Thanks Aaron, So there’s nothing very exclusive about the ‘Exclusive’ anymore then. Perhaps except the fact that they exclude every colour you request - good isn’t it! Kind regards, Gareth.

Many thanks Stephen, I think your family experiences sums up the sacrifices made by those family members who have gone before us in ‘recent’ times, and the debt of gratitude we owe to them for the life we are currently able to enjoy. That gratitude can in a little way be acknowledged by a simple ‘Thank you’. I’m old, and have gone through the decades where you were firmly told off if you didn’t say ‘thank you’. Sadly, those two important words seem to be lost in our current daily vocabulary, and their use might even be seen as a sign of weakness. This forum, and many many more by what I can see, suffers from a lack of acknowledgement for advice and help given, so why don’t we make this day a ‘Thank you’ day, and think about getting into the habit of using it again the day after - it really doesn’t hurt! Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Lancaster bombers:- I had the privilege to be able to stand under the cockpit of one of these many years ago - you need a ladder to get into it. Unbelievable. I had to do some research about the Water Orton district a couple of years ago, and talked to a knowledgeable inhabitant of that area and he had interviewed descendants of those involved in the build and trials, and he informed me that you could loop-the-loop in them! Blinking heck.

That would be Admiral ! then Johnny. Well done. Keep ticking over and counting the marbles. The general consensus is that us folks don’t have any left to count. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Randell, Regrettably, but as seldom happens, we never did have an update. Have you changed your thermostat!? Kind regards, Gareth.

Who was the £880 with Johnny? Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Dale, Welcome, and thanks for joining. Let’s see if we can help you by directing you to EBay and searching for ‘2019 Q2 exhaust pressure sensor’. You should come up with a variety from no-name brands, and some suppliers selling Bosch or Febi etc. I never buy sensors on price, so I buy Bosch, Febi, or similar from reliable suppliers. Wouldn’t have thought they would be that expensive, whereas ‘genuine Audi’ would be. I’m not at all surprised that Audi won’t give you the part number - they generally don’t on the mainland either, since they know you will buy aftermarket. EBay sellers will always confirm suitability - but Channel Islands registration may hamper this a bit. Where the part is located -? That would be the joy of buying from Audi, since they usually then supply you with the parts diagram. Tried You Tube? Perhaps you could let us know how you get on Dale. Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks Johnny, Apologies but still not following the ‘broke down the following day…’ ‘Never needed heads until til last few weeks..’ We take it it’s now OK and it’s no longer losing coolant. Re. headlight adjustment: OK don’t drive it in the dark, but you will need to get this sorted before it’s next MOT in February. Kind regards, Gareth.

What year is the RS Paul? Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Hello Malachy, Your question ‘…….can I get away with it ….? is really unanswerable, since it depends on who MOT tests the car - not any opinion on here. That tester will answer your question with a fail or a pass! My view is that you, and any other 80 owner will know they should be fitted, and it’s not making much sense to me why you wouldn’t want to spend an extra couple of hours and properly finish the good job you seem to be doing. Just one person’s view Malachy, but the decision is obviously yours to make, and no one else’s. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Sebastian, Welcome to the forum, and sorry to hear about you ongoing issue. Logic would suggest that all the discs and pads just cannot be faulty. My stab at it:- Sticky callipers and/or slider pins. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Paul, From family member’s experience this year, to avoid surprise, double last year’s premium and knock a £100 or so off, and that’s about it. No doubt other members will be along and point out that theirs haven’t increased much, but I think there has been enough media hype to warn us all. What I’ve found is that the variation in the cheaper end of the comparison site quotes is not what it used to be - suggesting a cartel-? As you point out, the quoted ‘vehicle value’ would be insufficient to allow you to replace the vehicle like for like. ‘….50 next year……’ Wait until you clock 80, then you will feel the pain of premium increases! Kind regards, Gareth.

Where did you buy the parts from Elis? Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Wayne, Welcome to the forum, and many thanks for joining. Although your post came as a little surprise - some 18 months on - it’s disturbing to hear that the issue with these tyres continues. I don’t think there is much more that we can now add to whatever has already been said, and surprisingly there doesn’t seem to have been much evidence of any satisfaction from attempts to deal with Dunlop, and as far as I know - and I could well be very much ill informed on this- nothing in the motoring press or media to highlight the dangerous issue. Sorry, I cannot offer you experience of any alternative make, but let’s hope some forum members will soon be along with some help for you. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Johnny, Sorry to hear you are having issues:- Could you tell us when you bought the car? When did you report the totally excessive coolant consumption? Did the seller make any attempt to rectify the problem, and has that problem now been solved or not? Headlights - When was the car last MOT’d? Let us have some answers Johnny, and perhaps we can offer you some advice. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Paul, Welcome, and thanks for joining. Try doing a Google search for ‘Classic Car Trimmers’ in your area. Let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Peter, In addition, and with simple things first, have you checked the new belt against the old belt - take it it is still intact ? Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. I seem to have fallen into the trap of responding to a 4 year old thread!

Thanks Hamza, Mechanic…, ‘……new water pump was so good it cleared the pipe and created a clog’. Sorry to be blunt, but what a load of rubbish! Kind regards, Gareth

Silica bag in coolant - does this affect C8 A6/S6?

Pardon my ignorance Mr. F, but where is MOB? -
Hello Russell, I would be surprised if it’s not an AGM battery, so if you are going down the road of buying a charger to top it up, then it would be false economy not to buy the proper ‘intelligent’ charger which would be necessary to charge any now-normal AGM battery in the future - not so cheap. If it were mine, I would just ignore the low warning light if the car is going to be used for a reasonable daily journey - if it starts, it starts. When it doesn’t - you are in trouble. It maybe worth pointing out that inefficient batteries are likely to start throwing up other warning lights - until you get to the stage of a ‘Christmas tree warning light’ display. Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Hello Russell, Sounds a classic case of a failing battery, and yes, you could trickle charge it with a bought- in charger, but the battery is going to let you down sooner than later. Do you know how old the battery is? If it were mine, I would be investing in a new good quality battery before the weather gets much colder. I’ve recently bought Exide batteries at very competitive prices from Tayna Batteries. Just go on EBay and find their listings, send them a message with your reg. no. and they will confirm suitability. You could go to their website and do it that way, but they are likely to quote you for their (generally more expensive) Enduroline. They are usually postage free on EBay, and sometimes code SAVES8 gets you an extra 8% off. Highly likely the new battery will need coding to the car. I never buy batteries on price, and always go for brands with 4 or 5 year warranties, since these vehicles are highly dependent on efficient batteries. Perhaps you could let us know what you think Russell, and how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Mike, Did you buy this as a genuine VAG part? If so, it’s usual that the gasket is available as a separate part. Even if it is an aftermarket part, I think the only positive way forward would be enquire about a gasket by visiting your nearest Audi dealer Parts. Dept. Perhaps you can come back to us with an update. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Aaron, Pardon my ignorance, but by ‘Exclusive’ does that actually mean you can chose any (in caps) non-standard colour? Appreciating that would be a tall order, but I feel I have to ask. Kind regards, Gareth.
-
Hello Colin, We had Haynes workshop manuals in the U.K., and these were very comprehensive and well illustrated, and likely to have been in publication to cover 1997. It would be well worth doing a search on EBay U.K. Appreciate these are proper book manuals and postage might be substantial, but at least you should be able to get a copy. Good luck and kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Aaron, Where did you find this photo? Kind regards, Gareth.

So now you had 40 + 60 Nm = 100Nm pre angle torque. Now you have. 30 + 50 Nm = 80 Nm pre angle torque. Um …?
