  1. Hi Colin....welcome to the Forum That's a great looking car and can't believe you have lost it to the wife already! When you've sussed the MMI system you can enlighten us all :-) Cheers Trevor
  2. Hi Ali...welcome to the Forum The first place I would check out is the coolant reservoir pressure cap....if that is weak (it can be pressure tested) then it can allow coolant to escape as vapour if it doesn't hold the pressure to at least 14-18 psi. http://www.audiownersclub.com/parts-results/A3-S3/Engine-Cooling-/33599 Got to be the cheapest place to start looking at Let us know how you get on with it. Cheers Trevor
  3. Quality! seems almost retro nowadays, but almost the norm back then
  4. most alternators would provide an operating voltage of between 12 to 14 volts which fluctuates depending upon power demands. the only difference I can think you may be presented with is the output current (e.g. 60 amps, 80 amps, etc)
  5. would like to see the before and after if you could take some photos and post them up
  6. I would probably remove if it's easy enough or at least mask up behind it so that the overspray doesn't go everywhere
  7. My thoughts are that if it doesn't cost a huge amount of cash to buy one, then why not. At least you know it's there if you need it.
  8. Wow! Looks amazing scenery in the areas highlighted. I would imagine though it is always only as nice as the weather at the time. When I have done a long run I have always gone south (from Dorset) but have always wondered what it would be like to tour Scotland. Let us know how you progress with this trip...sounds very interesting! Cheers Trevor
  9. Hi Wayne...welcome to the Forum Your new Audi looks great! I was just laughing about your comment about the floor falling out...that used to be so common place on old cars, bits falling off, bodyshells collapsing...brought back memories of welding everything that used to come into the workshop. Look forward to reading your posts in the future Cheers Trevor
  10. Hi Craig...welcome to the Forum Glad your enjoying your new Audi and also an oldie like the Beetle...timeless car, great fun to drive! Looking forward to reading your posts. Cheers Trevor
  11. Hi...welcome to the Forum You can find secondhand fobs on eBay and they will need coding to the vehicle. Let us know how you get on with it. Cheers Trevor
  12. The one I used to use was made by Comma but not sure where you can but it from nowadays...could try a Motor Factors first.
  13. Hi Simon...welcome to the Forum I suppose the easiest way is to connect a good quality scanner to the car and it should display the module fitted. Let us know how you get on with the retro-fit. Cheers Trevor
  14. Hi Craig...welcome to the Forum That is absolute insanity! I suppose the headrests are active ones in the event of an accident? I have no idea what the answer is but when your child grows in height then it's no longer applicable....but what a rediculous law. Let us know how you get on with it all Cheers Trevor
  15. Hi Carl...welcome to the Forum Wow...great mileage on the A6 and what are a shame about the Coupe GT, such a lovely car. Look forward to reading your posts on here in the future. Cheers Trevor
  16. I would at least contact them to discuss further and get a gist of what they would do for £150....
  17. Hi Tom....welcome to the Forum I have attached a link which will show you the position of the plug. http://www.wikiobd.co.uk/vehicle.php?vh=1019 Cheers, Trevor
  18. Hi Matthew...welcome to the Forum I suppose if you are predominantly driving short distances then a petrol may be better all round. If choosing Diesel, then it will need a good blast every so often to clear the DPF as it all clogs up around town driving. Let us know which way it goes. Cheers Trevor
  19. I have never experienced any issues with using engine flush, but I alway use the one that you drain down the oil, fill half the contents (2.5 - 3.0 litre) and run the engine at fast idle (approx. 1200 rpm for around 5 minutes and drain down. Used this process/flush oil on a commercial basis in my garage business for years with no issues and it definitely cleans out partially blocked oilways and cures rattling hydraulic lifter problems. The 'add to oil' type flush in my mind doesn't work as well, but I cannot see how any engine oil flush or detergent flush would have any detrimental effect on an engine. The only time I would not advise to use any thin oil or flush is when a diesel engine is heavily worn and it can potentially draw the fluid past the rings and combust it, leading to a 'runaway engine'. Engine oil quality is simple....you get what you pay for! Probably the best oils I have used are Mobil1 (not cheap) and Shell Helix Ultra (cheaper). Spark Plugs....either NGK or even Champion (who have now got their act sorted and producing good plugs again). Would avoid Bosch at all costs.
  20. Oh very nice! Definitely looks the part
  21. As the weather is now getting a bit colder, especially in the early morning, batteries tend to show their true colours and if they are original fitment and the car is several years old then the first time it goes flat, suggests that it has seen better days and a new one is needed. Before buying a new one it's worth considering an age old adage which goes 'you get what you pay for' and in the case of car batteries, this is most certainly the case.
  22. Hi Paul....welcome to the Forum The A7 sounds interesting....what mods have been carried out on it so far? Got any photos to post up to show the mods? Good to have you onboard. Cheers Trevor
