  1. Hi Oly I had this on my A6. If you scroll on to page 2 you will find what happened. Tony
  2. Hi Louise. Had a look at my Avant. Stephen is quite right as you close the lid, the plunger spirals in locking the flap. Perhaps as he has said it may be stuck in the down position. Tony
  3. Hi Louise. I think all fuel caps should lock by law some way or another. In all the years I have had my Avant I have never tried to open it other than at a fuel station. I am going to have to try now. Will get back to you. Tony
  4. The "smoke" looks very white to me. Could this possibly be a head gasket? could try a compression test.
  5. Hi Just returned from my trip. It is very difficult now to follow the A30 as it has been swallowed up by other through roads, such as the A36 at Salisbury. Apart from that, it was closed at Chard with a detour through some very narrow lanes and farm yards. Went to Haynes Sparkford Museum on the way back, very good and interesting. Very pleased with the A6's performance. 46.2mpg on the way there, coming back cruise control on set at 75 mph returned 49.5mpg. Probably cheaper than an electric car. Tony
  6. I am playing golf down in Somerset next week. I intend to take the scenic route. When I was a little lad, my parents had friends in Somerset and I always remember the arguments between my Dad and them regarding the A30 and the A303. My Dad was always for the A30. I am going to try to follow that route. Remembering the Morris 8 that a valve broke on and went through the piston, the exhaust bracket the broke on the Wolseley. Stopping for lunch in various pubs etc. It's going to take all day. After a couple of days of golf I am returning on the A303 stopping at Sparkford to go to The Haynes Motor Museum. It might not seem a big trip these days but it will be interesting to try to remember what it was like back in the 50's-60's, looking through the windscreen of my air conditioned A6. Tony
  7. Yes, I have heard that the clips on the tail gate trim are very ferocious Tony
  8. Hi Steve This is exactly what a car techy told me recently. Tony
  9. Took the car in. No fault codes, not done it since, rear wash wipe behaving itself, no charge. A glitch in the system perhaps.
  10. Ni A Had mine replaced a few months ago. Cam Belt and Water Pump. It does make sense if you are that deep into the engine and the labour involved. (£915 at Audi) How many miles has the car done? Tony
  11. Hi Greg I paid around £500, but I see on their site that they are charging £600 now. Eveything is going up!! Tony
  12. The trouble is Gareth because I live in the supposedly affluent area of Kent our Indies are nearly the same price as Main Dealers. When I had the cam belt and water pump done the Audi price was £915 and our local guys were £850, so I might as well go to Audi. Also I get a nice valet, MOT for life and the coffee is not bad. Apart from that the receptionist has a figure you would die for. I have booked the car in for Wednesday next week and I will let you know the out come. Tony
  13. Hi Gareth Just looked at the tailgate, looks nice and dry, but unless you strip down the roof lining I can't actually see anything. The wiper starts with the column switch off, so in theory that circuit should not be live. So any break would have the opposite effect of the wiper not working. We have now got some nice blue sky and no rain, I'll see if it behaves itself today. If not I will have to take out a second mortgage and send it in to Audi for surgery. Tony
  14. Hi My rear wiper has taken on a whole new life of it's own. Comes on when it wants to. Sometimes just a few wipes, but other times runs continuously for a few minutes. Strangely enough it only does it when it is wet. Not read anything regarding a moisture sensor in the rear window, but who knows? Tony
  15. Could be valve guide seals weeping a bit overnight. Try lifting your foot off the accelerator letting the wheels drive the car on over run, then accelerate fairly briskly if they is blue smoke it could be the valve guides.
  16. If I keep my foot off the brake pedal, press start, put seat belt on, Then press brake pedal , press start again it all comes alive straight away. One thing though, my headlight washers deploy if it has been standing out in the freezing weather.
  17. No problem. Keep your fingers out of the way as they snap on quite tight.
  18. Hi Mike I replaced all the badges on my Avant Black Edition to black. The front badge is held on by plastic clips. Start at the bottom with a thin screwdriver or a trim kit and work your way round. It pings off eventually. Accurately measure it as they vary from year to year. The side and rear badges fishing line and evostick remover to clean up with. I bought all the badges from Ebay for around £25. Tony
  19. Hi Very sadly my wife has passed away. I have a mobility scooter hoist in my Avant that is unfortunately no longer required, if anybody is interested. I also have the scooter. Tony
  20. Hi Just an update, with more info. I was Sales Manager for an Italian Porcelain wall and floor tile manufacturer and distributor. I travelled extensively mainly UK but also Europe and Brazil. Took redundancy in 2000 didn't work for a couple of years. Golf handicap come down nicely. Got bored, got a job delivering and collecting new cars for a multi- franchise company. Again, travelled the UK. Now retired, playing golf again regularly. Tony
  21. Joking aside. These body work noises are so annoying. My front suspension on my A6 creaks a bit. Been in at Audi no problems. Still cost me £160 for an inspection. Tony
  22. Hi Munir I get a creaking noise every time I go upstairs. I think it is probably my knees. Tony
  23. Hi Derek. I am concerned for you and your car. As the car is more than 5 years old and has done 100k miles the cam belt is well over due. If it did break or shred it can cause catastrophic damage to the engine. The £600 to £1000 pounds to replace it is much cheaper than the £6000 to replace the engine.
