  1. Good Evening All Thanks for your help I am going to pick up my Audi A3 saloon tomorrow .. my 2011 A4 had electric wing mirrors are they electric on an A3 and how do i turn them off / on Sorry to be a pain Thanks for the impending help
  2. Good Afternoon All Further to my posts on the A4 thread and the need for constant oil top up.. I have purchased an A3 from Arnold Clark 2018 with 46K miles on the clock. It is black 😔.. which product is best for keeping it looking "good" I used good old turtle wax for my red car and that did the trick Thanks all
  3. Good Afternoon All The A4 "broke down"| last week and will go to the garage before driving over to we buy any car. It is valeted and looks beautiful ... i am nervous of the questions i will face. Should i consider selling to a breakers yard for breaking it must have parts that people. I dont care anymore but i would like to get a decent price for the sake of my mechanic who has worked hard on it. I will let you know how it goes. I have purchased an A3 which i will discuss on the appropriate thread. Take care
  4. Thanks for that Steve even though the internet says £3,600 i cant imagine they will give me that when they see it even though it looks really good. I just dont want any comeback .. i hope that let the buyer beware principle applies to them
  5. Good Evening Steve I am looking at petrol car and teh first thing my mechanic will do is change the timing belt / chain. Thanks for the advice on the You Tube buyers guides and i have watched some of these. Looking at what is available at the moment i cant decide whether to purchase A car for £10k with approx 46K mileage or A car for £15k with approx 28k mileage Any advice please I cant buy a car with too high a mileage after when my current 2011 vehicle only has 58K on it. Thanks for your time
  6. Good Afternoon All I have a "thread" about my 2011 A4 with an oil burning problem I would like an A3 saloon with a budget of £13K to £15K This is a big sum to pay on a car i know little about could anyone let me know what significant problems i could have with this model. The cars that i am looking at are from the years 2015 to 2018 I really dont want to buy a car that has inherent problems like i am getting rid of Many thanks for eveyone advice
  7. Good Afternoon Everyone Thanks so much for your posts. Am i in the position of either proper repair or the scrap yard ? I cant believe that the initial fault is so bad that i cant keep it running for a few more weeks ? However I aloso think that it seems to be the end of the road for this car and i am thinking about taking it down to "we buy any car|" I have have a valuation of £3,700 when i out the reg in but from what has been said it cant be worth that - do i declare it a non runner or they savvy enough when i take it to them ? I dont want to take some money and have to pay it back. On the other hand i cant believe it is only worth a few hundred pounds but again someone else would be faced with the same decision Thanks again
  8. Good morning Steve It is a 1.8 petrol tfsi Thanks
  9. Good Evening All Last Year i wrote about my 2011 A4 with 58K miles on the clock that required a litre of all every few hundred miles. After having a quote from Audi for parts cost of £4K & Labour £4K i have decided to carry on. However just recently one of the cylinders is "coaking" up the spark plug every week or so and the engime is mis-firing. My mechanic has put new plugs and points for this cylinder but it keeps on happening. I think it will have to be sold but i need to keep it running for a few months to save up for an A3 Does anyone have any ideas for me and my mechanic to try I am really fed up ... I cant believe a car with so few miles is so problematic Thanks in advance of everyones help
  10. Good Evening Gareth I hope you are well. Thanks for your advice, to be honest i have'nt really decided what to do other than keep a diary as to how frequent i top up. I am an accountant by trade and i am asking for advice as this is way beyond my comfort zone. I appreciate everyone's advice and i will need to keep a litre in the car at all times. Take care Adrian
  11. Good Evening David Thanks for your posts .. can i ask for your advice .. i cant believe an engine with 55K miles on the clock is like this. I have spoke to Audi and to get it fixed will cost £4,800. I traditionally keep my cars for 10+ years and i have had this for 6, im not sure whether to get it fixed or sell it for reduced market value. Your feedback would be appreciated Thanks Adrian
  12. Good Evening Gareth Thanks again for your help. I have had the car for 6 years and it is serviced regularly and maintained as necessary. Just my luck to buy a car with a problem 😔 I am unsure what to do - i would like an A3 saloon but to buy one of these would cost me £12.5k after a 5k part ex quote. I have decided to maintain a log of the mileage between re-filling the oil. Would it be an idea to take it to Audi and ask them to confirm the issue if they put it on the diagnostic machine ? Could the engine deteriorate and go "bang" in the future. Thanks for your continued help Kind regards Adrian
  13. Good Evening I have found my engine number and even though i cannot be sure that i am effected i have read an article originating from USA. It says that owners should contact Audi - i know that this sound mad but i have done less than 60k miles and therefore the car should be covered. It also says the problem will get worse and eventually the engine will fail as the the cylinders will "score". Any suggestions please - should i consider getting rid of the car ? Sorry to be a pest - it also suggested recording the mileage interval that i top up Many thanks
  14. Good Evening Steve & Gareth Thanks very much for your help. I will complete this when i find the document. Sorry i have another question, is this likely to deteriorate ? My car is petrol, i have had it for 6 years and i was going to keep it for another 5 or so years. Its a lovely car and i have looked after it, this has put a question in my mind whether i should keep it for that long. Thanks again Adrian
  15. Thanks Steve & Gareth Sorry to be stupid is my engine code included within the windscreen long code ? Where do i go on the internet please to see if my engine is effected ? If it is, is there no cure and do i just need to keep topping up ? Yes i have had the car 6 years, i would'nt mind paying the repair if it fixed the problem. Thanks very much for your time and replies Adrian
