Audi Convertible Roof - Warranty issues
Magnet replied to Chris Nicholls's topic in Audi Insurance & Warranty Discussions
Many thanks indeed Chris, Sounds as if you have a very structured and comprehensive history, and a forward plan. Since the photos are as it was in 2021, I must say I too would have been seriously dissatisfied with a rejection with that. Not wishing to add to your court costs concerns, could you check that you won’t need a professional report on the roof condition as shown in the photos, and the presence of that person at court on the day? As I understood it, that was certainly advantageous. Companies do not favour such actions, and it wouldn’t surprise me that your experienced neighbour and family member would be of the opinion that they usually settle out of court to avoid precedent. Just for background:- Not sure about the Motoring Ombudsman, but the utilities Ombudsman system is funded by the 6 or so largest suppliers! Independent? Depends how you look at it. Good luck, and we would be grateful if you could keep in touch as things progress, Good luck and kind regards, Gareth. -
Hello Mark, I think you will get a more meaningful answer by asking at a couple of your local car sales sites. These chaps work on margins where they need to know who does nice work at reasonable prices. Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks Stason, To try to boil this down:- It’s not uncommon for engines to use some oil over the first few thousand miles until they bed in, but is uncommon after that mileage has been covered. So OP Brian’s car at 30K Kms. should not be using the amount of oil it does -? ’Engine oil evaporates…’. Sorry for the contra opinion, but I think oil technologists would be disappointed to hear that! Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks Richard, Sorry for the questions, but was the s/s actually working when you picked it up, but has stopped working now? That would be unusual. Far more common for it not to be working when bought, due to the vehicle sitting around on forecourts with the battery running down. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Worth getting the alternator output checked at the same time.

Thanks Stason, but I think you are contradicting yourself to some degree:- You add 1ltr every 2/3K miles. You say it isn’t normal to add 1 ltr at 1K to the same 2k miles. Kind regards, Gareth.

Audi Convertible Roof - Warranty issues
Magnet replied to Chris Nicholls's topic in Audi Insurance & Warranty Discussions
Hello Chris, Welcome, and sorry to hear of your issue. For me and other members to get this straight, can you please let us have confirmation on the following:- (1) The car was less than 3 years old and still under warranty when you first complained to the dealer? (2) Do you have a record of the complaint date? (3) Have you got photographic evidence of the roof’s condition at that time? (4) Do the photos you have now listed show the roof as it is now, or what it was when still under the 3 year warranty? (5) Have you studied/ taken legal advice regarding this issue not being covered in the extended warranty? Kind regards, Gareth. -
I’m reading 75ml as 750ml. I’ve unmarked this thread as ‘Solution’ since the history is vague, and the future is certainly uncertain.
-
Thanks Leah, Please let us know how you get on, as an aid to others in the future? Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Any particular reason for responding to this nearer 2 year old thread James? I haven’t opened the link.
-
Welcome Leah, Audi extended warranty? If so, I believe parts should be covered, but diagnostics will be charged for. Taking it to a local garage to save some of the £170? Could lose claim to your warranty, and how much are you going to end up saving anyway. Kind regards, Gareth.

Voltage drops below 9V when trying to start
Magnet replied to Mikester349's topic in Audi A4 (B7) Forum
Thanks Mike, Yes, you need to check the heavy black wire running off the negative terminal of the battery. Also the probably unsheathed heavy flexible cable that connects from the chassis to the engine or gearbox. Disconnect the positive cable and if possible unbolt the earth cable off the chassis earth point and throughly clean the terminal and chassis, before reconnecting. Again with the battery disconnected, check and clean the terminals on the starter motor. Once you have done all that, reconnect the battery and test. Relays, crankshaft sensor checking?? This car is never going to start (even if cranking over) with an under-load voltage of <9 volts. Suspect may well be the starter solenoid/ starter, if no faults found. Battery quoted CCAs can often be rather like car manufacturers quote mpg figures - ‘embellished’! Brand of battery? Kind regards, Gareth. -
Welcome Chet and thanks for joining. Some may say that harnesses are fitted which cater for additional equipment beyond that specified in the build record. In my book, not so, as manufacturers tailor harnesses to only cater for that build specification. Acid test is you will have to remove the mirrors to check. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Mike, Sorry hear of your issue. Before delving into more complex possibilities, have you checked the main earths - off the battery and across to the engine? Good branded replacement battery fitted? Kind regards, Gareth. -

Sachs and LUK are fine Mariano, but don’t deviate from these. Input your registration number into Parts in Motion website and you should come up with some competitive prices. Availability of non-Audi DMFs?? Perhaps you could let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth. -
Thanks Brian, Have a read of my post of 19 hours ago, and let me know what you don’t understand about the questions asked, or hopefully just come up with all the answers. Kind regards, Gareth.

I’m talking oil consumption Brian, not fuel.
-
Thanks Brian, but you are not giving us any answers to the questions in the last post. Kind regards, Gareth.

Could I add - use shrink sleeving over the joint if neede. Easier than tape. Kind regards, Gareth. -
Welcome Thijm, Unfortunately Greg_B hasn’t been back to the forum for almost 2 years. I would suggest you send him a PM. Worth doing the same with Alde20. Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Thanks again Michal, Did it actually say ‘without any faults’ in the advert, or didn’t it list any faults? You may find the CAB could be of help to you. Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Hello Michal, ( sorry, I’ve been spelling you name the U.K. way) So it seems you bought it, and only later discovered this, and then I guess you contacted the seller about your concern-? It’s very difficult for us to get the full time-line situation without asking more questions. Anyway - possible redress. This will strictly depend on the actual wording of the advertisement. That’s why sellers often keep descriptions vague, such as ‘starts, drives, stops’ etc. We may be able to advise you further if you let us have a transcript of the advert. Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Even though you disagreed, you still bought it Michael! Mileage and service history? Private or dealer?
-
Welcome Michael, Looks characteristic of blowing passed the pistons. Mileage, history, how long has it been doing this? Possible crankcase ventilation issue?? Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Just remove the rear arm and blade Ian, and retain your washers.
-
Apologies - washers through last winter-?
