If this has been noticed following a service (at main dealer?) then surely it’s worth revisiting there to seek advice.

Thanks Stephen, but that doesn’t tell me anything about how often you travel into unknown territory, so we can work out how much of an inconvenience your current unupdated system is to you.

Hello Stephen, Can we take it you cover a fair amount of unknown territory on a regular basis, and are getting into difficulties because major roads have changed over the last 7 years? Can’t get potholes repaired in these parts, leave alone get any new road developments!

Thanks Joe, But you said in the 5th post, that you did have reverse lights - I took that to mean they are working. I thought that was a reasonable interpretation! I was wrong then. Since we now know they aren’t working, then it’s back to first principles and check that the appropriate fuse hasn’t blown. If it hasn’t then you need to check for 12v coming to the reversing switch. If you have 12v on one side of the switch, you then need to select reverse, and check if you have 12v on the other terminal. If not, you will need to replace the switch. Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks Chris, and sorry to hear of your issues with this. Probably from the mind of an old cynic. - why would you want to spend 4 x £400 per wheel +tyre costs to fit to an 11 year old car? Still…. What price do you want to list the wheel for Chris - as opposed to ‘offers’? Kind regards, Gareth.

Sounds like you are rather set on going down the injector route then Clare. My logic comes from the school of eliminating the least costly things first, and that has always stood me in good stead. Yes, you can claim the sensor is fine since it doesn’t test open circuit, but is that an acid test under constant operating conditions? Yes, possible injector/s issue; yes, could be fuel pump issues, but I know where I would want to start my elimination process from. Kind regards, Gareth. -
We can see you have revisited the forum since the last response Gary, so what is the question you refer to in Post No3? Second time of asking. It’s ironic that you criticise the Audizine? forum for not responding, and you are doing exactly the same!

Welcome Clare and thanks for joining. It’s great that you are DIYing this, and if it were mine, I would be ‘investing’ in a pressure sensor to hopefully sort 247, before moving on to other more complex possibilities. Worth buying a quality brand such as Bosch rather than cheapest available. Perhaps you could keep us posted on developments. Kind regards, Gareth. -

Hello Tony, Since you have had the car scanned at Audi , and had the gearbox serviced 18 months ago, then I think you are right to consider getting the mapping reset to factory settings before doing anything else. Am I understanding the gearbox specialist? advised you to get this mapped, because there was a fault with the car at that point 18 months ago? If so, odd advice?? Hello ( Paul?), Wonder if you can do us a kindness and fill in your name on your Profile. I too think your best way forward initially is to look up all available on-line buyer’s guides. You will first need to decide whether you want to buy an A5 or an A6, and then decide whether you prefer diesel or petrol. Once you have done that, then it’s possible that owners of each on here will better know whether to respond or not. Since you don’t know a lot about cars, the all important advice you need to follow is -do not buy any car without having it professionally inspected before purchase. Yes, I know it will cost, but it will save you far, far more in ongoing costs and hassle if you don’t. Please don’t depend on ‘it’s got full service history’ claims, that won’t be sufficient. First spend a comparatively small amount of money out of your budget to better insure you are buying a good example. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello,- can you please first complete your Profile, by entering your name, so we all know who we are talking to. Many thanks. Let’s re-look at this:- The gearbox reverse switch must be working, since your reverse lights are working, so why are you concerning yourself about getting the correct replacement? Forget about that as the culprit. I’ve tried to explain that one faulty in-bumper sensor renders the whole system inoperative, so you need to assure yourself that all 4? are serviceable - my feeling is one or more aren’t. In my experience, you can give them as many coats of looking at as you like, but they will appear to be intact. It has been said that you can put your ear it each one, and the offending one will reveal itself. Hasn’t worked for me. What you need to do:- Confirm you have 12v at the module - we take it you have a multimeter-? If so, you need to get each sensor diagnostically checked, and that result will tell you whether any are faulty, and if so, exactly which of the 4 is the offender. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth.

Similar issue with mine sometime ago, but continuous bleep. Turned out just one sensor had failed. One failed = all don’t work. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello whoever (Joe??), As Stevey Y points out. If the reversing light/ lights work then you should be getting 12v to the module, so you will need to check that. Normally when the reverse sensors don’t work, you get a longer continuous bleep when reverse is selected. Back to:- if you have 12v to the module, then chances are one or more sensors have gone. Which one? 2 mins of diagnostics. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Sean, The simplest way forward is not to concern yourself with where it’s from, but to drive back to whoever did the accident repair, and ask them to sort it for you. If you don’t fancy driving to where it was repaired, you could input the visible part number in a website such as LLL Parts, and you may find the answer there. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on with either of those suggestions Sean. Kind regards, Gareth.

Good morning David, Welcome, and good to hear about the new car. Re. front sensors:- I find it strange that Audi have gone to the expense of fitting sensors (rather than say blanks) into a front bumper, if it wasn’t built with front sensors - Audi want to extract c£120 out of our wallets if we want to buy one sensor off the shelf. If it were mine, I would be checking the build record from the VIN ( dealer Parts Dept. should help via. a visit rather than a phone call). It’s worth keeping in mind that even if a Sport is not normally equipped with them, it’s alway possible that they were specified with them at the build. Kind regards, Gareth.
