  1. Hello Melissa, Thanks for joining and sorry to hear of your plight. If you bought it within the last 30 days, then you can reject the car and be fully reimbursed. I would anticipate that even if you bought it more than 30 days ago, you should have redress if you reported the fault within the 30 days. Did you accept the first available booking in date given to you by the Audi dealer? Apologies, for another question - Did you buy it from an Audi dealership? If so then I believe you should have a 90 day warranty, so they have to repair it to your satisfaction. The fact that you have finance on the car is to your advantage, since they obviously have an interest/ obligation. I would suggest you book an appointment with CAB to aid your case.   3. Hello Nolan, and welcome. On a general note:- Has the vehicle been advertised with service history, and if so, have you been in touch with a local main dealer and requested copy of the service print out - via. the reg. no.? Have you viewed the on-line MOT history? Have you viewed the on-line DVLA Vehicle check, and noted the issue date of the latest V5? Recent issue date might ( in caps) suggest the last owner has had it for a short period - obviously not a good sign. Kind regards, Gareth.
  4. Heel Tony, Moll are German made batteries and were (as you now know) were, and still may be, OE suppliers to VAG. Having said that, I recall there were some within-warranty issues with some of them some 3 to 4 years ago, so yours has done remarkably well to last 10 years. As you probably know, the 69aH value denotes the battery’s capacity, and the 680amp, is the current it is able to generate under cold cranking conditions - it’s CCA rating. Upshot - you are looking for a replacement where the values match or exceed these values. Type will be AGM or EFB. If you are going to buy from Tayna, it might be worth going back to them and ask for confirmation that the Exide they supply will be equal to or better than your current Moll. ‘Reliable garage to carryout the installation’…….I take it that will include coding the battery to the car, as opposed to just fitting.   6. ‘No rodent problem there’ then. So the explanation is that you took your own mouse on a holiday to the garage and he was happy enough not chewing your wires when the car was at your home. He gets bored with his existence at the garage and really misses your home, so in his boredom, he decides to have his own back and chews your wiring. How’s that for a plausible explanation!?   8. Thanks Jamie, so nothing wrong with the current one, you just want to wake up the neighbours! I take it you have Googled ‘performance exhaust systems’ and come up with a list of possibles. Not my line of experience, but you may indeed find that you may struggle to find a system for the 1.0 litr due to the low demand resulting in it not being worth suppliers tooling up to make a limited number.   11. Thanks Paul, and welcome. I believe the Audi part number you want is the 4G8…. number. It has been said that the suffice letter on the end - A in your case isn’t significant, but personally I would be reluctant to accept say B, which further guidance. Kind regards, Gareth.

  13. The reason why Nigel?? The recently bought bit probably has something to do with it due to the possibility of vehicle standing with little use - on forecourts etc. Solution:- Renew discs and pads. You should find some competitive prices for quality Brembo parts from reputable sellers on EBay. Of course, you could just ignore the slightly reduced braking efficiency, and change them when the pads next need changing. How much pad thickness do you have left Nigel? Kind regards, Gareth.
  14. Many thanks for the update. I did mention the possibility of harness damaged twixt body and tailgate - which they eventually found. Rodent damage:- Probably mice, possibly living at the repair garage-? We are living in a rural area, and a near neighbour has had some wiring and diesel pipe damaged by mice. Apologies to those who are sensitive about these things ( you can pick up Xenon’s bill) but I keep bait boxes near to the drive. They will still probably prefer the comfort of a vehicle rather than the bait. Not many love rats, and mice are thought to be nice and cuddly. Mice are incontinent, rats aren’t.   15. Probably about a quarter of a litre Alex. Probably stating the obvious, but always check the oil on level ground after the car has stood for at least a couple of hours - ideally first thing in the morning before starting the car. Simply add a small quantity - gauged by where the measured level is, in relation to full and min. levels. Wait 5 mins and recheck, and add another very small amount to bring to full level if necessary. How often to you check the level Alex, and what mileage are you covering before you find the level has dropped? Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Kevin, To cut to the chase, unless you have an overriding ( in caps) sentimental attraction to this car, any restoration will wreck your bank balance, and probably break your heart - and the bank balance bit would be assuming you are DIYing it rather than getting specialists to do the work. Harsh, but believe me it’s true - been there done it with a couple of classic cars. An alternative:- keep searching for a low mileage example and buy that oven-ready, much cheaper than you could renovate your for. Kind regards, Gareth.
  17. Thanks for posting Alex. They always seem to suggest leaving the oil reach the min. level before topping up to the full mark. I now sure how long you have had the car, to be able to judge it’s oil consumption, but I would suggest checking it at least once a week until you know how much it is consuming (if significant) over say 1K miles. Once you know the consumption, you can tailor you checking to suit. Personally, I never have waited until the level drops to the minimum on any car I have owned, but top it back up to the full mark when it’s say halfway twixt full and low. Correct oil? The handbook will tell you, and I’d be surprised if it wasn’t 5w/30 grade - to the correct VAG specification. I always buy Quantum Longlife 3 ( VAG’s owned brand name) - once blended by Castrol, but now by Fuschs. Available from a number of EBay sellers, or now on Amazon as well. Kind regards, Gareth.

    This where Alex is likely to have as many varying opinions as responses! Family member had a Hankook fitted to his KA a couple of years back. Comparatively rapid tyre wear despite sedate driving. Kind regards, Gareth.
  19. Strange, but as far back as a couple of decades ago, factors seem to have stopped supplying coolant hoses. This situation may well still apply?? Try Audi Parts Direct at Cardiff for some possible discount. They do mail order. Part of Mon Motors, which were Cardiff Audi. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Tony, I feel I’m getting to the point of keeping on here, and it could just be me, but ‘……I will look up a garage with trained mechanics…. ‘ You must obviously chose to go wherever you want, but trying to qualify your statement - if it were mine, it would read ‘…..I will look up an independent VAG specialist ……’.   24. You are very welcome Tony, but you do seem to be making a bit of a complicated job of this - ‘ I will carry on searching…’. Just pick up the phone on Monday, ring a local independent and ask for a cost to code in a new battery. ‘Thimble’ as our little stand up beings would say! ‘A garage to supply and fit…’? They will fit the best-deal-to-them-motor factor battery. Would you be happy with that? Anyway, this is getting a bit repetitive. Kind regards, Gareth.
  25. OK Tony, so the Exide is out of stock at this supplier - there are others, such as Battery Magastore, etc. and which can be found on a Google search. Yuasa? A freelance neighbour mechanic commented some years ago about the predominance of used Yuasa batteries at garages he visited, so he wasn’t impressed, but things may well be different now. Re. ‘I do not know what to do…..’ ? I think the forum has given you advice on alternative suppliers for batteries, so you are now armed to decide what you want to buy. You have been advised that the new battery is likely to need coding. We have suggested that you make contact with a local independent, to confirm that and to quote you for coding. As I see it Tony, you are now armed with a plan to enable you to move forward to make a decision - I now don’t know what else we can do. Kind regards, Gareth.
