  1. Hi Stephen, the pre-climate control is going to be good for you 🙂. Defrost the car whilst you're still having a coffee inside. I believe this also pre-heats all the motor (i think) and battery, so worth doing if you're looking for better EV range. This comes direct from the cable when plugged in (don't know if scheduled charge or immediate charge makes a difference). No problem with driving the car without pre-heating the battery, etc. Just like driving a normal ICE car from cold, it just won't be efficient until everything is up to temperature. With using the sat nav on the MMI, i personally find it a pain. I've ended up at a destination with no battery and no where to charge. And on my return home, it is just the ICE which isn't so efficient on its own. Generally on long journeys i stick it in Hybrid mode and use android auto with google maps & waze (in the background). My old A4 2.0 tdi (2017) was much better on economy 50-60mpg, but more fun with this Q5, and great around traffic when you have battery capacity. I'm off snowboarding in March, so you've really got me in the mood 😄
  2. PS, i hate the low EV range, but absolutely love the car.
  3. Just to add "One question. On a long journey in 'intelligent' mode it will take the battery to zero. Is this how it is meant to work?" If you set a route in the AUDI MMI (not in android auto / carplay), the hybrid will try to use ALL the battery by the end of your journey. Whether it be a 30 miles journey or 200 miles, it will try to use it 'wisely' and predictively.
  4. Hi Ray and Stephen, Which TFSIe do you have? I have the 2020 55 Competition. Things i know affect battery. Fully charged, if you put the heating on 21+ degrees, your range is reduced because heating the car uses alot of power, especially with the cold weather around lately. I keep mine about 19C, and that is okay for me. I'm getting about 18 miles on EV on the motorways (70+ mph, where allowed 😉 ). But i get about 22-23 on A roads (55-60mph). I've even had it as high as 25 on A roads in warmer weather doing about 50mph (not my fault for going slow). I've also read that every time you start the car from 'cold' the battery has to preheat in cold weather. Again, your range will be reduced. So if you do 8 miles to the shops, stop for 1 hour, and 8 miles back home, the battery would have warmed up twice if that makes sense. I don't think the 2020 Q5's ever did 30 miles on EV. I think maybe the A3 etron can do this as it is a lighter car and no quattro? Dealer definitely lied on this i think. Not sure the 2022 Q5's can achieve this either, but maybe wrong. I also think your app is out of date? Have you checked the MMI to check the timer is definitely correct? The app and MMI should sync up. When you plug in the type 2, does the scheduled charge button light up, and the main indicator flash green? If so, you should be good to go. No need to charge to 80% and stop, that is crazy. Like all modern batteries and software, the battery is automatically software limited on the top and bottom end. You'll see in manuals that your battery capacity is around 17KWH, but have you noticed you can only charge up from 0-100% about 12-13KWH? The extra capacity is held at the top and bottom range of the battery so you don't 'kill' the battery. This is the same with mobile phones too. Hope that helps.
  5. I know it is additional cost, but could you buy a 'cheap' spare (one with less functions) from somewhere and have it coded to your car?
  6. Thanks Steve Q. I think this is going to be a long discussion for another day. I was just driving the other day on full electric on an A road doing 45-50mph behind a lorry and a car. When the coast was clear, i hit the throttle, ICE kicked in and gave me that extra oomph. So in this case, the ICE was not used overnight, not warmed up, and fluids not circulating until the ICE kicked in semi hard. I'm sure it will be okay, but just new with PHEV's. Thanks,
  7. Hi, My Q5 55 2020 has the tech pack, which includes the in-built sim. I find that the in-built sim is rubbish (to say nicely). I'm trying to update the maps, but it is so slow, and times-out. Is there any way to link my MMI to my home wifi? Thank you in advance for your help, Joe
  8. Hi Shytot, Thanks for your reply. As my Samsung Galaxy phone has 1 bluetooth transmitter/receiver, how does it connect to the MMI and also AAwireless together? I'm just worried i'd lose one function over the other. Where did you get the AAwireless? I found one on ebay, but it is £125. Is that expensive? Do you know of any other good options? Thanks
  9. Hi All, My 2020 Q5 55 has wired Android Auto. Has anyone used a wired Android Auto to wireless device? I've seen a device called AAwireless which seems to do the job, but it connects via bluetooth. Of course my phone is connected by bluetooth direct to the MMI for phone call and text messages, so not really ideal. Any suggestions or other devices on the market that may connect using WIFI instead of bluetooth? Thanks in advance for any advice. Cheers, Joe
  10. Hi All, Newbie here. I don't generally accelerate hard when the ICE is cold (not up to temperature above 50 - 60C for example). But i'm worried about running the ICE hard when not up to temperature. I was driving in hybrid mode on the motorway and the ICE was up to nice operating temperature. Then there was slow moving traffic (accident), and the electric motor kicked in, and the ICE temperature started to cool. After about 45 minutes, I cleared the traffic and the ICE temperature was below 50C. I accelerated hard'ish to get up to speed. I know these are modern engines, but anyone see any issues with accelerating hard when the engine is 'cold'? As the ICE is generally rarely used. Thanks in advance for your views. Joe
