  1. Love the detail, I’ve got a nasty feeling this might be coming my way. It’s permanently open at the moment but if it locks itself I will be back to this post to help me with the solution. Nice One! Terry.
  2. Hi all, This fault code relates to the Tank lid Activation and was flagged up when I scanned the car using the OBDEleven. I have just manually tested the locking mechanism and unfortunately it is not locking when I lock the car. The good news it’s not permanently locked. Your comments are most welcome. Thanks. Terry. Just realised I’ve posted in wrong forum. Should have been A3 8v forum.
  3. Hi Gareth, Yes, I am aware of the adaptation and replacement of new battery. But I’m only aware! Or rather I’m thinking…..Be Aware!!! I am/have been swatting up, so to speak. I would like to have a go, never one to shirk my responsibility so to speak. Seriously, though. I would like to go for it once I’ve got it in my head, whether it goes to my brain is another thing. I’m making notes and will have them beside me when I plug the OBDEleven into the car. Battery should be with me around Wednesday but I’ll not go until I’m ready. I mean, how difficult can it be to change a battery. Ha! Ha! Ha! We’ve done loads in our lifetime haven’t we???? I’m hoping for back-up should I need it………!? Speak soon. Terry.
  4. Very well put Steve, I think you speak for millions of us ‘Petrolheads’. Terry.
  5. Hi Gareth, So, having had their recommendation: We believe that the product you need is the S5 A08 Bosch AGM Car Battery 12V 70Ah Type 096 S5A08 I have reviewed it some more and it sits well with Exide & Varta but the final decision laid with ‘The Battery Geek’. So, in a nutshell, their choice was spot on. Got a 5% discount taboot! Just to give you a heads-up on my current battery, it sits at 12.2v in the driveway. Not enough to give me a guaranteed start everyday. I think it could be the original Varta that came with the vehicle? (8yrs) Maybe?! Good to chat. Terry
  6. Thank you Gareth, Yes, I have been in touch with Tayna explaining I would prefer an AGM battery giving them my reg & vin details. They came back this morning asking for details of my battery inc measurements and battery details. I’m not sure why they cannot match the battery given that they have my car details. It’s a strange thing too that I was thinking of the Exide equivalent. I have reviewed an article on the Battery Geek website and read an article on EFB vs AGM and it appears that the AGM is by far the winner in so many ways, albeit a bit more money. Your thoughts please, before I buy. Terry.
  7. Hi Gareth, Yep! According to my vehicle details this one fits. What do you think. If I order before 5th Dec I get 5% off. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/312599424596?fits=Car+Make%3AAudi|Cars+Type%3A2.0+TFSI+quattro|Plat_Gen%3A8VA%2C8VF|Cars+Year%3A2017|Model%3AA3&_skw=tayna+batteries&epid=249035218&itmmeta=01JE1X7STMY4YZZWNJS17MN6K1&hash=item48c860ae54:g:p9gAAOSwzEtnSKh8&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAABEHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKnIjhwW8pJkyaMbiNQM0Qmhgmru9GPXaQD417wpYfQt7CWSzD%2FD2y%2FPFjVbp9bHhaemoSIf02Tr2dSYNlMLg24ORnaIPovnH%2BucCJlJNxWPA%2Fy6LlIAXZx%2FFlj%2FACjRKX7g1ZBEmY95B7pgSWQQWM9TDfVqE7IbuJOvqv1SKD6BckcLQMHy9TcAr6RyQBStZfWbAR1ziWf3Y%2BafAIeJqumZSLWaEA70j9RtSfw0CJy9w34jX%2F0Mp54m2deG2StFTp79%2B7oUyEfyYJ4uZqY%2Bb8emVg7UouSNBLGqiH6bkzumjpU6aBcRpBlr4kfVCnad7QhvVSYhjaWEJOeAAYPoeA5F|tkp%3ABk9SR7adn73wZA Cheers. Terry.
  8. Thanks Gareth, Exactly, Why Autodoc?……..just fishing Gareth. Thanks for the info, am on it now…… Terry
  9. Nice one Gareth, its all about perspective I’d say. I’m pleased I’ve got a response. Thanks. Terry
  10. Hi all, I know this is an old post but following jamesW recommendation at auto doc I found this battery: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/exide/7532994 Am I correct in thinking it would fit my car: 2017 A3 2.0 tfsi Quattro s-tronic Thanks. Terry.
  11. Yes Steve, All what you say is not only possible but highly probable. Just maybe, part of the problem is the old, ‘divide and conquer’ ruling. Why is it we (the UK) are so wrapped up in regionalising (dividing) of our opinions that we are missing the bigger picture. All for one, one for all. If, for example you ask just two people for an opinion there is big chance they are going to disagree. Therefore, if you ask 60 million people the same question that equation would not even be 50/50. Personally, I feel that the downfall of our country, as a whole, is that it is not a whole. Rather, it is too regionalised, even down to the north/south divide on matters such as the weather……..I mean, come on, how is that someone born in the south of our country is somehow inferior to someone born in the north of our country. It is, after all, our country, all of ours north, south, east, & west. I think some people especially throughout the EU call it the island mentality. There was no disparity when we, our country, fought to defend itself during the 1st & 2nd world wars. I don’t expect we had those conversations in the trenches that measured a mans worth depending on where he was born or what was the weather was at home where he came from. Get over yourselves!! And do you know why? WE HAVE NO LEADERS> Whatever your political persuasion. There is no-one to lead us. Which is why we will always be weak when there are so many political parties wanting a slice of our cake. There will never be any cohesion when we are constantly divided. Terry
  12. Hi Steve, Update for you. Re: OBDEleven PRO VAG Special pro pack deal inc 3year subscription 145 euros + p&p from OBD site. Turns out they had Black Friday deal, -30% Now we’re talking. Terry.
  13. Good morning Steve, Thanks for info on OBDEleven. I’ve been on their website and as you are familiar there are 3 versions: Free, Pro VAG, & Ultimate VAG. You mentioned you have the Pro, is that what you recommend or would the free version be adequate? Also, should the FREE be purchased, can you upgrade to pro later? By the way, how much is the Pro and is there an ongoing paid subscription attached to that. You mention a possible brake pad maintenance or replacement, I have another little story on that……. Before I purchased the car there were a few issues that I wanted put right to which they said ok to. What I wasn’t prepared for was the issue of the brakes which came about when they put the car for MOT. Anyway, to my benefit they replaced discs and pads on all four wheels (a cost to them of £700). Now, the thing is, I am not aware of the actual problem that was flagged up. So it could be that the issue with the parking brake was part of the overall problem. But not deleted from the on board computer, hence, it was still showing as a live fault. Just a guess really. Just to point out, I did not purchase the car from the main dealer, rather it was a company called EMG and the particular garage was located at Duxford, Cambridgeshire. Opposite the Duxford Air Museum (off M11). Speak later. Terry
  14. Hi Steve, I somehow knew when joining the Audi owners club it would be a benefit. You have just cemented that for me. Thanks. This time of year I am always looking for ideas to treat myself for Christmas. I bet you can’t guess what that might be…..ho! ho! ho! What are your thoughts on my cancelling the handbrake diagnostic appointment made for 6th Jan ‘25. MOT is due end of January too!! Not sure if it has a bearing. Any particular outlet you would recommend to purchase OBDEleven or are they all same as? I ask that cos you mentioned tokens? Thanks too for inviting me back should I need help. Terry.
  15. Hi Steve, Are you recommending the OBDEleven? As and when I get that light-on. It so happens that when it was in the dealers garage having the recalls updated, there was a handbrake fault picked up but the handbrake is working mechanically (it holds on a hill) but the car needs plugging in to find what the fault is. I knew of this fault, but it was not a light, just a warning message of sorts. Cannot remember what it actually said though. I’ve not seen the message since getting car home. They said they didn’t have enough time when it was with them sorting out the FREE recalls. Of course they didn’t!!!??? Wait for it……this will cost me £180 for Diagnostic only?????? You just know they will get their money somehow!!! Nothing is ever free, would you agree? Terry
  16. Thank you Clifford, Of course, I know you are right. As I’ve alluded to earlier, I think its all about those days when we could tinker with our motor, not fearing we would end up in a worst state. Cars in my day were not fancy but they were robust enough that us home mechanics could attempt the most outlandish repairs (with our trusty Haines manual) and still use for work the next day. I guess I’m still hankering for something to do other than keep it clean, of which I do enjoy. But where’s my spanner, lol!! Thanks again. Terry
  17. Thanks again Steve, I remember those add-ons too. Being 74yrs I remember a lot more besides. Although it didn’t seem to bother us in those days, I feel we were a lot more carefree and accepting. Today, you just seem to know in the back of our mind that everyone wants your money and will promise you the world to get it. Thanks for putting my feet back on the ground. Oh! For those old days when we could get the tools out and do our mods or whatever to our beloved motor. I was never happier than when I had a spanner in my hand. Thanks for your involvement. Terry
  18. Again, solid advice which I will seriously take into consideration. That feeling of ‘I want it now’ is gradually diminishing. Thanks all. Terry.
  19. Thanks to you all, This is why I joined the club. So I can get, ‘The voice/s of reason’. A re-map it is then, maybe. Thanks again. Terry
  20. Hi all, My recent purchase of my 2017 Audi A3 2.0l sportback Quattro has been very eventful. A couple of recalls have now been updated. This was coupled with a complimentary ‘Health check’. Plus a courtesy car, all FOC (Free of charge). Get in!!!! And yes this was at an Audi main dealership of course in Bury St Edmunds. (1) ECU Update 24GP relating to the Lambda value (of which I’m sure you are aware of) which measures oxygen levels in the engine emissions. (2) Gearbox Update 34L4 relating to TCM (transmission control module). This software relates to enhance an in-vehicle alert should a problem arise within the auxiliary hydraulic pump. Carrying on from all that. As much as I am enjoying my new toy, what is a bit of a pain, (for me anyhow) is the fly-by-wire throttle response turbo-lag. I’m so used to much older vehicles with a cable, hence instant acceleration. I cannot even ‘drive through it’ although to be fair, when sport dynamic mode is selected it tends to improve matters somewhat. So does fuel consumption unfortunately!! Which brings me onto the subject (which I’m sure you have your own take) of the ‘Sprint Booster’. It’s one of those situations (is it too good to be true) situations. Of course, I’m only looking at what I want to see and no more I want one, Now! So now you all have the opportunity to burst my bubble. So don’t hold back. Do your worst!? I cannot sleep until I have the big picture. Thanks in anticipation. Terry I’ve seen it here: https://www.rtecshop.co.uk/sprint-booster-for-audi-a3-all-engines/prod_29036.html
