  1. Hi Please excuse this long quote. I am fairly old and no longer able to clamber about fixing cars. I recently bought an ‘06 A4 Quattro 2.0tfsi. Although it is old it has only done 75000. I decided to have the cam belt and chain changed as the chain rattled. I used a mechanic I have used many times before and he is great. After doing the work the EM light came on. He checked everything he had done, found no problems so changed the cam adjuster. Still got the light. I changed the solenoid/valve as it is easy, no different. I changed the cam position sensor, still no different. We are both stumped now. This was probably going to be my final car and I absolutely love it after my last old car. I am desperate for any help or maybe a recommended tech in North Surrey. Thanks for teading.
  2. Forgot to add, I bought the option “Bluetooth only”
  3. Hi I bought this one and it works https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003666056014.html?spm=a2g0n.order_detail.order_detail_item.2.7fb6f19cM9cxBB I have to press the CD button once for CD, twice for Bluetooth. I believe the car must be told it has a CD auto changer. A friendly mechanic plugged in and set mine.
  4. Yes. I have been Googling and reading. On the cam adjuster there are three split rings like piston rings. I am wondering if the mechanic changed them. I will ask him. Nothing else left.
  5. EM light is back after a couple of hours. It has to be something to do with the cam adjuster. Maybe the three oil rings.
  6. Hi Update to VVT problem. I have just received and fitted a new cam position sensor. (Why is something with just one bolt fitting still so tricky) I have only done a few miles but the light has stayed off. When I changed the solenoid valve it came straight back after 1/2 mile so hoping for a result. There were a couple of small bits of metal on it which doesn’t sound good but we will see. Thanks for your help. I will update in a couple of weeks.
  7. Aha, found it. Thanks
  8. Hi. Mechanic changed programming to include CD auto changer but the item still did not work. I bought a different unit and it worked straight away. I believe, or guess, one unit replaces the auto changer and one works alongside. The one that works has more wires in the blue connector. Thought I would update for anyone who is interested.
  9. Hi, I am a new member and would like to update my posts but cannot find them. Can anyone tell me the best way to search? Thanks
  10. The reason I ask is because suddenly after changing solenoid/actuator my petrol consumption has dropped considerably.
  11. Thanks I have ordered a cam sensor. Waiting for it I will keep you posted. If I change components such as cam adjuster valve will the software need recalibrating?
  12. Thanks for the reply. Do you think it is possible the cam adjuster has been assembled a tooth out? I am not a mechanic, just thinking logically. I thought if the cam position sensor is faulty all sorts of problems would arise. I guess for the small amount it costs I should change it.
  13. Hi I am having continuing problems with my camshaft timing. A mechanic friend changed the cambelt and cam chain for me and ever since I have an EM light fault saying cam advanced. He checked everything he had done. We have installed a new cam adjuster, I have just fitted a new solenoid/adjuster valve and still the EM light comes on. We have run out of ideas. I haven’t changed the cam position sensor but I would expect all sorts of other problems if it was that. HELP
  14. I have just purchased a Bluetooth adapter from eBay, it connects to the CD auto changer socket. I have just had my friendly mechanic program the radio to have an auto changer but it still doesn’t work. The Bluetooth connects to my phone but I cannot select the auto changer to play music. Somehow the radio does not recognise the device.
  15. I connected the device as specified by the manufacturer. That is, a blue connector which I believe is the CD auto changer. However I need to tell the car that it has a CD changer via programming. A mechanic I use is going to plug into it on Thursday. I will keep you posted.
  16. Hi I have purchased and fitted a similar device and connected via Bluetooth but I have no way to start playing. If I select CD it simply says No Disc
  17. Hi guys I have just purchased and installed a Bluetooth adapter to my A4 B7 Concert radio. I can see the Bluetooth transmitting and can connect my iPhone to it. I cannot select it from the radio. I assume it emulates being a CD multi changer but if I select CD it just says no disc. Do you think that somewhere, maybe VCDS, I have to tell the car it has a multi changer? Lost at the moment. Waiting for reply from supplier. Any help would be appreciated.
  18. Thanks. Yes, I have been looking at similar things since I posted. I was also concerned about disconnecting the radio without a code but am now familiar with the process.
  19. Hi I have an A4 B7 with a Concert radio. I don’t want to change it for something that looks out of place but I want to play music from my iPhone and retain the steering wheel controls. Any ideas?
  20. Hi Steve Q Finally got the car back today. Not sure what the part is called but it is a round housing with a gear which moves the timing chain through oil pressure and therefore the cam timing. Although the car has only done 75000 mls it is quite old so I guess new chain and cambelt just disturbed it. Anyway, ok now. The mechanic I take it to is a really good guy. Hasn’t charged me any more than the original job. After we are sure it is ok I will offer him at least the part cost.
  21. Hi Is it possible to switch off auto windscreen wipers on my A4 B7? I have had several different cars with auto wipers and none of them work. Either one wipe every three days or ten every second, well a slight exaggeration but you know what I mean. I guess the sensor is in the back of the mirror housing. What if I tape over it.
  22. Sounds like a suspension top mount bearing I had the same on my A2.
  23. Had a phone call Friday. They cannot find the problem. He has ordered a second cam chain kit because he thinks the first replacement is faulty. only other thing left is the cam position sensor. I will keep you posted.
