Cheers Greg. Sometimes you just have to have a go. New matrix would make a huge difference. -
Hi Greg i hope it will be ok for you now. water can get in anywhere. It took me years to work out how it was getting in. Its fun trying to fix in summer but a nightmare in winter. Sounds like your making progress with it. 👍

How do i know correct part number for steering rack on Audi
IHK 11 replied to IHK 11's topic in Classic Audi Club
Hi just letting everyone know my steering rack is fixed and my Audi coupe is back on the road. I previously posted about the steering rack failing on my coupe and having difficulty finding a replacement. I got mine refurbished so its got the original part which was made in West Germany so i know its original. Really happy to get it sorted. Car drives absolutely perfect. Just relieved to finally get it back on the road. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice. Heater matrix is the next big job to be done this summer hopefully. Im going to have a go myself after months of research and lots of youtube videos. Its always bothered me not having a good heater when i know how good the heaters on these cars can be. Thanks. -
Hi when water gets in through the boot of a coupe it should run down between either side of the boot seal and then it goes over the back lights under the black trim and drains out either side of the bottom of the rear number plate but sometimes water can get in through the top of the back lights. I had this problem before and the water was getting into the boot and getting under the back seat onto the rear floor. I put silicone on the top of the back lights but it was causing water to stay on top of the lights. I think you need to completely remove the rear lenses and replace the rubber gaskets on the lenses. Water seems to get in by the indicator part of the lenses pretty badly.if you do sort the rear light seals dont assume this is the only way water is getting into the back of your car. I had water leaking into my rear footwell for years and the problem was when it rained water was getting in between the door rubber and the inner plastic trim that goes half over the rubber and half over the carpet. When it rains water is suppose to get in through the door windows and then drain through the bottom of the door outwards but on my car water was getting straight onto the rubber and then going into the car under the carpet. I only had this problem after replacing the door card after replacing a window regulator. What i done to stop the leak was put loctite tape over the door drainage holes but leave a tiny gap on the part of the hole which is on the outer side of the door and water just drains outwards. Not ideal but it stops the car getting wet and you dont see the tape under the door. I replaced door rubbers but they were fine. Good luck.

Hi it sounds to me initially like your metreing head unit is the problem if fuels not getting through. Are you getting a spark? Has the car been stood for a long period of time? Is the fuel pump priming?

Hi i had a window problem with my coupe. The passenger side window opened but wouldnt close and the problem was the master switch on the drivers side which operated both windows. Although my passenger side window switch was in perfect working order the fsulty master switch stopped it working. If you do change the window that isnt working my advice would be to by the complete unit of the motor and frame.you can easily swap the glass over. If you try to change the motor the cables and pulley can be a nightmare.i think you can get an oil temp sensor off ebay or theres a place called autodoc which is pretty good. It will be bolted to the engine somewhere. Good luck.

Hi i know how difficult it is to get parts for these cars. I had serious trouble recently with a steering rack. I think your best bet is German ebay if you can find a way of translating it onto english.they do have a lot of choice on there to be fair. Another idea might be to ask Audi parts sellers on normal ebay if they have it or know anyone else. Good luck.

Hi warning lights sometimes can be something you least expect them to be. Ive had an amber light with an exclamation mark come on a Bmw e46 when my coolant was low with a small crack in my expansion tank. ive also had a red exclamation light come on a mk 4 escort xr3i when my brake pads were low and ive also had a red exclamation light come on a 1993 Audi coupe with a power steering leak. I know what ive just said are very different issues but cars can be strange at times. You know you spoke about having 2 2 pin connectors for fault code reading my 1990 Audi coupe 2.3e 10 valve has a similar 2 x 2 connectors one is black and one is brown i think and there is a vag code reader you can buy. Maybe someone else on the forum knows more about this vag scanner than i do but its not just a case of plugging it in on my car as the ecu doesnt store codes. What you need to do is take the car for a drive and then stall the engine to get a fault code. On the 20 valve version of my car the ecu does store the fault codes. Maybe yours does as well. Im not too sure. I bet someone else on the forum has good knowledge about the vag scanner and how it works. Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

How do i know correct part number for steering rack on Audi

Hi Glenn i didnt remove mine myself. Its at the garage but from what i know it is very tight to remove with the engine still in the car. I think that if you remove the nuts and bolts by the rubber boot on the rack and remove the 2 rods going to the rack from either front wheel once the rack is removed from the steering column where youl need to remove the fascia panel under the steering wheel above the pedals it can be pulled out through the drivers side wheel arch. Youl have to remove the wheel arch lining. Mine is a right hand drive too. I hope it goes smoothly for you. Good luck. -

Hi its annoying trying to get wings and panels. I struggled to get a new rear arch for my coupe. Theres a company in Coleraine in Northern Ireland that i found previously on ebay who might be able to help you. Il send u theyre name and theres also a company called RP parts UK on ebay that might be worth trying. It might be worth messaging them with your car details and they may have something. Good luck. -
Thanks for that. Sounds like somewhere worth checking out. Might be something i change during the summer.

That meet sounds really good. 70 cars is a really good turn out. I hope you find some door rubbers. Just keep looking and im sure there will soon be some on there.

Hi i managed to get a passenger side door rubber for my coupe on ebay a couple of years ago.it wasnt listed but when i went through audi parts sellers other items it was on there. It came from Spain and was in very good condition. Probably because it was from a warmer climate. I think i paid around £30 for it. I tried putting thin plastic tubing under the seals before and it did help. When i put the rubber in at first i started getting a bit of wind noise when i passed 30mph and thought id fitted it wrong but my door had actually dropped overtime. Good luck.

Hi everyone i just wondered what people on the forum thought were the best ht leads for a Audi coupe 2.3e. Ive only changed them once since ive owned the car as they looked really worn and the car wouldnt rev past 5000 rpm. I bought some unknown branded ones from euro car parts which have been ok to be fair. I just wondered if anyone had tried any which they thought were really good or improved the performance. Thanks.

Hi everyone ive got a 1990 Audi coupe 2.3e B3 and the cars in the garage at the moment getting a new steering rack fitted but ive bought the wrong one and now my cars in the garage in bits. Ive been trying for ages to get the right steering rack for my Audi but havent been able to see the part number when it was on the car. I phoned Audi up gave them my reg and they told me the part number is 896422065B so i tried to get one but couldnt get one anywhere. I then read that Audi stopped making this part in 2004 but replaced it with 896422065BX which fits the same so i ordered one and took it to the garage but it doesnt fit. The place for the power steering hoses is different. Ive looked at the original rack now its off the car and the part has various numbers on it but none of them seem to show any match. Does anyone know if ny of these numbers is the one i need or know where the correct one is located? Any help would be really appreciated. I feel bad as the cars in the garage on a ramp which is much needed. Thanks from Ian.

Why does my gearstick grind when i select 2nd gear
IHK 11 replied to IHK 11's topic in Audi A4 (B6) Forum

Why does my gearstick grind when i select 2nd gear
IHK 11 replied to IHK 11's topic in Audi A4 (B6) Forum
It hasnt gone into the garage yet. Just waiting to get my coupe back from there. What i have noticed tho is if you go up into 2nd at about 5 mph or less it doesnt grind and if i go down into 2nd gear from 3rd when ive almost stopped it doesnt do it. Its tricky and you really have to concentrate when driving it. -
Would my Audi coupe benefit from iridium spark plugs
IHK 11 replied to IHK 11's topic in Classic Audi Club
I think theyre quite popular in America. -
Hi a few months ago i noticed that the milometre on my Audi coupe had stopped working. I removed the instrument cluster and totally took it appart and everything seemed in tact. I even removed the milometre which is inside a clear casing and there were wires inside that all looked in tact. The black plastic button which you press to reset the 3 digit last mileage seemed fine. I thought it might of been sticking at first but all was good and the plastic cog was in place as it should be so ive sort of ruled out the instrument cluster but would only rule it out after trying another one in the car. At the moment im waiting for the car to go in the garage next Monday to have the steering rack replaced. Whilst looking around the engine bay i noticed thst power steering fluid that leaked from the rack was all over the speed sensor by the gearbox and i know how corrossive power steering fluid can be so thought that maybe that had damaged the speed sensor which doesnt look great anyway. From what ive seen i think the speed sensor records the speedometre which works fine as it should but i wonder if it could be effecting the milometre. The rev counter works fine too.dont know if its relevant. Any help or opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for replying. It sounds like Denso are really good. Its always something i thought about trying. Theres only one way to find out. Maybe il try some Denso iridium plugs just to see. Thanks. -
Hi everyone im interested to know what people think about iridium spark plugs? My car is a 1990 Audi coupe 2.3e 5 cylinder 10 valve and currently has Bosch super 4 spark plugs which ive had no problems with and i previously had ngk spark plugs which ive had no problems with. Ive been reading a lot about iridium plugs and hear that denso iridium plugs are very good such as starting older cars and being better on petrol and producing more power. When someone is trying to sell a product its obviously going to say how good it is but i just wondered if anyone else had used them and what they thought. Really interested to know whether they were good or bad? Thanks.
