  1. That's good news Alun. I suggest you do not mention your electrical modifications in case the dealer uses them as an excuse to void the warranty.
  2. Well that's a new use of the term pinch bolt for me, so sorry if I distracted you. The pinch bolts I am familiar with were used at one time to clamp cables to round battery posts. They are also widely used in engineering for locking sliding rods and the like in one position.
  3. To my mind that proves they are con men. I fear your only redress is court action, though it's likely they will vanish as soon as a summons is served.
  4. Take it back to whoever repaired the mechatronic. I presume there is a guarantee on the work.
  5. That does not look like a pinchbolt to me, nor have I heard of special tools for pinchbolts which normally loosen with a spanner. Are you perhaps referring to the taper ended ball joints for which there are special tools known as ball joint wedges?
  6. Kev. You are making a mountain out of a molehill here. The car needs a new thermostat, no ifs or buts. If you can't fit it yourself get a garage to do it.
  7. Chris. That is not a problem I have heard of until now, so it can not be common. The suggestion of poor grounding, or earthing as we call it here, sounds plausible. Poor grounding is a common problem with lights, causing for example a turn light to illuminate when the brakes are applied. I would look at the mounting of the 12 volt sockets in the first place. If they are mounted with plastic clips into plastic panels then maybe they need an ground wire to the chassis.
  8. Hope you have a battery charger because you are bound to forget to unplug the lighter socket.
  9. Fair enough William. No point in making unnecessary work for yourself. Have you checked that power to the cigarette lighter socket turns off with the ignition? It varies from car to car.
  10. I find it hard to believe any legitimate garage would that. Is it possible you told it to "do whatever it takes to fix", or words to that effect?
  11. Very likely one or more rubber bushes in the rear suspension is soft or disintegrating. It would be worth renewing all of them before getting the rear tracking checked.
  12. Enough! This thread is descending into farce so I am locking it. Clifford Coggin.
  13. Note that some electric cars can be reset by closing and locking the doors for a fixed time before unlocking and trying again. In my Smart EQ that time is 15 minutes, and not a second less or the timer will not allow a reset. It would be worth looking in the handbook for a similar action for your car.
  14. William. Make sure you piggy back onto a fuse that is on a circuit switched by the ignition key, unless your dashcam has a suitable battery within it to maintain power when the car is not running, else it will flatten the car battery.
  15. Ah, the joys of crumbling orange foam and dog hair. One of my wife's previous cars stank of curry as soon as the heating was turned on in winter, and no amount of cleaning by us could get rid of it. A professional valeter eventually found the problem underneath the carpet, which had to be removed for cleaning of its underside. That was £30 very well spent.
  16. Maybe so, but what do you want to get out of the dispute? A grovelling apology? A discount on the price? A full refund? Condemnation from the ASA? Your answer should dictate the action you take.
  17. While you could involve the ASA, that alone would not resolve the financial aspect of the matter. You would be better advised to approach the dealer for a refund, but be certain to have incontrovertible proof of the true specification of the car as well as its claimed spec. If the dealer is as big a company as you say there is a good chance it will make you a reasonable offer.
  18. It's your money to spend as you want, but I do not believe the problem is temperature related.
  19. Leigh you won't get a reply from Alan because he has not returned to the forum since the day he joined 18 months ago. I have no doubt your problem is the same as his, namely the failure the seal in the wiper motor. You need a new wiper unit.
  20. Thanks for letting us know.
  21. Now you tell us! Is there any other relevant information you have withheld?
  22. Did your garage present any evidence to support its diagnosis? A print from its diagnostic machine for example? If you really don't trust the garage, take the car elsewhere for a second opinion.
  23. A pity you did not mention all the other work in your first message, though I am still not clear exactly what has been done and what your phone has to do with it. I suggest you get the car scanned on a decent code reader.
  24. That surprises me. Good luck and don't let the traction battery level go too low.
