  1. I'm toying with the idea of de-chroming my car. It's just a matter of personal taste but I think black trim would work really well with the aquamarine blue and give the car a sleeker and more modern look. I've found suitable replacements for the front grills but nothing for the window/door trims, does anybody know of a supplier? I've already tried ebay. Failing that does anyone know how well the existing trim takes paint?
  2. I agree with Steve, it sounds like it should be a relatively straightforward problem to diagnose and fix for a decent mechanic. Not necessarily cheap but definitely run of the mill I would've thought.

  4. Reading this reminds me of a girl I knew nearly 40 years ago who stuck a piece of chewing gum over her oil light because it was annoying her being on all the time. That ended well too...
  5. Just doing a bit of lateral thinking here, wouldn't it be easier to get a portable 12V powerpack? It would free you up from having to stay near the car too. And I've spent many a cold night staring down a telescope in the middle of nowhere too mate, my family think I'm mad!
  6. Bit of information for anyone with electrical issues that seem to be most likely down to broken wires in the A pillar loom. The symptoms I had (all on the passenger side) were No door open displayed on the dashboard No footwell lights No puddle lights No door edge red light Door lock button not working with central locking Power windows and speakers were working fine. Everything was pointing to broken wires in the A pillar loom but after a lot of checking visually and with a multimeter everything seemed to be fine on that front. Spent a few hours searching the internet and found a lot of topics suggesting the problem was with the door closed sensor on the lock actuator. Installed a new one this morning and all the problems are cured, worth a try if anyone's having similar problems and has ruled out any other issues. By the way, I did see a few guides on repairing the existing lock but it seems like a fair bit of faffing around for something that isn't guaranteed to work. My new actuator came in at £23 delivered from EBay and works perfectly so that seems the best option to me.
  7. Did all my checking and testing and not a broken wire to be found. After a lot of internet searching it's looking like a faulty NS front (possibly rear too) passenger door actuator, seems like a door close sensor issue. I have a new one arriving for the front tomorrow and as I'm on nights now for a couple of shifts I may be able to fit it in the afternoon. As ever I'll let you know how I get on, hope it's not getting boring!
  8. I've just replaced the CCM in my A6 and this is the best video I've found for reprogramming the key fobs if you're fortunate enough to have two of them. Very clear instructions and worked first time for both of my key fobs with no messing around. The reprogramming information starts at 9:00 but the rest of the video may be useful to anybody that needs to repair their key fob. https://youtu.be/RyNpeZUJtsc
  9. Just thought I'd share this link for replacing the window regulator in an A6 C5 as it's the most helpful one I've found. Very clear instructions and tells you which Torx bits and rivets you'll need. The whole process took me about two hours start to finish and I was taking my time to ensure everything was correct. Hope this helps anyone contemplating the same repair. How To: Replacing AUDI C5 RS6 Window Regulator!
  10. Window regulator done now. I'll start a new thread and attach a link to the best YouTube video I found, very clear instructions and tells you what Torx bits and rivet sizes you need. I'll do likewise for the key reprogramming too, worked first time for me and again, very clear instructions. Just the broken wires in the passenger A pillar loom to sort now which I've got to admit I'm really not looking forward to.
  11. Changed The CCM this afternoon and reprogrammed both key fobs... winner winner chicken dinner! Feeling quite pleased with myself. I'd already sorted the water ingress so that should be fine now, the old CCM definitely didn't look happy sat in it's puddle. Two more jobs to take care of, broken wires in the passenger A pillar loom, and driver's window regulator. Off work until Sunday so I'm hoping for a couple of dry days.
  12. Quick question Steve, I noticed on another thread you were talking about relocating the CCM to the glovebox. Did you ever get around to it and do you know if it's a big job? I'm guessing it would involve splicing in longer wiring?
  13. Yes mate, identical. On the same subject is anyone here able to look up parts numbers from the vin number?
  14. I've found a replacement CCM, should be here in 2-3 days. Bit of a bargain too, £65 including delivery. It's supposedly working perfectly but I'll let you know when I've had a chance to fit it.
  15. Yeah mate, that was a whole load of hassle in itself but got there in the end. I did think about that but my car's my daily driver and I need it to get to work. I just want to swap it out for a known and tested good unit in one go. I'll try to salvage my old one when it's out of the car and if I can save it I'll stick it on Ebay once it's serviceable.
