  1. Thanks Steve, that's most helpful
  2. Hi, Yes I know this subject has probably been done to death, but in my experience, searches on forums with thousands of posts can be a bit of a nightmare. Anyway; I'm thinking of moving from my S4 to an RS4 (Avant) and am wondering how important it is for the engine to have already had a clean. I'm looking at cars around the 40-45 thousand mile mark. Any comments at all would be welcome. Cheers, Ian.
  3. I see, thanks for that. Anything else anyone ?
  4. This isn't about which is best but just to satisfy my curiosity. When I bought mine, I bought the first one I saw and I've never had an Audi before, so my model knowledge is very sparse. Taking out of the equation the engine, transmission etc; plus a bit of the brightwork, then is there much difference in trim & spec between an A4 and an S4 ?
  5. I think drilled discs have a "cool/I'm a racer" look about them (which I've done myself in the past 😱) but I don't really think there is any need for them day to day on the road. I've never noticed any noise issue, but I agree that they tend to go thru' the pads quicker. All IMHO of course. Ian.
  6. 😂😂😂
  7. Steve, as I'd never heard of this procedure I was looking for some guidance; and your comprehensive answer is the sort of of reply I was hoping for. Many thanks. Ian.
  8. Thanks Steve.
  9. Well, there's been 36 views which is an opportunity for 36 people to say - I've never heard of it. That would have at least been some sort of feedback 🙁
  10. Someone suggested this method to me the other day as a way of reducing/removing carbon deposits around the valve seats. Remove the air filter. Warm up your engine to normal temp. Have someone rev the engine to about 1000rpm. Put a short atomised squirt of WARM water direct into the intake. This cleans out the sh*t - or so he assures me. Now I've never heard of this, but this guy is a Chief Engineer on a cruise ship, so I reckon he knows a bit or two about engines. Does anybody do this, or ever tried it ? Ian.
  11. The auto-electrician gave it an absolute 100% fault free clean bill of health 🙂. He commented that it was very unusual for that to be the case on a ten year old car ! The local garage man recommends a fuel additive to give the injectors a clean (plus give it some high revs) as the next step. So we'll do that and see what happens now ..............
  12. The battery tested out OK, so it's into the auto electrician's tomorrow.
  13. Thanks Gareth. It doesn't get used every day, but I did think I did enough for charging purposes; however, I'm doing a good 200 mile run this week, so I'll hold off any testing till after that. Ian.
  14. Thanks Steve. It's that many years since I had a battery problem that the thought of it never crossed my mind.🙄 That'll be my first port of call. Cheers, Ian.
  15. I've noticed that slowly, over perhaps six months, the car stakes a little longer to start each time. It's crept up from instant to about two seconds to fire up. Two seconds doesn't sound like a lot but there's something wrong somewhere. When it fires up it then runs 100%. It's only done 35000 miles. Any ideas ?
