I have answered this post elsewhere. After solenoid, cam sensor etc I became very despondent. I suddenly thought, the ECU remembers things. As the cam chain wore over a long period it thought this was ok. When the new chain was fitted the ECU thought it was too far advanced. I pulled the fuse on the ECU and waited 20 minutes, put it back and all has been well for some weeks now.

Sorry, I have replied to this post elsewhere. I stopped to think about what we had done. We changed all the associated parts and still the same. I thought, well the car learns about things and the cam chain has worn over time so the ECU was happy with that. Now it had a new chain the ECU does not understand the cam advance. Although the mechanic reset whatever he had to by software it didn’t help I crossed everything and pulled the ECU fuse, went and had a cup of tea and came back put tje fuse back snd no EM light since (3 weeks now)

Cntrl Alt Delete. In all seriousness. We know the ECU learns things and I think it learnt that the VVT was not working and was OK with that.

So am I. I was getting very depressed knowing I couldn’t afford anymore on the car. I guess it will also learn how I drive and forget the previous owners. Chuffed to bits. For a small fee I will tell the mechanic 😂😂

Sorry for the long post but I am very pleased to get a resolution. My P0011 too far advanced started after renewing cam belt cam chain water pump etc. Everything mechanical was changed, cam adjuster, solenoid valve and cam position sensor but still the same fault. Because I was fed up with looking at the EM light I disconnected the solenoid. All that did was throw up more errors about missing the solenoid. I then connected my spare solenoid and tie wrapped it in the bonnet. The fault was still there although there was no possibility of advancing the cam. Therefore the ECU thinks the cam is permanently too far advanced. The technician had already checked twice and the timing is right. I then thought as the old chain and tensioner were rattling the cam adjuster couldn’t have been working right, if at all. So now it is working the ECU is confused. I bit my tongue, held my breath and crossed everything and pulled the ECU fuse and went for a cup of tea. After replacing the fuse everything is working perfectly. So, a simple cold restart solved everything.

Thanks for the reply. the mechanic I am using has been excellent over the years with other cars and he has taken the covers off and checked again and says it is ok. I will ask him again. The cam adjuster is on a spring. I am wondering if you need to turn the adjuster and then put the chain on. There are many posts all over the internet with the same problem but I cannot find one with a fix.

I only have a cheap ODB reader so cannot check live data. I thought about buying VAGCOM but I only run Mac at home. I have the same issue on my old A4 B7. The slightest touch on the pedal accelerates, even a slight bump in the road. I assume it is a “fly by wire” accelerator as I cannot see a cable. Perhaps it is adjustable by VAGCOM.
