It is hard to part company with a car youve had for so long. Ive had cars half the age of my Audi which were full of rust. Theyre a quality car and very well made. Good luck with it.
-
No problem.
-
I agree with you it definitely helps with performance. The engine just sounds and feels smoother with e5 in it. Like you say it is peace of mind. Youd always be thinking and worrying what if on E10.
-
I forgot to say i imagine it would be more difficult replacing the dash bulbs on a 97 coupe than my 1990 as its probably got an airbag. Good luck.

Its worth doing. I like the way it looks. You do have to be careful tho taking bulbs out of the cluster too often. They tend to become a bit loose. The best fitting bulb ive had for the cluster is the 1.5 watt bulbs with a orange plastic base that are used on the Audi s2. The plastic base is a bit more flat creating a tighter fit.this is the standard dash bulb 1.2 wattthis is the uprated 2 watt bulbthis is the 1.5 watt bulb the same as the Audi s2. This is the best fit of them all as the base is shorter. these were the bright led reverse light bulbs i was talking about. If you did get them make sure theyre canbus error.

Hi Ade B i agree with Steve Q and Turlough. I think you would regret selling it. I sold a Audi coupe that i was having a few problems with about 15 years ago to a mechanic who fixed it all and i remember seeing it pass about 2 years later on a really nice summers day all polished and looking good and i felt sick. I just wanted that car. I think your Audi is special seeing as your the only owner. It would be ideal if someone who knows the car and appreciates it as much as you do could buy it off you. If i were you i would put it in a classic car auction with a reserve of the lowest price youd be willing to sell for and if it doesnt meet that reserve then dont sell it. Theres an auction company called Hampson auctions who have classic car auctions about 4 or 5 times a year. You pay nothing to sell your car but the buyer pays 12.5% of the sale price on top. Theyre a family run business and have auctions in Holywell, Ellesmere port and Oulton park race circuit in Cheshire. I think the most popular one would be the Oulton park race circuit auction in August. There will be racing events at the circuit on that day and a lot of people and potential buyers. Its a great day out and there will be lots of nice cars there. I went there last August and there was a lovely 2.6 v6 audi coupe there which had just had a lot spent on it new interior limited edition wheels etc... and i didnt register to bid as i thought it would of sold for around £5000 and to everybodys surprise it sold for around £2250. If id of registered theres a good chance id of bought it. The paintwork was immaculate. Good luck if you sell your car but please dont rush into it.

Hi Turlough and vin petrol the reverse light bulbs which i mentioned which are canbus error leds although probably not legal the light is really good on them. Another thing that might be worth checking is inside the lens of the reverse light as this can get dirty and go a bit green. I used a little bottle brush and some warm water in there after removing the panel with the bulbs in. The bulb holder panel can get rusty as well. My lights wernt very bright before so i took the bulbs out of this panel and cleaned inside every bulb holder and removed the connectors and cleaned under them as well with white vinegar and a scouring pad. It made a difference. If you can find any earths around the back lights id clean them too. Ive never tried it but id imagine if you could get canbus error bulbs for the tail lights which i do know you can buy theyd look good. Another good tip if anyones interested. I tinted my indicators on the rear lights red the same colour as the rest of the lights and it looked good until when i indicated the indicators lit up red but if you put green indicator bulbs in there they will light up orange. If your interested in having brighter dash bulbs i wouldnt try leds. I put leds in mine and some parts of the cluster were bright and some were dark. It was very patchy. The standard dash bulbs are t5/286 clear halogen bulbs which are 12v and 1.2 watts each. I upgraded mine to the same bulbs but instead of a 1.2 watt i put 2 watt bulbs in and the dadh was much brighter and the higher wattage bulbs didnt cause any electrical problems at all. The standard cluster in the coupe lights up orange but i fancied having mine light up red like the early Audi A4s so i painted each bulb with red nail polish before fitting and it looks quite good. Maybe not to everyones taste but its ok. I also painted the rear fog light switch bulb red as well so i know the red ones the rear and the yellow ones the front. this is what the tinted indicators look like. My reverse light lenses arent the best. This is the dash with the 2 watt bulbs painted red. I also done the auxilary gauges the same.

Hi ive seen some reverse light bulbs that had a lot of little leds in a circle which were pretty bright but apparently theyre illegal. They were called canbus error bulbs which is suppose to eliminate any electrical problems but id ask a proffessional for advice first if i were you. My headlights on my 1990 Audi coupe B3 were pretty awful and i thought about led bulbs or hid kits but the main problem is my headlamps are frosted not totally clear and also reflector headlights not projector headlights which would dazzle other cars if i put leds or hids in. So i looked for an alternative which was legal. I first put a pair of philipps racing vision 150% brighter h4 halogen bulbs in which were pretty ok to be fair but then i changed them to philipps racing vision 200% brighter and theyre pretty good. Apparently the brighter the bulb the less it will last but the 200%brighter bulbs ive got in now had a life expectancy of one year and ive had them for 3 years and theyre still good. Halfords do some good 200% brighter halogen bulbs and osram do some pretty good ones as well. You see some blue bright lights but from my experience id recommend a white light. As your car is a B4 Coupe you can get a pair of clear headlights which would be better. Theyre rare but do come up on ebay occasionally.

I was lucky to be fair. Thanks.

Just an update. Ive managed to get some E5 and have been told its not a problem at the moment. I found some additives for £12 that would do 4 full tanks of E10 so thats something i would consider if i couldnt get E5 again. The car does run so much better on E5 tho.

Fuel lines are always something thats on the back of my mind. I had one leak about 7 years ago on the Audi and i drove 256 miles before i noticed. Im just glad it was raining that day. I only got sudpicious when i was using more fuel than usual. I always check them now. Im just glad and lucky nothing bad happened.
-
I dont know why but my gut feeling is just stay away from E10 at all costs. Ive checked the government website and its not suitable for my car. I like the sound of the additives tho. Thanks for your replies.
-
Thanks for your reply. Do you think it would be ok to use E10 just until i can get some E5?
-
I just hope i can get some soon. The cars running very low. I should of filled up sooner really. Thsnks.

Hi everyone ive been trying to get E5 petrol for about a week now and every garage ive tried near me are sold out and dont know when they can get more. I live in North Wales and its not really rural where i am.every Esso or Shell garage near me always has it. Ive got a 1990 Audi coupe and a 1992 Escort Rs2000 which i really need petrol for. I havent heard anything from the government or on the news. I am starting to worry tho as this has never happened before. I have other cars which i can use that run on E10 but the 2 that run on E5 are my favourites. Does anyone have any idea whats going on or have heard anything about this? Thanks from Ian!

Its just another option than changing to a different interior.
-
👍
-
They look rare. Nice tho.
-
Cross fingers.
-
Thats true. I just worry how long E5 will be around for.
-
They look good with the red on them. You really got the other wheels looking good. Good job.
-
Thanks. I can definitely make it better. Really pleased with the Autoglym black dye. Great product. I would highly recommend it. The boot carpet was transformed i felt.
