compression side of the Turbo. Steve,
  19. Hi personally I would leave it and see what occurs, otherwise you may well spend a fortune on retrofitting parts for no reason, maybe best if you ask whoever did the DPF core removal if what is happening to you is normal, I know for a fact that some of the drivers on my circuit had their DPF cores removed and experienced a droning inside the car afterwards allied to a louder exhaust note but as it turned out it was something they just had to live with and did not affect the life of the cars engine, as for Turbine failure the jury is still out on that one. Steve.
  20. Hi you didn't mention the DPF being filleted before, I would hazard a guess that your particular problem is a lack of back pressure allowing the compressor vanes to massively over run, I have seen this before down at Essex Turbos where they had built a Turbo for an RS Focus albeit petrol, the completely de restricted exhaust allied to the Mountune modifications, increased power band and horse power with added torque was causing massive overrun and the compressor vanes were breaking off, this explains the phenomenon you are experiencing as you no longer have the back pressure to slow the vanes down.
  21. Hi the only difference between the S-Line and the Sport is the springs on the S-Line are shorter and stiffer except in the case of my daughters Q3 S-Line where the spring and shocks are the same as the standard Q3 its just the interior and badging on the outside are different, the shock absorbers nowadays are designed to operate with standard and factory lowered suspension, its all smoke and mirrors. Steve.
  22. The code you have is for an air intake leak behind the MAF sensor so the the engine is getting unmeasured air into it, this would cause the DPF to start blocking as the ECU will start an overfueling strategy to cope with the extra air but once the leak is cured a good forced regeneration should sort that out. Steve.
  23. Hi have the car read for codes that will tell you most of what you need to know, the smoke is with out doubt a bad injector that has lost its spray pattern, the overboots is caused by the MAP sensor not correlating the information from the MAF, best practise is change them both, the leak sounds as if its between the lift pump and the high pressure pump, some codes would be nice. Steve.
  24. Hi Ahmed if they changed the water pump there is no real reason to be playing with oil seals as they are a separate entity to the cooling system, they changed the seal free of charge which suggests they knew what they had done, my advice would be to take the car to another garage and get another opinion as you are in for another fan belt, the one in the picture is shot also if the oil ingression has gotten in to the cam belt you are on very thin ice as if the oil degrades the belt the timing will slip, very expensive. Steve.
  25. Hi it won't matter if the EGR is blanked and mapped out, if you removed the thing completely and blanked the feed you wold get an engine light up as although it no longer functions as it should it is almost a placebo effect as on a lot of the deletes that is part of the process of fooling the ECU into thinking its still there and working as it should, easy way to test the remap quality is unplug the valve and see if you get a light up, from experience a complete delete with the unit removed is very expensive and normally reserved for track cars, I watched one being done on a 330 BMW once and it took nearly three hours to do which involved removing the ECU and changing the chips inside. Steve.
