  1. Thanks Steve, sounds like good advice.
  2. I am about to put my 03 plate A4 in for a service. It has covered just over 150,000 miles. It also needs a clutch change. I have read about the injector looms being problematic on this engine. Would it be worth having this changed and the glow plugs to future proof the engine?. I haven't used the car in a winter yet and just want to avoid trips to the garage if it's having all this work done soon.
  3. Above and beyond LarHal. Thanks
  4. Nice one LarHal, I'm going to try that.
  5. Can I ask an A3 owner to send me measurements of their wiper arms? Also, a pic to show the shape would be appreciated.
  6. Hi Steve, I just scrapped an A3 after the timing belt tensioner decided to fail at 60mph. Had I known I was to acquire an A4 as a replacement I could have kept the wipers. Anyway, bottom line, I was hoping someone might be able to give me precise information. Maybe, I should place this on a general forum in case someone in the past has come across this issue.
  7. My 2003 SE has a wiper arm and blade unlike any other. When I acquired the car in Jan 24, the blades needed replacing. This turned out to be the most 'fiddly' task I have ever encountered, I broke the tiny retaining clip and had to use duct tape to secure the wiper until I could identify a replacement (which is only available through Audi). After several failed attempts to get the correct blades via eBay, I had to special order from a local auto spares shop. No choice, only Bosch blades available, and not cheap either. After this debacle, I would like to completely change the arms and blades, upgrading to aero blades if possible. Has anyone already done this what what wiper arms and blades were used?
  8. Hi Gareth, that's good advice, and this is exactly how I am driving. Like the chauffeur from 'Driving Miss Daisy'.
  9. Hi Rikky, sorry,I just noticed your A4 is a 1.8, and I have been 'banging on' about the 1.9 tdi PD engine.
  10. Hi Richard, I noticed your post, and having recently bought an Audi A4 b6 1.9 tdi. I thought I would take a peek and find out what might be in store for me in the future. However, looks like I am the first to respond. The only thing I might be able to shed some light on is the TD engine, my previous car was a VW Passat with the same engine. Although the timing belt lasted, I had problems with the tensioner, which on one occasion de-tensioned, fortunately it was slow and the engine just slowly misfired into a stall. On another occasion, the bracket that holds some sort of spring loaded pin to give more tension to the belt failed. Fortunately, I was going about 5 mph over a speed bump in a country park, so no damage to the engine. and the car went on to cover 240,000 miles before I wrote it off in a crash. But they do seem to be bullet proof. The A4 I have now has done 149,000 miles, but the previous owner has spent a fortune on the suspension and front sub frame replacement. However, He did live by the sea and that might be one reason for this. One issue I have is the temp gauge never seems to read correctly, unless the outside temp is 25 degrees. It was exactly the same on the Passat. which had the temp sender at the back of the engine replaced with no difference. I had the same changed, and the thermostat on the A4. All was good for about a month, now it's back to previous indications.
  11. The brake pedal is hard with the car at rest.
  12. Thanks Clifford, I will start saving up now, just hope it lasts until March next year.
  13. Yes definitely, you may need the ECM adjusting to recognize this. There are blanking kits on Ebay. This was my way forward after the Ebay EGR cooler didn't fix the coolant disappearing.
  14. Hi Robert, it sounds like the EGR cooler. Very common fault on these engines. Not an easy DIY replacement either, cost me £100 to pay the garage to change mine.
  15. I bought the car in Jan 2024, is has done 149,000 miles. However, there is no problem selecting gears and the only time I had a suspicion that the clutch might need replacing, was when the car was fully loaded returning from a few days away. On a motorway filter lane, I gave the throttle some 'beans' to get up to motorway speed. The revs climbed but the speed didn't, I came off the throttle and tried to accelerate again, this time without an issue. Where I live, is at the top of a hill with a steep winding road with 2nd and 3rd gear 90 degree steep sharp turns. The clutch shows no signs of wear when negotiating this every day. I have tried to recreate the clutch slipping issue when entering a duel carriageway/motorway since and if I really floor the throttle in 3dr or 4th gear I can get the situation where the revs rise but not the speedo. The obvious, with the mileage, would be the clutch I suppose. However, because there are no other issues, I wonder if I might be missing something else.
