This was my last transporter, T5 nil tree 1. !! I had just spent £3.4k on and automatic gear box rebuild, drive shaft and 2 new tyres on the front. It was a relatively low speed accident in which the newly wet road by a bit of drizzle made the tarmac quite slippery. I was not even going fast enough for the airbags to deploy even though I hit a tree head on. I totally blame the budget tyres for not having sufficient grip. This is why I now only by good tyres, for the sake of another £100 for all four corners it's just not something I will consider again. Just my humble opinion though.

God yes. If your going to pay someone to do it I would go for a better place than the local car wash for sure. They have chemicals and polishes a plenty so it would come back like new. I am a bit like N.1983 in that I would 99% of time do it by myself, seats out job but sometimes it worth paying, especially for a show like this one when your taking a standard car - no disrespect intended BTW. Audis have never needed pimping in my eyes as they have such presence anyway. But at these events it's sometimes intimidating what some people have done to there cars. I can't wait to see the pics on here after the event. Mr Q, I would be very interested to hear of any Diesel V6 engine mods that stand out at the event. For a bit of food for thought provoking ideas for mine. It's only on half your miles so just run in in my opinion.

I would have commented but now I have the face on with you!!😜 Oh yes less is most definately more especially when it comes to an 80's 'car bra'. As you said it means a lot to you so just show it some TLC. Pay for a professional valet before the event. If you did get new wheels go slightly bigger then no need to lower anyway. The avant suits the aggressive higher stance it was designed to have.

NEWBIE (Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sport (WHITE SMOKE) HELP
Dan3222 replied to AudiMickey's topic in Audi A3 (8P) Forum
TBH that's great news on the coolant side of things. Means the engine can stay in one piece 👍 Maybe you have two separate issues here then. Turbo oil seals and oily exhaust as a symptom and a separate issue causing smoke of the green white variety? obviously go with turbo first. See if it clears the issues. Regarding core replacement I was kinda meaning that for the difference of about £135 I would prefer the peace of mind you get with one that has been put together for me. It would have been cleaned and tested as a unit and would have a warranty that is easier to use if it fails. Rather than the few hours labour taken to separate the turbo into 3 parts and then put back together, if it fails the supplier will just say you did something wrong. I miss the good old days of diesels, they ran forever, where expected to smoke a bit AND no warning lights for this and that and oooo maybe a bit of this which might lead to a bit of that....... and in the end it was just a faulty sensor!! Ugg. -
Your a good man. Thanku. If you don't think it's copyable (another made up word!?! Lol) then I wouldn't ask you to send it to me. I guess I just need to not be lazy and buy one myself. Was it an eBay bargain? Dan

NEWBIE (Audi A3 2.0 TDI Sport (WHITE SMOKE) HELP
Dan3222 replied to AudiMickey's topic in Audi A3 (8P) Forum
I am reading your updates with interest. If it is the turbo seals that have gone and that's causing the smoke then I have learned something here. I would not have expected white smoke from that. Especially if she is just ticking over on idle, i.e. Not revving and therefore boosting. But, everyday is a school day. You would always find a thin lining of oil in the boost pipes, I have never taken any apart on any vehicle without seeing one or two drops come out. However, the seal on my T5 had gone but it was leaking out of an ill fitting pipe so there wasn't an excess in the pipes if that makes sense. But I never had any smoke from this, white blue or black?? On idle or hard acceleration. But the question remains where do you go from here. While a core is cheaper you need to take into consideration the time taken to strip and rebuild your turbo. If a replace the is only £200 that's where I would spend my money personally. Don't forget new gaskets too btw. if it's still smoking after that then I do think that you should look at injector seals next. Good luck with it all though mate. Reading with interest. -
You answered my next question, recent oil change. It could have been 100ml short maybe when it was done, when I do mine I always check the level the following day as that will be the 'true' new level. But yes, top her up and check it every week at least for a short while, if it's really low again within similar sort of miles 500-600 then it might be worth bringing it up with garage. Others on here though might say it's quite normal for your engine though?? In which case just ignor everything. Have said 🤐

Hi Darrel, welcome to the forum. which light came on? Yellow for low level or red for low pressure? if it was the red light then go straight beckmunder warranty. however if it's the yellow light I would just monitor it. If you have to keep putting oil in then how much how often? also, how many miles has your car done?

So there's me trying to make a joke about fuel economy but nobody took the bait!! Was going to say a simple trip to the shops will be trebled in time and distance so that you can turn every junction just so you could use the new indicators as much as possible. lol, felt obligated to explain just in case people thought me rather deluded. Guess the joke is now on me 😛

How long ago did you have new pads fitted? Although with new discs there shouldn't have been a problem with them settling in really. While you are right that there is only an on off function like on my two main vehicles. Both of them have an adjuster where each (left and right) cable is linked, near the actuator. My guess is that it will be either a 10 or 12mm nut. Probably need a bit of penetrating fluid on it to get it moving. It will need tightening slightly Can you not ask garage to adjust it up a bit for you or let you do it while it's on the ramps?
-
Ok, that's a few bob. But how special would it make your motor look. Be terrible for fuel economy though!!
-
Liiiiikkkkkeeeee it!😎 Where can you get them from. I have been looking for a decent set of lights as mine are quite yellowed now. I know they can be polished up but something like that is a must!!

You are so right about a good garage. I assume that the main reason the main dealers say 'sealed for life' is because of the issues that can so easily arise after even a basic oil change with these very complex and expensive slush boxes. i would never recommend a dealer (once the vehicle is out of warranty period of course) and only use a gearbox company that specialises in auto boxes. That's why I give the OP Mackies number. They are the best in Scotland (a 4 hour drive for me!,) and must be in the top 3 in the U.K. They give the longest warranty for their work that I know of.

Cheers Dazza, funnily enough it's had a replacement tank at some stage so it might be worth dropping the tank (unless there is access to top of tank under rear seats?) to have a look in there. i don't use the glow plugs on start up. These engines start fine without, just like the T5. Yes, judder was there on idle and in gear, though it started in gear. But, there has been the odd morning when there has been hesitant power. going to give her a good service in next couple weeks, including new fuel filter of course. I will of course update as I go.
-
Bump to the top! Had the misfire again today. I have loaned a code reader for a week or so and that still shows no codes. I am going to change the fuel filter and double dose with Millers fuel treatment to see if it helps. But would really appreciate any other pointers please guys.
-
You are right they do say that. But there are a couple things to consider. (In my option they are wrong BTW, but only think this through a bad experience) I have the 6 speed tiptronic box in the T5. I have my oil changed once a year because I do 40-50k per annum. These boxes rely totally on the condition of the fluid used inside it. There are several clutch plates inside and these do deteriorate and the only place for the material released is to stay in suspension in the fluid or be filtered if the vehicle has a filter. Therefore over time effecting the filters performance. I had to have my T5 box overhauled unfortunately, £2,700 plus £400 for a new cooler. Ouch. And To keep up,the 3 year warranty I had to have the oil changed every 25,000 miles. Long story short I have a different van now but still get the oil changed once a year for my own peace of mind. Hope that helps somewhat.

No problem. I think I paid approx £115 a corner for the 18's on the Audi. But all tyres went up in price at beginning of the year by about 8% if I remember rightly. Good luck which way you go.

I can't fault the Uniroyal rainsport contact 3 tyres. I was introduced to them via a chap who supplies to several boys who race saloons. On wet days the cars wearing these tyres were some 10 seconds a lap quicker than the next fastest cars. In the dry they were still just as fast as all the other cars too. Anyways, I have them on the A6 and the T5 and they are just the DB's in my opinion. Please stay awAy from Dunlop sports!! They are just terrible for front wheel drive cars. Terrible

If you have named your car it better be a boys name. 😝
-
There was already the phone attachment/ docking station in the car so I Don't need to do anything. However. I don't intend using the phone I just wanted it to be there to keep the car as it should be. Is that sad??? lol don't answer that. TBH I love this car. It has aged incredibly well. Hats of to the boys in 🇩🇪!!

WHAT ELSE DO YOU DRIVE / RIDE ?
Dan3222 replied to Audi Owners Club.'s topic in General Chat & Banter

If it's gear driven then I would have thought that if it was not working you would have a constant low oil pressure light. Surely this is a faulty pressure sensor. i feel for you on this one as you have a big trip ahead. I think I would be hiring a car for it!?! At the very least I would put a ZX1 oil treatment into the engine. There are loads on the market but I rate this one highly. At least you are then trying to help avoid any engine wear but still a big risk to take. just re-read your OP. You disconnected the sensor and it behaved exactly the same. That to me really does indicate that the sensor is at fault. Change that and go from there. They are a common fault on VAG engines!!
-
Does anybody know where the oil pump is on this engine, 3.0 V6 I'm guessing? If it's belt driven then this could be the cause potentially needing new pump maybe. But if pump is gear driven then I doubt it will be an issue. have you had codes reset?

As I am originally from Yorkshire I am often down the road but more often in the T5 (2 kids and 2 dogs...........) However, if there are any other meets slightly closer to Yorkshire I would definately be interested. Would also force me to have the Vinyl wrap issues sorted!! Lol

Hi MM, I think you do have the C6, same as mine but a saloon. If you come across one would you consider burning a copy (blimey that almost sounds old school these days. Can't remember the last time I burned a CD or ROM lol) . I would be happy to go 50/50 on any of the costs etc unless any kind soul had one one to burn for me and MM!?!
