  1. Thanks, I know this hence my post.
  2. Thanks, I'll add that onto my growing to do list!
  3. I was looking at my service history which is all main dealer AUDI and noticed the multitronic unit was replaced almost at new. Not sure if that's a good or bad sign! lol Later on, the physical paperwork I've got for the service at 36k miles (AUDI Aberdeen) shows no mention of the DSG fluid being changed only a BFC which I'm assuming is Brake Fluid Change. The next service is at AUDI in Dundee (same group though) with a mileage of 48k miles but I don't have any physical paperwork for this one. It does say that a recall 24DP -Fuel Rails was done but no mention of the DSG fluid. I've just rang them up and she has nothing on the system indicating that this fluid was done. I would have thought it mandatory at a main dealer to follow the service schedule, but my gut and past experiences with main dealers tells me that it probably wasn't done. Does anyone reckon it was actually done because the transmission is smooth, a lot smoother than my previous ZF8 transmission but you would think if they note a brake fluid change then surely they would note a transmission fluid change!? I suppose I should have asked what the charge was which may have revealed it, but I'm going to change the fluid in a few weeks anyway including the internal and external filter but it's a little worrying as I'm now at 60k miles.
  4. Just to follow up on the noise from my wheels it is a little like the noise when free wheeling on a bycycle. It sounds the same on both sides as well.
  5. Interesting, wet performance never crossed my mind, now I have something to think about. Thanks. The noise is difficult to describe, but I'm sure it's the drilled discs. I'll keep my eye on it though.
  6. Apologies if this has been done to death, but I had a search and nothing recent stood out and I guess opinions can change over time. I've got drilled vented discs on the front and regular vented on the rear and I think the drilled discs are what's causing a quiet but noticeable noise when driving with the window down at low speeds. Are drilled/slotted discs really worth it for public road driving? I'm sure I read or watched a test which showed no improvement in brake performance until you reached heat fade territory where they would then excel, but I probably never get them hot enough to worry about this. I'm sure I read that they will eat through pads faster - does that not imply they work better from the offset though and there's also the noise they make all the time when driving at slower speeds.
  7. Could be worth giving the exhaust a little wiggle as well. Sometimes I've found a knocking can even be inside the boot such as the spare wheel not being clamped down properly and the noise travels. Brakes might be worth a quick glance, maybe a retaining clip has come off or something.
  8. I had this issue with my previous car (common problem with Jaguar) and it would be at similar speeds and at its worst when lightly pressing the brakes. If I braked hard it wouldn't judder though. I stripped the brakes down and found that the caliper slide pins were sticking from a combination of corrosion in the holes and also some swelling of the rubber slide pin boots, possibly from someone in the past using copper grease instead of something like Ceratec lube. I used my Dremel to clean up the corrosion in the holes (and also the rest of the brakes) and also some black gunk off the slide pins themselves. I also replaced the slide pin boots. This cured it for me but a year later the judder returned but only slightly. Another possibility could be the mating face between the discs and hub not being 100% aligned. It could be worth inspecting for any debris, corrosion etc and if necessary cleaning it up. You could also measure all around your brake discs to check for irregularities. I just bought one of those digital brake disc caliper gauges for less than a tenner. I'll link underneath to the Amazon listing if that's allowed? You might have to do the pound coin trick though if your discs have a lip. Brake Disc Caliper Gauge Amazon link
  9. Thanks all. I like to replace all fluids just so I know it's been done. A belt and braces type thing, especially with the transmission fluid. I don't really trust main dealers (or main dealer service history), so a good indy is always my preference when it comes to stuff I can't do myself. I'm at 60k miles so I suspect some suspension wear will pop up soon. I've scanned all the modules with my Autel and there were some codes coming up, so I cleared them and so far they haven't returned, so hopefully just old codes. So far I'm very happy with the car, it's a difference beast compared to the XF but already I tell it's put together better.
  10. Hi, I recently sold my Jaguar XF and I'm now brand new to Audi having never owned or driven one before. I managed to find a nice S4 B8.5 Avant and now the usual new (used) car task of doing all the fluids begins, starting with the engine oil and DSG fluid and later I'll do the diffs and brake fluid when the brakes need doing. Would anyone be able to recommend on the best places to buy parts and fluids for the S4? The usual suspects are ECP and Opie Oils but I'm wondering if there's anywhere which is more specific for Audi stuff? Also, I've looked everywhere but can't find a service schedule for the B8.5, is there one available online somewhere which someone could point me to as it would be greatly appreciated? It's nice no longer having that moment of fear every time you start the car and I'm looking forward to many happy miles and smiles with the S4! Thanks Graham
