  1. Thanks for the reply Steve. To close off this thread. I eventually figured out the issue - long story short you need to remove the manifold and the air filter housing, or as I did , mostly remove it and squeeze your hand/arm in underneath. After many hours and frustration I can confirm that while it is possible to get a new dipstick tube loosely in place from under the car, I found it impossible to securely push it into place and to also fit the top rubber bung that sits on top of the tube and under the inlet manifold. As a side note specific to this car - I eventually worked out why I could not see the lower metal tube for the dipstick from the top of the engine, someone had previously inserted a bung into the tube so that debris could not get it. While this was sort of positive news I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t just put a new tube on while there were in there, especially considering it was about £8… Happily, after all of the above the oil level was absolutely fine.
  2. Good evening, I’m having trouble replacing the funnel the dipstick goes in on my Audi A3 and I am hoping for my sanity that someone can help. The A3 is a 2004 (on a 54 plate in the UK) 2.0 FSI auto (150). Basically, I have just been gifted the car from a family member and when I went to check the oil, the dip stick was just floating about. After a frankly ridiculous length of time trying to get it to locate in something I came to the conclusion whatever tube is required, ain’t there. Flash forward and I have now acquired a new (bright orange, so not easy to miss) tube - part number 06F-103-663-J. However, I cannot for the life of me work out where it goes. I’ve tried looking from the top and underneath of the car and there are zero clues as to where it goes. I have a feeling that I need to take the inlet manifold off as that is what the dip stick goes through but I’m struggling to make any headway with that. I thought Google/YouTube would save me but it appears that every other engine/gearbox combo for the A3 has a video on it or a guide on how to remove the inlet manifold or replace the dipstick tube but this beauty seems to come up dry! As such any help would be much appreciated. Here is a link to what I think is an identical engine on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194463193778?gbraid=0AAAAAC9EKSfUykBAoruTDfeKgY3L4TTEw&var=0&&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&siteid=3&campid=5338743057&customid=jkp_EAIaIQobChMIjcmS6s-6-gIVJe_tCh2qTgGIEAQYDCABEgIdVPD_BwE&toolid=10001&mkevt=1&gbraid=0AAAAAC9EKSfUykBAoruTDfeKgY3L4TTEw&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjcmS6s-6-gIVJe_tCh2qTgGIEAQYDCABEgIdVPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
