I shall again be taking part in the service at my home village to mark the sacrifice made by my grandfather who gave his life at the age of 21, and everyone else who has given their lives lives, or been affected by conflict. I shall utter a totally inadequate ‘Thank you’, and a separate thank you that I and my family have been so fortunate in being spared the affects of any conflict. That ‘Thank you’ will again be utmost in my mind as we again take part in today’s two minutes silence, but an equal thank you will be said in silence to all those who have helped me and my family in any small way, so that we have been able to conduct our lives as we wish. For me, I feel the use of a ‘Thank you’ on every occasion someone does you even the most modest of kindnesses is still one of the most useful phrases that can be used, and just dilutes any conflict. Take care all and hopefully please take the opportunity of using that phrase before returning to bed today. Best wishes and kind regards, Gareth and family.
  2. Thanks David, Last thing first - no disrespects, if you are asking how/where to charge a battery, then just close the bonnet before you engage in anything you wish you hadn’t started! Just don’t attempt it. Apologies for questions:- Can we take it your vehicle is equipped with stop start? If so, does the battery say anything like AGM or stop/start, S/S on it anywhere? Do you know if the RAC or anyone else coded the new battery to your vehicle? You shouldn’t (and I wouldn’t anyway) book the car into Halfords (Autocentre). Their retail shops should be able to check battery efficiency on a walk-in arrangement. Varta is a prime make of battery. Made for RAC suggests it could be manufactured down to a price -? RAC and warranty. There is far more to a battery’s efficiency than simply voltage. Let us know how you get on with getting it checked. Kind regards, Gareth.

Halfords should be able to do that at one of their shops pre. your book-in. This could save you a considerable amount of money. Make of battery - as a matter of interest? Kind regards, Gareth.

Hello Bob, If it were mine, I would be wrapping a length of single core flex around the pulley (and tensioner?) run you want to modify it to, and measure that length. You can then refer to a Gates (or other manufacturer’s ) catalogue for a belt as close to that length and of the number of ribs you have. Kind regards, Gareth.

    Run Flats?

    Thanks Gary, If there is a spare wheel well (and you can easily check this) then it should be possible to buy a spare wheel ‘kit’ for it, which will include the ‘temporary’ spare wheel, the jack and the wheel brace - all at a price! If you are cost conscious then you might well pick up these items at a vehicle breaker. No spare wheel well? Then I would think you will just have to accept the situation as it is, or make room in the trunk, which I guess is already restricted, being a convertible. Kind regards, Gareth.

    Run Flats?

    Welcome to the Audi Owners Club ! Good to have you onboard. Hello Gary, Run flats?? Obviously their supreme benefit is to ensure the car remains as safe as it can be in the event of a tyre deflation. However, the trade off is a much harsher ride due to the sidewall reinforcement, and you have to live with this mile on mile, until you hopefully ( don’t) need them. Question is, do you really want run-flats for their inherent safety, and are you prepared to sacrifice the ride trade off? Or do you want run-flats, simply to avoid the inconvenience of attending to the tyre at the point of deflation? Some models still retain the space for a space-saver spare wheel - not sure about yours - and this can be purchased along with a jack and wheel brace - as they used to be!   9. Hello Damon, Have a search for ‘Brake servo Restricted’ and see if there are any similarities there. May/may not be associated. Think it was a multi page thread. Fuse location? Your handbook should clarify. Apologies for being pessimistic, but I don’t buy into the suspicion that blown fuses are the cause of failures in electrical circuits. Circuits are fused to protect the circuit, so they only blow for a reason, and if blown, that reason has to be found, rather than just replacing the fuse. Hope you can get it sorted with minimum damage to your wallet. Perhaps you can let us know how you get on Damon. Kind regards, Gareth.

  11. Hello Carl, As your title - the amber light does indicate an issue with the air suspension, although as you know, being amber, it would be considered OK to drive. Fault possibilities? Failing compressor, leak, level sensors etc.?? Does the light stop flashing if you stop the car after a few minutes driving, switching off and re-starting? If this were mine I would be looking up Bagpiping Andy ( find via. EBay and probably more searches). He is very clued up on all air suspension issues, and started off manufacturing piston rings for the compressor ( common issue), but has now expanded to deal with most issues air suspension-wise. Hello Trace, That question is impossible to answer, since it could be as a result of a parasitic drain in any one of the electrical circuits. Knowing how long it takes to run your battery down would give a guide to the degree of parasitic drain. Before we suggest any course of action:- Do you have an electrical multimeter, and are you competent with using it? If the answer to those is yes, what is the maximum current the meter will handle?   14. Thanks Turlough, Not sure about VAG printing them on labels 26 years ago. I’m more inclined to think they would have stamped the detail on aluminium plates as most other manufacturers did then - but I could be wrong. Kind regards, Gareth.

  16. Hello Gary, Welcome and thanks for joining. While we wait for some responses:- Do you have a handbook, and have you looked there? EBay is a good source for such things, but you may find Audi produced a different book for the convertible. A very interesting guessing post Gary! First button - possible isolator for interior movement alarm when car is parked and the hood up -otherwise might expect issues in windy conditions if the hood flexes??? Anymore silly guesses? Sorry, and certainly not wanting to disagree with Steve’s comment, but just to add another school of thought, and that would be that if anything is making a noise, then it’s trying to tell you something, and it should be investigated.   18. Hello David, Welcome and thanks for joining. You are in grave danger of kissing goodby to your Audi’s warranty on your one year old car, by attempting to service the car yourself. I’m not sure if you own the car outright, or have it on something like a PCP, but whatever, the car will be deemed to have incomplete service history, and will be devalued accordingly. Sorry to point out that if you don’t know what oil to use, then you are not in a good place to start anyway. Adblue from Aldi’s? Same principle applies if you have to argue any warranty.   20. Many thanks Colin. Good point, and one which we have promoted as a ‘first port of call’ for all warning light issues. One point I would add is that although recharging the battery will probably sort the issue, that resolution maybe relatively short lived, and indicative of a failing below par battery, which needs renewing - or at least subjecting to an efficiency check.   22. Many thanks again Steve, Sounds a good idea to pair them. As you probably know, Kumho are mid range. Presa ?? Probably Chinese best, but let’s not condemn them since they are like new. I would just be rather cautious in the wet. Incase it helps, I too set mine to 30 psi all around - 35 is too high in my book, even if fully laden. Again from my experience, I’ve always fitted Michelin, with an odd skirmish with Continental. In fact, I need to treat ours to a new set, but find Michelin ( same size as yours) are now over £100. I did look at Uniroyal Rainsport 5 when they were £70 each last month - fully fitted with Kwik Fit. Now they are listing then at £85! Camskill have them on supply-only at a very good price. Wondered what the experienced view on here might be about them- ? Another thing worth checking since you have the mix on the same axle at the moment is whether either the Kumho or Presa is an XL tyre? This could make a handling difference if one is and one isn’t.     Many thanks Tony, It’s not April 1st already is it? (1) Never heard of a weight limit in a car park ( unless access might be over a weight limited bridge). (2) How on earth would a car park attendant know the weight of an E Tron? Kind regards, Gareth.
  25. Many thanks for coming back on this, and reassuring us that you are a ‘steady’ driver! Another important point I forgot to mention was the effectiveness of the rear ( in particular) shock absorbers. This can make a significant difference to the car’s handling. Come on Steve share with us the pressures you have set the car on, and as Cliff suggests as well- the makes of each tyre and the amount of remaining tread. Rushing off and renewing them would not be my priority ( possibly will change this view when you tell us what you have on there now) until other suspects are eliminated. Kind regards, Gareth.
