That is true. But it's a trade off. I.e. Diesel=better fuel economy but risk of egr or dpf failure where as petrol=less fuel economy but no risk if egr or dpf failure. I agree though the oil consumption can be a concern. But to be fair my dad has had a 2013 1.6tdi a3 and now has a 2016 Passat 2.0tdi both of which use oil. This came as a surprise as the a6 I'm using which is my dads old car doesn't use any oil (touch wood!) despite covering over 323,000 miles. I don't know about the secret menu but when the car is getting to approx 75% full it will come up with a warning light on the dash. Cheers steve

Hmm, I think tuners should be able to remap it to how it was from the factory. In terms of the emissions update. It will depend if the car your looking at just had the software update or had to have the edition physical parts added such as the dampers and reducers. If it's had these then they would need removing also. The invoice should tell you what it's had done for the emissions update. Vag won't put it back to how it was as it could be seen as them still trying to cheat Emissions if that makes sense. Cheers steve

Iv worked both in vehicle sales and Volkswagen service department and I would advise you to buy a petrol for the type of driving your doing. The reason I say that is because the Diesel engine won't get up to a decent operating temperature. This means that the dpf cannot burn off the particulates and the dpf will just build up with carbon/soot. Once the dpf gets full it will break and at which point your eml light will come on and you'd loose power. If you do buy a diesel then you need to give it a good run on a motorway to allow the vehicle to do a regeneration on the dpf. The regeneration basically clears out the particulates out of the dpf. This can be done however you need to get the vehicle remapped. The modern ecus pull data from the dpf and egr for the running of the engine. So if you remove them without doing a remap the engine light will come on. I believe in the older engines such as the 1.9 the system was vacuum operated so it was a lot easier to trick the ecu unlike the new stuff which is all electronic and sensor controlled if that makes sense. Welcome to the forum Logan :) as you rightly point out the steering assist could be because the battery has run flat. However the recall can also make the engine rougher from other members experiences. If you have a look under the recalls section you'll get a wide range of knowledge there. I'm assuming it's a 2 litre model? And is it manual or auto? As with any car really check the service history and ideally it should be full. What's the mileage on it? The reason why I ask is because is the cambelt/water pump due for replacement or has it been done? and how does the clutch feel (if it's manual)? It shouldn't feel heavy in my opinion. Also check for any whistles from the turbo as this can be a sign the turbo is on its way out. Or it could just be the turbo pipes leaking but well worth checking. Also ask the seller if he would allow an AA or RAC inspection to be carried out. If he is reluctant or refuses then you have to ask why? In that case I would walk away. I hope iv helped chers steve

Your most welcome :) in my opinion if it is bearing or anything wheel related I'd get it looked at sooner rather than later. It's better to sort it now then have to fix anything worse later on if that makes sense. The car should last 400 miles but is it worth the risk? Hope iv helped cheers steve

Welcome to the forum Cam :) youll find the members on here are a friendly bunch and will help you where they can :) most stainless steel exhausts can be tweaked to your preference on how loud it is and the noise it makes. Companies such as power flow exhausts can cost around £350ish :) by the way iv hidden one of your topics as it was duplicated.
