  1. Definitely a tough one. My poor A6 has now sat nearly 2 years. As I say it's the coding nonsense that's the problem. Gone are the days where you fit any engine you like unfortunately
  2. Ultra is top spec 🙂
  3. To make this work ideally Yiu need to change the headlights the modules etc and then have it all wired in. An easier option would be to fit so e aftermarket ones and have them wired to a separate switch.
  4. Great spec you're looking at and good idea playing safe with a manual gearbox. Check service history of any car you're looking at including when cambelt and water pump were last changed and gearbox last serviced.
  5. Glad you're getting it sorted 🙂
  6. Sorry to hear about your wife. I still think you've done the right thing of having it done. Better safe than sorry in my opinion.
  7. You'd be mad to let it go over 5 years. Just had mine done on my 8 year old ford Kuga which was originally 10 year interval and belt was already cracking badly.
  8. Major concern in my opinion. Plus another factor is whilst a petrol/diesel car has fuel the driver is relatively free. Whereas the government can just turn off the car chargers remotely due to smart meters. Same for home energy use eventually
  9. Kev does raise a good point. You'll know if it's a sticking caliper as the brakes will feel hotter on the side it's pulling when you stop and turn the car off
  10. Doing hpi checks is wise and you're definitely doing the right thing. I'm assuming you're only looking at private sales and not dealerships?
  11. Get a proper remap on a rolling road by companies such as darkside developments, Celtic tuning or Revo as examples.
  12. I do suspect a steering rack or at least a sensor.
  13. I feel your pain as I'm.in a similar boat with my A6. Mines still off the road as the engine rebuild cost is eye watering. But finding a 2nd hand engine that'll work is just as hard as it all.has to be coded and work with the injection pump, ECU and instrument cluster. If you decide to put in a 2nd engine and you find someone who can do it plus coding please let me know as I'd be very interested.
  14. Not heard of this before, might be worth having a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up
  15. Have you had a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up regarding the steering rack?
  16. With the development of synthetic fuels electric cars are nill and void in my opinion. Especially as Germany has delayed 2030 ban on petrol/diesel cars because of this. They do more damage to the environment to manufacturer than an petrol/diesel car and their shelf life is a lot less. And a lot of the owners who think they're being green forget tyres, plastics and electricity all comes from fossil fuels. Not to mention the fire risk, this is my biggest concern. If I bought one and it sat on the drive then caught fire it could take 4 houses with it.
  17. You can't get owner details anymore. the only ones who can provide the info is DVLA but as mentioned gdpr regulations have stopped it. The easiest thing to do is buy from a dealer for peace of mind
  18. Welcome to the forum you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch. I'll speak to Trevor the administrator about this.
  19. Looks like it needs to be seen by an auto electrician
  20. Glad you got sorted. High pressure pump failure seems to becoming common on audis.
  21. Shouldn't expect these on a 3 year old car of that mileage. Is it still under warranty?
  22. Well at least that answers the software question. Hopefully it's the easily accessible ones that they've mentioned. Unfortunately it doesn't surprise me and all manufacturers are like this other than Toyota, lexus and honda. The German, french, Italian brands plus ford and vauxhall have cottoned on to the fact they can earn more money from parts than the vehicles themselves.
  23. Truthfully Audi have never cared about customer service. My A6 turbo 1 day out a warranty and Audi would only Psy half. That was 22 years ago! As my Audi has been owned by my dad then me. Also Audi has the worst parts retention for older cars than any other German brand. They did away with the time scale on cambelts which non of us here could understand as rubber deteriorates.
  24. Basically the car just gets a remap to map out the egr and adblue. I'd recommend speaking to specific tuners about this. But use a mapped who has a rolling road so that the map is tailored to the car. Be warned though, there's rumours DVLA are looking into ways of testing cars at MOT for emissions cheat devices. Even though knowing DVLA this could be some years off it's worth thinking about.
  25. You could contact the motoring ombudsman but this is a slow process. The car is 6 years old, the old schedule used to be to change the belt at 5 years. Which is probably why Audi aren't interested.
