Hello Mel, Have you done a Google search for what you are looking for, as well as checking EBay listings? Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Thanks David, Yes, bad news in some respect, but at least you will appreciate that reuniting the original number is more a dream, rather than an aim, since you state you couldn’t afford it even if were offered to you. - so a pointless quest really-? It sounds like you are now fully conversant with the fact that prewar bread-and-butter cars are dropping like stones, so I would repeat - spend as little as possible on it, particular if you could not afford to buy the numberplate if offered. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Do you know who supplied the car new in Chester?
-
OK, so it’s back to a question of should I sell it to WBAC for (around) £600 - cater for it to be lower on inspection, or break for parts? Break for parts, if you are prepared to remove parts on demand, have the car in bits on the drive or whatever, advertise the parts, the get fed up and ask the local scrappy to come and take it. No brainier - as the say - in my book. Just take whatever and run.

Any of this any good to you David?

Thanks Pete, What is a ‘hall’ sensor? Looks like you now need an electronic ignition specialist supplier for parts - worth Googling. There is the Distributor Doctor in West Country or was it Wiltshire? Almost certain to be too earlier for his normal points and condenser type, but he maybe a good source of advice on who to contact - very knowledgeable chap. Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks Neil, Very much a guessing game since we don’t have any idea of material type, dimensions etc. Kind regards, Gareth.

2017 (B9) A4 Avant 2.0 TDi S-Line Special Edition

Thanks Allan, ’…given that I don’t hang about..’ , ‘… I tend to get on…’ , ‘ ….driving at 60mpg ( the legal limit) on a damp road …. ‘ some idiot pops out of a side road… ‘ -all of this points me conclude that you drive ‘enthusiastically’, and I don’t think anyone would recommend budget tyre as being suitable for you. Kind regards, Gareth. -
Thanks Roger, but irrespective of whether it’s getting fuel or not, it hasn’t got a spark at the plugs. Pete- do you have a wiring diagram for the car? Guess this car should come the period when Haynes manuals were published. You have obviously spent money so far without success. To avoid further unnecessary expense, I would now consider employing the services of a trusted local auto electrician. Perhaps you can keep us updated. Kind regards, Gareth.

Whining noise increasing with road speed - 40 TFSI
Magnet replied to Shells's topic in Audi A4 (B9) Forum
Thanks for the update Shelley. Did you approach the CAB after? Sounds like the dealer is employing delaying tactics. Kind regards, Gareth. -
Thanks Chris, Understand, but this is where the seller’s interpretation of ‘high tensile’ becomes the all important factor when using (probably made in China) replacements, - quotes of tensile strength may be questionable - and that is before we get into threaded and unthreaded lengths. If it were mine, I would stick with what you’ve got, or ideally buy replacements direct from VAG. Yes, I understand comparable prices, but would I want to find out HT replacements were not HT after all, and one of them parts company? No, too chancy. Kind regards, Gareth.

Value to We Buy and Car?

Hello Iby, I guess you have worked out/taken advice on the correct width and profile (very low) you will need to retain the correct rolling diameter of these large wheels - ? Kind regards, Gareth.

Brand of parts used Paul?
-
Thanks Steve, I think if the OP reads the responses to the searched-for posts, he may find they were fitted but are just not working, but he needs to establish that first. Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Thanks Fiona, A lot of money? Yes. Cheaper than I would have thought from Audi? Yes. What sort of price are you thinking of paying? £600 divided by the hoped for 5 additional years service, equates to £120 a year - not bad? Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Hello ‘J’ (real name?). Have you carried out a simple search on the forum? Recent post with the same question. Kind regards, Gareth.

Link doesn’t work for me. Diagnosing noises without having the car to examine is very much a black art, and falls under the heading of guessing! I suggest you book this in with a trusted local independent - without delay. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello David, As you say, BMA 139 is currently on a 2019 A5 with probably 50k miles on it now. May have been placed on the car as recent as Feb. of this year, or the car may have changed hands at this time. Sorry Cliff, DVLA will no longer pass on correspondence. Regrettably David, there is a hard set of economics to contend with here, and buying the number back would probably cost you a significant chunk of the car’s value, and would not be an economic proposition. I take it you bought it after the number had been sold, and a previous owner has reaped the benefits. What I would say, with plenty of experience of dealing with cars of this age, is to keep in mind that the value of bread and butter pre war cars is plummeting, mainly due to those who were interested in them having fallen out of the tree and the demand is on its knees. Ask me how I know!! I would be wary of spending too much on this car, since regrettably the (even DIY) outlay is likely to render it uneconomic. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. BMA 139 would have been registered in Chester around August 1934.

Hello Fiona, Where is the £600 new quote coming from, and how does that compare with Audi’s estimate? ‘….totally unrealistic……..’ Have you had a quote for removing old and fitting replacement, and are you also catering for some new bushes and probably suspension links which are likely to need replacing. Take it we are talking rear rather than front subframe -? Kind regards, Gareth.

Simple things first:- New battery coded to car? Make of new battery as a matter of interest?

Hello again Fiona, Seems you are still chasing the secondhand route then. Do you intend to investigate the IM Axles route? Figures:- Ford KA from IMA, with heavier duty spring pads was less than £200. Ford price c£1400. If you are going secondhand then I’m struggling to see how a part number will be the answer to the maiden’s prayer, since it’s highly unlikely that the part number will have survived as a readable number on the secondhand part you are intending to buy - so what good is it to you? Only possible scenario where it could be useful would be where the seller (scrap yard?) has access to part numbers via. a VIN enquiry. In which situation- he inputs your VIN and obtains your subframe part no. then does the same with the breaking vehicle, and compares the two for compatibility - in which case he doesn’t need you to tell him! Secondhand? You buy one and yours is removed and it’s found the replacement isn’t identical - what then?? I think it was Stevey Y on here who referred to a part number retrieving website called LLL?? Am I right? Is it still operating? Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Welcome and thanks for joining Fiona, Secondhand subframes?? - you could end up buying your own! Have you tried IM (I think) Axles. They manufacture new subframes for some vehicles - Audi A3-? but certainly worth investigating? We have bought from them for a family member’s Ford, and the quality is better than Ford’s original, and at a snip at the price. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth.

Please come back to us when you can be bothered to fill in your profile properly. Come on Audi quality joke, are you trying to have a joke on us, on a weekend and requesting free advice, without so much as a please or thank you, and you can’t even be bothered to spend anything more than the minimum effort to ask. Not on! Perhaps I should point out that my reaction is far from our normal style on here, but….

Welcome Vanfan. Do I believe that is your name? No , - even a small amount of wisdom would direct me to question that pretty obvious one, but….! Wales? Big place is Wales, but if you are within travelling distance of Jack Smith Trimmers at Swansea, then it could be worth while making contact re. your dropped rear window. If you aren’t, then I’ll leave it to you to Google suitable assistance in your locality. Perhaps you would keep us posted of how you get on Vagfan. Kind regards, Gareth.
