  1. Welcome Stefan, Have you Googled ‘ Car audio specialists’ in your area? Kind regards, Gareth.
  2. Hello Robert, Back to first principles:- Was it built with Keyless entry? Answer will lie at your main dealer, if you go in with your V5. Talking nicely with the Parts chap should provide you with a build record for your VIN. I would not attempt this over the phone - needs a visit in person. Kind regards, Gareth.
  3. Hello Paul, Welcome, thanks for joining, and sorry to read of your issue. To attempt to answer/ explain some the points you have raised. Is a clutch assembly classed as a (fair) wear and tear item? Yes. Is it unreasonable that a (10 year old) 56K car should suffer clutch wear? - I would say debatable, since this car has averaged only 5.6K/a, suggesting that it has been used on short journeys where the clutch is likely to have been used far more than say an example which has covered twice that mileage on much longer runs - hence it will have worn more despite its low mileage. I’m in the same camp as Cliff, and unfortunately I feel you might have quite a legal task on your hands to make a claim for this, but…… ‘Took it in for a service…’ Where Paul? Main dealer, independent, local garage? Have you sort a second opinion - say at an independent Audi specialist? If not, that would be my first port of call. Are you hearing, or have you heard any noise from this flywheel? Perhaps you could come back to us Paul. Kind regards, Gareth.
  4. Seems daft that it hasn’t sold Steve. Having said that, I offered a new Audi cambelt kit on here some time ago, and no one seemed interested. If I were you, I’d list it on EBay, where you are likely to get more reaction. Kind regards, Gareth.
  5. L.A. - a long way from Essex, and why is your desktop coming up with that? Sounds as troublesome as the car Jonathan is thinking about!
  6. I must qualify this by making it clear that I’m not certain on this, so please do your own checking and searching. I’ve been told by someone in the battery supply business, that Lion batteries will now be supplied under the Starline brand, so if you are considering buying a Starline battery, you may (in caps) be buying a Lion battery. Whatever, please do your own digging for detail. Kind regards, Gareth.
  7. Thanks Gill, Make of battery? - as a matter of interest? Kind regards, Gareth.
  8. Hello Gary, 2006 been-in-the-family-from-new, now showing 175K miles. Kind regards, Gareth.
  9. Hello George, I’ve amended ‘values’ to valves. It’s more complicated than with petrol engines. Have you looked up any You Tube presentations on this ? Kind regards, Gareth.
  10. Hello Hugo, If you have read the recommendations mentioned in the posts, and you still don’t know what to do, then your best option is to take the car to a trusted diesel specialist - rather than an ‘ordinary’ garage. Kind regards, Gareth.
  11. Regrettably, Jon never did update us from over 6 years ago. Probably well worth following the advice given through this thread, and perhaps you can keep us up to date Hugo. Kind regards, Gareth.
  12. Hello Keith, I think a high % of folks who want to do that, do so via. the DIY route. Suitable paints should be available from EBay sellers, or via. a Google search, and I’d be surprised if there aren’t appropriate You Tube videos on the subject - inc. guides on the necessary preparation procedures. Don’t want to DIY it-? Kind regards, Gareth.
  13. Thanks Steve, Very interesting and enlightening background. So it seems my off putting comments ( for this particular example) would be inline with a current ‘knock the brand’ view in the States-? A hello again Jonathan, I can see you have returned to the forum a few hours ago, but are not commenting on the opinion you have received to date. Apologies if my, Steve Q’s and Allan’s offputting views, were not what you were hoping for, and of course, the only view that really matters is the one that you hold - hence my interest in how you now feel about its purchase. Perhaps you could let us know. Kind regards, Gareth.
  14. Where have you looked so far Neil?
  15. Still pondering on this Jonathan?
  16. Hello Steve, I’ll try to answer some of your questions:- Engine oil? - always used VAG’s own brand - Quantum ( Longlife 3) bought at competitive prices from reputable EBay sellers. Check viscosity grade you require (5w/30?) and specification within grade. Oil filter? Mann or Bosch if not using Audi - again off EBay,and often from Parts in Motion on there. Spark plugs? Yes, I go with NGK. Brake discs? I tend to go with Brembo - again usually from P in M. I don’t buy any parts on price, and certainly not on a ‘that’s good enough’ principle. I aim to buy good quality at most competitive prices from reputable companies. Painting brake calipers ? Not for me - too tarty, but everyone to their own. Perhaps you could let us know whether any of the above is useful. Kind regards, Gareth.
  17. Did you get any further with this Joy?
  18. Did you get any further with this Kerry?
  19. Any answers for us yet Gill?
  20. Welcome Chris, and thanks for joining. Could you let us know whether you are looking to replace the original (Concert-I think) set up with something different, or don’t you currently have anything fitted? Kind regards, Gareth.
  21. Thanks Grant, Number plate agencies normally value plates at a ‘return to you figure’, but advertise them at a higher price which adds on their commission. Not quite sure with ‘Plate-trader’ who I haven’t heard of, so I wonder if their £280 is their selling price -? Good luck with finding it a good home. Kind regards, Gareth.
  22. Hello Benn, Wondered whether you have decided what your preference is with the timing belt alternatives-? Kind regards, Gareth.
  23. Hello Michael, Thanks for joining and posting your advert. Couple of things:- Since this is an open forum, I have removed your telephone number and altered the ‘contact’ wording to ‘…..PM me……’. Price you want for the car please Michael? - as opposed to perhaps ‘offers’. Kind regards, Gareth.
  24. Price please Grant? - as opposed to perhaps offers. Many thanks, Gareth.
  25. Hello David, Is your fan working or not? Kind regards, Gareth.
