  1. lovely! mine looked that clean, once :)
  2. Just realised that i have introduced myself but not the car! Here she is, in desperate need of a wash!
  3. pic of your car?
  4. haha, i hear it makes you hungry driving behind me! Yeah, just like normal diesel biodiesel will wax at lower temperatures. the problem is with bio is that temperature is much higher. with bio made from rapeseed i think you're good down to somewhere between -6 to -10 where waxing is concerned but anything below 5 degrees and the fuel will be slightly thicker, hence the couple of cranks required to start. there are winterisers on the market which apparently work really well. other options are to add a %age of petrol of diesel, i;ve done both of these and never had a problem in winter, petrol is better as you need less for the same effect! usually 5% does the trick. 2-ehn is a cetane improve, basically the difference between regular diesel and premium diesel. this helps with cold starts, performance and fuel consumption. per litre it works out to pennies
  5. too right. The EGR valve is there to reduce Nox by returning some of the exhaust fumes in to the air inlet at certain revs. we've all see the exhaust tip of a diesel, do you really want that being run through your air inlet and back in to your engine? the more exhaust gasses returned means less o2, less o2 means lower MPGs. Nox, isn;t the problem these days, its particulates. EGRs create more particulates (soot)! honestly... Blank them, blank them all!!
  6. sorry i forgot to mention. if it does loosen up all that crud, where do you think it will go? hint; that is the air inlet!
  7. Quick update. done around 600 miles so far without a drop of diesel and she's been running like a dream. still spins the wheels up in 3rd when the roads are damp! slight delay in starting when the temps have dropped below zero but i've got some 2ehn on order that should sort that!
  8. welcome Nikki, i'm pretty new here too!
  9. you think some wonder treatment would get rid of all this coked on crud?
  10. egr is pretty easy to get off, only a couple of bolts. as is the inlet manifold. i'd take them both off nd wash with carb cleaner or petrol. having seen how thick the crap gets i would'nt trust any wonder treatment other than elbow grease. teraclean raises the combustion temps (supposedly) and cleans valves and your outlet (exhaust) (apparently), not sure what their write up on it is cleaning the inlet manifold, like. an option to do all of that, after you have scrubbed the built up crap on the inlet side would be to remove the air inlet pipe after the turbo, hold a wall paper stripper near it and allow it to suck the steam in whilst the car is at a good 2.5k revs for half 20 mins or so, final step, blank the EGR valve
  11. dont get a code reader. get a cable off ebay that comes with vag-com or vcds or whatever it is called these days. it'll only be the trial version as the full version is expensive but will be much better than any generic reader. that reminds me, need to get mine ordered
  12. remember, the turbo is sat after the exhaust manifold, not before it. you have 2 'channels'. 1 is air in and out the other is exhaust in and out, they are not joined.
  13. almost there, the mr muscle goes into the outlet only, so, when it spins up it throws the crud straight down the exhaust. the inlet side comes from the air filter all nice and clean.
  14. what engine is it? i typically save myself loads of dosh buying high milers. i got a bargain 530d MSport with circa 150k on it, my old PD passat had 140k on it, my current Audi that i bought at xmas had 145k on it. all lovely motors and gave me no problems .
  15. I have done the Mr Muscle trick myself and know a few others personally that have too with impressive results. it is a proven fix for sticky vanes, there is no denying that. for the record, this is not shooting snake oil down the intake or pouring snake oil into your fuel, this is pumping mr muscle in to the turbo directly and manually pumping the vanes to work it through and loosen all the crud. once you have done it you can see all the built up soot, etc. come out of your exhaust with a good rev! Mate, if you can get a chance, give it a try. if not looks like you've done well to get a new turbo fitted for a good price
  16. Dupe
  17. If you're going to get a diesel go older or newer. Or make sure you get one that has had a rebuild or at least the oil pump sorted. Ignore this advice at your peril lol
  18. A couple for me. Need to get the cambelt and water pump done (boring!). Also planning on getting a 170 turbo and having it remapped again from 180 - 220 ish and considering getting an RS4 style grill to replace the S Line one. would love some new wheels, but doubt i'll have the cash
  19. that does sound like a lot of ad blue. i'd be suspect of an issue potentially causing the DPF to fill quicker than it should.
  20. im not sure what is required is in there as i took a look myself? your situation sounds like mine. my car has bluetooth which i can connect my phone to to make calls from. it doesnt however have the media interface, which i believe is another module in order to control the music app on my phone. i have to use the aux input. i believe you have to buy a module, a new bluetooth receiver, plug it all in and get it coded. but i havent looked into it properly yet!
  21. My experience with ad blue systems is limited. It helps get to temp without dumping extra diesel into the engine. So, oil contamination might not be such a problem for you. If your manual states you can do it stationary then carry on. You don't have a problem really until the light comes on but don't forget the dpf system inherently causes lower mpg in favour of lower emissions. A bit like the EGR valves, reduces NOx but creates more soot, dpf introduced to reduce soot. Both cause lower mpg. The mind boggles. When you get t serviced they can plug the computer in and let you know how full the dpf is and the status of the recent regenerations and whether or not it has been succesful.
  22. You mean dropping the exhaust from the turbo? Might be worth whipping that air pipe off to see if you can see where the EGR pipe attaches to the exhaust manifold above the turbo first. If you can get a mate to help should only take a minute
  23. Tanks for of biodiesel now coming at roughly 25ppl. 400 miles down so far and hopefully many to go! Power doesnt seem affected at all although mpg has dropped but this but this is to be expected. Only other difference is the sweet smell from the exhaust 😂
  24. Fixed it. There's a setting on car settings that I've changed and the boot release now works!
  25. Yeah that looks a pain in the !Removed!. There is bound to be a YouTube video showing the easiest way to get the mr muscle in. Would be a pain if you have to come in from underneath but not the end of the world. Either way you'll need access to the actuator so will likely have to remove those inlet pipes from the back of the engine.
