  1. As said, it’s not a job to entertain if you don’t have the right tools - as Jonathan’s experience demonstrates.
  2. Glad you are getting it sorted Jonathan. Perhaps you can update us when it’s been done, and let’s hope your noises disappear. Are you having a new hub fitted, as opposed to fitting new bearings in your current hub? Hello Colwyn, Apologies for the contra opinion, but trying to remove this bolt with the hub knuckle off the car simply exaggerates the problem, since you then have to apply resistive forces to stop the knuckle moving about - sorry, doesn’t compute. I can’t say I’m a fan of applying heat either, but…. The answer is having the correct equipment to do the job - a high powered air operated impact wrench and a high quality appropriate ‘socket’. If you don’t have these, then things are likely to end up where Jonathan did ‘….sorry I started…’ Kind regards, Gareth. Kind regards, Gareth.
  3. Thanks James, Checking if bonnet isn’t fully closed is always the first check if wipers are not working, but thanks for reinforcing that. Kind regards, Garetn h.
  4. Hello Kevin, As Cliff says - EBay is a good place to start listing the car - under Classic Cars category. Start it off on a low start, and see how it goes. Worth stating that it is advertised elsewhere and can be withdrawn. Also worth advertising in Classic Car Weekly ( probably under ‘offers’ which I don’t like!). I think there is also a publication ‘Modern Classics’ so again worth a go. Motor traders wouldn’t be interested, but worth searching EBay - again under Classic Cars, and picking out sales by Classic car specialists and contact them. Let us know how you get on Kevin. Kind regards, Gareth.
  5. Welcome Oliver and thanks for joining. Where are you looking, to come up with your multiple choices, and what band/s are you looking to buy? Would be be right in believing you will be renewing the pads at the same time, and again, have you decided on what brand you are going to use? Kind regards, Gareth.
  6. Apologies for even more questions Caroline Audi -£300 - supply and fit or supply only. It’s not really about making a new one - even in impressive marine grade stainless, but as said, how is anyone going to ensure that the length is going to as accurate as it needs to be - as already said. If you are going to go down that route then be repaired to dismantle the passenger side one to use as a pattern. I believe that when you buy the replacement ‘mechanism’ it came complete with some metal framework and not just the cable - unless the convertible is different. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. who are ‘they ‘ that you refer to?
  7. Possibly on a non disclosure order as part of the agreement action??
  8. Thanks Mario, I take it you know the bonnet has to be fully closed for the (front anyway) wipers to work? I bonnet is fully closed, check you don’t have a ‘Bonnet open’ dashboard warning light showing - indication a faulty switch. Kind regards, Gareth.
  9. Thanks for the update Caroline. Re. reconditioning - what has broken with yours? Cable/cables? I guess you could look around for someone to make you a new cable, but beware, these cables control the window movement and stopping positions, and the precise length of the cable is critical. For a cable that has broken away in two pieces, how are you going to accurately determine the length? By removing the opposite one I guess, but…. You haven’t said whether you have checked on EBay - ? I would think yours would be less prolific due to being a convertible. Have you tried on-line car breaker link sites such as Partsfinder there are more) where you register your ‘want’? Kind regards, Gareth.
  10. Welcome Sharon and thanks for joining. To try to boil this down for forum members:- Can we take it you have already sought advice from a qualified accountant who has been able to give you all the necessary advice associated with your personal situation? Can we take it you are looking at the self charging hybrid? Have you checked whether Audi are still producing a diesel model? Final question:- Are you asking the simple question - Does the hybrid cost less/mile to run than a diesel? Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Isn’t the company funding your day to day business mileage then?
  11. I understand your desire to want to try an M17 spline Johnny, but please don’t go there - you will regret it! I think you now have to resort to leaving those who are correctly equipped do this job. Long levers in their our right have already got you into trouble - please don’t compound it. Impact wrench is essential.
  12. Please give us the links to them Steve.
  13. Welcome Jonathan and sorry to hear of your plight. In my experience, the proper way to remove these is with a high powered air operated impact wrench. Obviously too late now, but I guess your suggestion would now be your best option, since I can’t see you being able to drill the head off that. Sounds as you say, it sounds like welding the spline socket onto the bolt head - at a garage equipped to do so, then asking them to try their impact wrench on it. I take it you were intending to replace the hub complete with bearing rather than trying to fit a new bearing into the old hub-? I think you will find the ABS sender is integral with the hub, so if you don’t replace the whole hub now, you will find yourself doing so again before the bearing wears out. Try pricing a Febi hub ( with bearing) at Parts in Motion at Exeter. Well worth assessing the condition of/replacing the back plate at the same time since these do get rusty. Keep us posted on how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Think the Febi hubs come with a new bolt.
  14. Thanks whoever you are, and although the forum is very welcoming to new members, I am as wary of dealing with so called un-named persons, as you are about giving your name, so regrettably - impass - and I wish you well in getting your issues sorted. Kind regards, Gareth.
  15. Thanks Jon, but is this really a 2024 car??
  16. Many thanks Terry, Did you try Parkers guide valuation (if still operating)? It is likely to be a ‘paid for’ service with a nominal charge, but should provide you with a mileage adjustment valuation. They used to be specific, and give you alternative prices for buying from a dealer, selling privately, and expected parts exchange valuations. Alternative would be to list it on EBay and see how it runs. Kind regards, Gareth.
  17. Thanks for joining Jon. Are you really intending to get this new 2024 performance car mapped, and invalidate the quarantine-?
  18. Children/ drinks in car/ mess in car?? Seriously, are they not able to get enough fluid inside them before they get in the car then, and how unreasonable is it to say to them - Thou shall not drink in the car - right - got it? You can drink whatever you want once you are out of the car. Thimple! as out little standy up beings would say!
  19. Hello Shelley, Sorry it’s worked out like this for you, but as Cliff says, at least it has indeed worked out. Stress, hassle, inconvenience, out of pocket etc.etc. All Very valid reasons not to take up further battles to attempt to recoup your outlay and compensation for the above to date. In my book, it really boils down to what stress value and potential further cost implications you place on your principles. The dealer/ Audi will have far bigger guns than you or the average owner can economically stretch to and gamble with, in attempts to gain compensation. In the end, it will all boil down to ‘is it worth confronting big guns in the hope you may get some recompense’ ? Quite fairly, only you can make that decision. Whatever it is, the forum genuinely hopes it works out for you in the quickest possible time. Kind regards, Gareth.
  20. Cutting to the case Kevin, and solving your issue at zero cost - ban the children from drinking in the car - not too much of an ask -? Kind regards, Gareth.
  21. Sorry you aren’t getting any responses so far Steve. Have you tried local specialists for the advice you need? Kind regards, Gareth.
  22. Apologies for saying it as it is Edward, but for the very clever chap you obviously are to be able to carryout all the work you have (at great expense), you are acting a bit ( very big bit!) daft with this. Cliff sums it up far better than me. All I can add is:- Absolutely, A verbal agreement is not worth the paper it’s written on. Kind regards, Gareth.
  23. Thanks Terry, You best guide will be to search Autotrader for similar models. You could also get some valuation on- line from Parkers, but don’t expect to achieve values that dealers advertise at, since you will not be offering, finance, guarantees, and part exchange facilities. I may be worth keeping in mind that it’s not all about price, but important consideration would be desirability - I.e. you have to find someone who actually wants to buy one at a time when sales seem to have slowed down considerably.
  24. Hello Adam and Cliff, Apologies for jumping in on this, particularly since my suggestion may not be valid:- Are you sure the reservoir cap is always fully tightened? If so, it might be worth investing in a new one, since the system would have been pressure tested without your cap- so a faulty cap would have been excluded from the equation. Just a thought. Kind regards, Gareth.
  25. Hello Daryl, As an ‘Established Member’ we would have hoped you would have updated the forum on how you got on, and if you followed the advice given when you sought that advice. Not to do so isn’t really good form, but I thought it worth asking again -for the last time! I’m sure your experiences will help others in the future, and this is the only way we a get feedback which shud help others. Many thanks, and look forward to hearing from you shortly. Gareth. p.s. You did say ‘any help greatly appreciated ‘… but it doesn’t seem so from your reaction so far.
