  1. These things are the spawn of the devil I swear!
  2. Diesel particulate filter. It collects soot around town then burns it off on the motorway. They either use ad blue which is an additive that aids combustion or post combustion injection of diesel. Seeing as you don't know I'd say it doesn't have ad blue! Check the the basics first mate then go from there.
  3. p.s. i think it will be at the back of the engine so could well be difficult to see
  4. ok pal, post a pic of your enjoy bay with the cover removed so we can take a look
  5. Can you add some substance to your problem? What mpg is it doing? How many miles are you getting to a tank and what size is the tank?
  6. Could be related to dieselgate. If it's had the recall the mpg will be shocking. Does it have adblue for the dpf? If not it will be dumping extra fuel in when regenerating the dpf which isn't covered when the official mpg figures are released. My suggestion would be to get it remapped, for economy if that's your main focus or a mixed one for power/economy will still see improvements. There are of course other things. Like filters and sensors, etc. A dodgy temp sensor or maf, etc will affect fuel economy but would likely throw a fault. You could get it plugged in for a check if you don't have the software yourself.
  7. I doubt it will finish a regen susccesfully while stationary. You need 4th or 5th gear up a decent hillly a road or motorway really I personally hate hate the things and got rid of mine soon after buying my car. Have you checked your engine oil level? I'd be wary if it is doing so many regens on short journeys or when stationary.
  8. Top engine cover I mean
  9. I'm genuinely not sure on that engine where the turbo is. First thing I would do is wip the engine cover off and look at the exhaust manifold side of the engine.
  10. You can't just pump the mr muscle in and leave it. You have to pump it into the vanes. But yeah you should be able to do it through the EGR hole on the manifold
  11. I thought the semi auto things didn't pull forward or hold on a hill? (And are made of chocolate) the torque converter style deffo do. But the semi auto things have a real clutch that is pressed until you press the throttle.
  12. can you get someone to test it for you? Pump the actuator by hand. It should move pretty freely. If it doesn't then deffo mr muscle
  13. I would help but too far mate. Is it the same as the one I did where you can remove the pipe to the EGR and pump the mr muscle in from up top?
  14. what type of box is it? a torque converter or manual box with controller type?
  15. a job for when it is warmer and i have the new wiper assembly to fit i think! what you are saying is possible, however on mine the pipe hasn't come off, the jet is just blocked, so the water runs down the outside of the boot lid
  16. so its time to start working through the minor problems my "cheap" audi came with.... starting back to front i have so far found: 1. rear wiper broke, managed to bodge this to get the wiper working, although the jet is still not working, hoping this just needs good clean, but ultimately i need a whole new wiper assembly and jet when funding allows i think... 2. The boot release doesn't seem to work! i can open the boot by holding down the button on the key only. is there a setting for this or something obvious i am missing? or is there a common fault?
  17. to each their own. i'm more happy being able to plug in my laptop when a light comes on the dash and, if necessary, google the issue. then if it turns out to be something i can;t fix myself i can take it to a local garage and get it fixed.
  18. http://www.hyperchips.co.uk/blog/does-egr-valve-removal-cause-mot-failure
  19. sorry i got that wrong, they do probe it too i believe. but still, my point regarding the EGR not affecting it stands.
  20. it certainly is the case for DPFs. even if it is the case for the EGR, you are not removing it, you are blanking it. when you consider what it is doing blanking it will improve your emissions. and don;t forget, the "emissions" test for diesels during the MOT is currently only a smoke test; rev it up, let it idle and look for black smoke. not sure if that is set to change?
  21. and i wouldnt go down the terrraclean route either, ever! a very similar route would be take remove your air inlet pipe, post turbo. get a wall paper stripper, get somoene to hold your car at around 2.5k revs and let it suck steam in to the inlet. give it half an hour or so like this. job done
  22. Ok, my two pence... Firstly, why replace the EGR? all it is doing is sending !Removed! exhaust fumes through your inlet, cough cough. blank it and be done with it! Secondly, why pay £55 for diagnostics. get a cable and Vag-com light off ebay for next to nowt and you'll have enough to find out at least what codes have been stored. Thirdly, if it is the turbo vanes then i'm not sure about your engine, but.. on my Leon that had the pre PD ASV engine the turbo vanes were sticking. i bought a tin of mr muscle and some thin tube and worked it free. it took some doing as had been a problem for a while but it sorted it after a few hours. TIP, dont use your thumb, that soon becomes painful and boring. i managed to find a way to get a massive extension bar on to the actuator and pump it with that.
  23. Yeah she goes well. Much smoother acceleration now than before too. Just need to get used to the extra turbo whistle!
  24. Remap and work all done. Wow!! It's like a different car! Acceleration is phenomenal. Will leave it a couple of weeks to make sure everything is ok then I'll introduce it to biodiesel and let the savings commence!
  25. pump deuse. and yeah if its the 115 it will be. i'm pretty sure all diesels love a good remap to be honest, just go for it! i know the pre-PDs you could get a black smoke remap for like £50 or something, not sure about the PD
