  1. As I understand it the Audi A6 / A7 both have good factory prep and it's not the old days of drill and mount and loom cut and shut (scotchlok) interruptions. Many Audi franchises use contractors to install towbars as they do not have the inhouse experience.
  2. Had to buy in a hurry due to blowout. Went for the Avons - Sat on the rear of the car at the moment so can't comment on Steering but they are quiet, offer ^^rim protection (not that you should rely on it)^^ and sub £120 / corner. I could have saved by going through Black Circles but at 4:50pm choices are limited unless I ran with the space saver for another 24 Hours. Used to swear by Uniroyals but none available on the spot. Have ran Nexans and other "affordable" brands before but found them to be great when new but lose their road manners past half worn.
  3. Colleague had one fitted - non Audi franchise fitted it and cocked up the Air Suspension calibration. Not sure if yours has Air Sus but something to note...
  4. If the clicking stops when cornering then I would say wheel bearing. As the wheel loads up laterally the clicking would stop. Not going to bet on it but used to take cars to smoothest tarmac around and test for bearing noise this way. Could be the bearing cage picking up. not bad enough to feel wheel wobble when shook by hand.
  5. Check the servo first - diaphragm perforated?
  6. Grooved disks?
  7. So on the way home last night - good M-way speed and there is a loud bang, rattle of something around the wheel arch / bucket and then nothing more of note for a mile... I am sat there thinking if a tyre has gone then I will get a warning from the TPMS but as the M-way went to the left there was that ominous shimmy to the right. Made my way to the hard shoulder to find the O/S/R flat. On with the hazard lights, out with the warning triangle and time to acquaint myself with the spare wheel and tolls of the car. Warning triangle is so light and flimsy that every truck passing blew it down the hard shoulder towards me. Got the wheel off to find a perfectly round hole in the profile the size of my little finger. No TPMS warning??!! Got the space saver on and pulled away - 200 yards up the road TPMS pings up a warning. Better late than never I suppose. Now I understand that Audi TPMS works around the wheel rotation using ABS sensors (?) - how in the hell can it not detect an instantaneous deflation is my question? A couple of good points to come out of this experience are-: A: The car behaved well despite the sudden loss of a tyre to the point I did not notice for so long B: I have discovered that the Car will average over 55 MPG in the right circumstances (space saver spare on and cruise at around 60 on M-Way. Ironically on the way into work this morning (2 new boots on the back) and passing the exact location of yesterday's incident and the TPMS goes off again.
  8. I compared many options before choosing Audi including MB and BMW. One big consideration I gave was servicing costs. MB fuel filter service was an eye opener and BMW brake disk prices was another. I nearly brought an early 14 plate BiTurbo A6 Avant - Was not the latest iteration so no sweeping indicators and a lack of other nice to haves such as electric tailgate and heated seats (an option?!) What did have me reaching in my wallet for a while was 313 BHP, 4x4 and a 0-60 time of just over 6 seconds from a car that can carry a wardrobe whilst returning 40 MPG. Go for a test drive - that is what I did and in the end head ruled over heart and I got the 2.0 TD Quattro Auto.
  9. Agree with Tran$porter - The Touch Pads are backlit for button function - the bottom one has preset mechanical buttons.
  10. Hi Jonny, Mine is also 2.0 TDi (190 Auto) - Just over a year old with 13k on the clock. I have to drive quite unsympathetically to get as low as 35 average but do not normally get above 50 on long M-way runs. Normal for me is around 43. I have not noticed that much difference between running the Car in Eco through to Dynamic mode although when set in Eco I am hitting the gas harder at times to make reasonable progress or pulling the box into sport mode. The majority of my miles are M-way but I have noticed quite frequent Regen cycles and this will suck the MPG down - I am wondering if this could be the case with yours. Even when travelling at good speed on M-ways the engine revs stay quite low due to high gearing. This inhibits the DPF to self clean during normal operation (lower heat) causing regens to be called. Note also that regens are called via sensor readings and although a sensor may not be throwing a fault code - it could be out of kilter and confusing the algorithm causing Regens more often. When you pull up does the tickover remain around 1K RPM (no start / stopping) and when engine is switched off do the cooling fans run on for some time?
  11. 1: Audi RS6 2: Bowler LR Defender 3: Morgan +8 4: Aston DB11 5: Lambo Aventador
  12. Hi Dave, Similar fault on A6 C7 Forum... No news on her resolution from her either. Has to be Software or Sensor (does not leave a lot otherwise). Lots of complex algorithms running on dependencies. Hopefully Audi can get to the bottom of things.
  13. From the Movie Good Morning Vietnam: [Lt. Steven Hauk uses Army jargon to refer to a press conference to be given by former Vice-President Nixon] Adrian Cronauer: Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.
  14. I am new around here too - Picked up mine in January having courted VX for many years. These forums are (usually) great for doing the research even before buying. There are some good Audi specialists about that can keep the running costs down and a Chip or Remap should help not only performance but also economy and drivability. Mate had his chipped to around 278 BHP - perpetual acceleration.
  15. Congratulations on the new car Tony. Phone Pairing should be available suprised if it is not but as mentioned before it may not fully support later phones. If you are not happy with the BT support of the car then Parrot seems to be a favoured route. Retro-fit could be prohibitively expensive. If you contact Audi they should be able to give you the original build sheet details for the car from VIN. Lots of the Audi Manuals are available online now - not sure on the integrity of some of the links though... Also Audi will let you know of any Recall and TSB work outstanding. Your engine is of the higher miles club but should be good for a tad more power although in standard form it should be no slouch. 2.7 or 3.0? Condition is very dependant on how well the car has been looked after and driven previously. Do you have the service book for the car? Tom
  16. Hi Tony, I am a newbie around here myself so bear with me. Must say I was a little surprised by the initial responses you got. Pinball is an incredible hobby - colleague at work was very into it before wife and kids syndrome kicked in - Attack From Mars has to be a favourite. Bluetooth (BT) was in its early stages back in 2006 - this is where your challenges will lie - the interface protocol has remained fairly standard since inception but (big but) as Phones have evolved (firmware and features) certain aspects such as Phone Book support may not work. Previous car of mine (not Audi) would not support Samsung S3 Phone Book until after a headunit FW upgrade. Another experience of mine is that just because the Headunit has buttons on it that say Bluetooth, DAB etc - it does not mean the options were ticked at manufacture. Again experience with Audi is limited here and apologies for being a little sketchy but I can only suggest a test drive including trying out BT pairing. Good luck, Tom
  17. Come on peeps - its not that hard is it?
  18. I have replaced individual LED in a tail light cluster for a mate. Fiddly job and not a job you would want to guarantee. Getting into the unit is the biggest challenge. Video link below is for C6 but will give you the gist of it. Challange for LED in Vehicles is vibration and voltage fluctuation. It is easy to overlook what a car goes through as we normally just jump in and turn a key expecting everything to be fine rain or shine.
  19. Cracking tyre wet and dry and at around £115 a corner fitted not bank breakingly expensive. Changed the way my Insignia drove significantly eliminating tracking on overbanding etc. Rainsport3 the latest iteration. Living in the Area of the home of Avon Tyres (Cooper Tires) I should show loyalty to them - have run Avons on Motorcycles for years though. Will consider Avon come the time to change as they are very well reviewed...
  20. Haven't had the pleasure of changing the Tyres on my A6 yet - 245 45 18's but ran same size on previous car and Found Uniroyal Rainsport a cracking option. Colleague used to run them on his A6 and prefered them.
  21. Any update Vanessa? Intrigued to find out what the issue was....
  22. One advantage when buying a car is to not be in too much of a hurry although if the outgoing car is giving notice this is not an option. When I brought my Audi I had the dealer do the looking bringing in a car from another showroom once we had the wish list completed. Some compromising where the car I chose did not have memory package specced but what Audis come with as standard is incredible. My experience with Satnavs are that the inbuilt ones are great compared to dash mount ones from a few years back but with Smart Phone Tech where it is now the built in Nav is not always the best option. Getting a decent Mount for the phone is the challenge.
  23. Hi Vanessa: I don't want to come across as patronising but have you read the manual? The on off button for the Start / Stop is in the row of buttons above the Climate controls, Mine is to the left of the Parking Assist Button. My A6 is a '16 Automatic model and the start stop does not function every time. If you stop at a junction and it is in a condition to stop the engine then you get a green icon on the dash between the dials and the rev counter drops to "ready" (not 0). If stop start is not functioning then the icon between the dash dials will have a strikethrough and be white. When the engine stops look at the rev counter - does it drop to ready? You mentioning pressing the Start button twice would suggest that the car has stopped the engine purposefully and on your first press of the start stop button you have actually "turned of the ignition" with the second press restarting the engine. Is your car auto or manual? With a manual A5 Cab I had on loan it would only stop start when out of gear with clutch released. See link below... https://www.audi.co.uk/glossary/s/start-stop-system.html
  24. Enjoy the New Car - a great feeling.
  25. Just been down your route and wanted to load the payment onto a CC to get the reward points. Dealer I used would only take £1000 on CC due to the Charges they suffer. Your dealer might be more understanding as you are looking to take out Audi finance. I chose not to going for a 3.4% APR deal from a supermarket bank.
