Can anyone recommend an OBD fault code reader?
Hammie1982 replied to Vikter's topic in Audi A6 (C7) Forum
If you were anywhere near me, I would plug mine in and have a look for codes for ya. Is there any members near by that you know of? -
Due to being Ill it took me quite a while to get this update done. Its now done, absolutely no issues. Simple update, Clear Concise instruction. I done the software update first, took about 2 hours (left the car running) and then the maps update (about an hour to complete) Made a major difference in the maps, as i no longer look like im driving across fields 60% of the time!

Ive just updated my own, from the thenavman.com. I updated MMI Software, Vehicle software and Maps. Whole update took about 3 hours and was very simple. I think the whole update cost me about £69.99. I contacted Ben thru Facebook and gave him the details. he gave me the link to order the right updates and they sent out the SD cards to me.

Servicing 2009 Auto Gearbox / Oil Pump
Hammie1982 replied to Hammie1982's topic in Audi A8 (D3) Forum
Steve, You might be right. As i said its something i was told but it could have been 100,000 kilometers instead of miles. -
Gentlemen and Ladies, Theres about 220 thousand Kilometres on my 09 A8 TDI Quatro. Ive only owned it since December and was thinking about the Gearbox and possible issues and how to extend the life of the box. I was thinking as I am going to get a full service done on the car soon anyway, it might be worth doing a service on the gearbox aswell. I have been told they should have an oil change every 100k miles or so ( seems excessive milage to be tho) but im wondering what you would recommend for a gearbox service? Also i have noticed on cold start that there is a ticking for about 3 / 4 seconds coming from the engine. Am I correct in saying this is the Oil pump thats taking a few seconds to come up to pressure? If it is, is a standard replacement advised or is there a more efficient pump that it can be changed to? Whats involved in the oil pump replacement? Is that an engine out kind of job or just done in situ?

What car will this engine fit? - Audi PETROL 5.2 V10
Hammie1982 replied to markoo's topic in Audi Technical
it would be a great engine for a drift car or a race car.. What application are you thinking of? -
£500 just to map out the AB system is alot. I had the same thing done on a Seat Alhambra 2015 for €200 a while ago. And it didnt have any effect on the MPG of the car. I would be going back to the people that mapped out the AB system and ask them exactly what else they done at the same time. I know costs are going to be different between different places etc, but i dont see why you would be paying more than double the price it cost me here in ireland.

I had a similar issue on my wifes Seat Alhambra. its a 2015 and after pulling the adblue injector / out of the exhaust end, it was all caked up and crusted up. We fixed that and a few weeks later it done the same thing. Being a little bit older and not really "needing adblue" i spoke to a very knowledgeable mechanic or 2 and their advise was "get shot of it, just map it out and the car wont ever look for it again" so thats the option we went with. the car has been thru the NCT since then and there was absolutely no issue with emmisions tests etc

Hey sorry for the late reply, Ive been ill and bed bound for a short while! I got an update for mine via Ben @Audi MMI Updates | CarPlay | Android Auto | 2024 Maps | Navigation (thenavman.com) Give them a shout and show them the pic above and they will be able to update the maps and the MMI software to the latest. I havent had a chance to install mine yet, but ill get to it in the next couple of days. Seems easy enough to do from what i have read! I dont know for certain it will fix the issues your suffering, but its another option ticked off the list. Steve is right tho, if you take away the power to the unit by disconnecting the battery etc. you will most likely need a radio code to get it operating again.
-
Quick question: have you checked the software version and known faults / updates available? the MMI seems to be something that is updated fairly regularly. I have just ordered the software update for my own, as i want to get the most possible out of the unit! The units themselves seem to be very good, however the software doesnt seem as good as the hardware at times. I dont understand the keys having any effect tbh, but removing the power from the unit via the Battery... is essentially a forced reset.

Hey thats a beautiful Jag, Always been a fan... like yourself im just back to Audi but this time in a A8... nothing too flash as its 14 years old Ive had a few A4's, 100's, 80's in the past, so no stranger to Audi.. ive been driving other VWGroup cars for a long time now Family car is a Seat Alhambra, Ive had a couple of Seat Ibiza TDI Sports, VW Passats etc. All great cars all with their own foibles and characteristics. I had the use of a friends XJ Sport for a few months while he was out of the country, he always told me it was a great car as long as it was warmed up and cooled down properly every trip. I found this out the hard way by being in a hurry to get somewhere and jumped in, turned the key and just drove off!!!!! 20 mins down the road it started overheating. it was the only time there was ever a bit of trouble with the car. as long as it was respected and treated the way it wanted to be, it was a super comfortable amazing car for its age.

Unfortunately because of the distances i travel and the times i travel on regular occasions i could have to do 2 or 3 hundred kilometers on a single trip and its normally outside of business hours so it might be impossible to get a tyre fixed until the next day or whatever.... thats the thinking behing my question more than anything

Gareth, Thanks for the reply, I dont like space saver wheels so im looking to find out what the wheel i have is so i can get a wheel the same that will fit in the boot. As far as i am aware the spare wheel on an A8 of this age was a full size alloy, (if i was closer to the car at the moment i would check this myself) I think i found out what wheels these are last night, and ill have a look in the boot and see what size of wheel fits in the boot wheel well and get one to fit in there. Think that might be the only way to get what im after.... i know theres a mathmatical equation that will give me the right size of wheel that will fit in there. Out of interest, does it matter with the Quattro drive system is one wheel is not the same size as the others? I know when i was driving a subaru previously i was told to always make sure the wheels where the same size due to causing issues with Axel and Centre diffs....... altho i know the systems are completely different i dont know if it would cause an issue with a wheel of a different size for a day or two

I wish we could have our front windows tinted like that here in Ireland. but alas its illegal here.... Nice motor.
-
Hi guys, I wanna get another wheel the same the rest of my alloys, but they arent standard wheels and i dont know what they are to be honest! Can anyone help identify these?

Gentlemens and womans.... Ive just realised i cant stream my music via the built in handsfree kit, So i got my trusty AMI cable out of the drawer and went to plug it in, so i can put in the Bluetooth yokiemabob that i used previously.... I dont have an AMI connector in the car... 6 disc CD changer and DVD player in there with SD card etc but no AMI connector. Where can i get a retrofit connector (Not ebay... I despise ebay).
-
Dang thats a nice lookin motor... great engines as long as they are looked after. Best of luck with the new motor

Forgot to add, I havent collected the car yet, I should be collecting it some time next week all being well! This is a photo from the Advert i seen before going looking at it and it just looks even better in the metal. Cannot wait to get this home and make a few subtle alterations to make it feel like my own.

Hey Guys, Just bought a 2009 Audi A8. Ive driven A6's and A4's in the past and always liked Audi as a brand. But never took the plunge into buying one for myself. So the last couple of years, ive been driving Commercial vans and Jeeps etc and decided it was time to get myself a bit of comfort. The 3.0 TDI Quatro Sport just fit the bill for what i wanted. Plenty of room for the kids, a bit of style and comfort and not an overly expensive car compared to some others. I think they came at 229bhp, would that be right? Anything i should look out for on them? I was surprised just how responsive and smooth the gearbox was. But i might just get a new filer and oil and possibly just service the gearbox (next time its getting a service anyway) just to be sure. Any advice you can give would be well received, Thanks in advance.
