Firstly, all the very best to the members of the Audi Owners Club. With regards my subframe issue - I sourced a brand new one from IM axles after the recommendation from @Magnet for £400 including delivery and it’s been fitted by my mechanic. It took him about 7 hours including the wheel alignment. He needed to soak a number of the bolts to ensure safe removal and as result of the corrosion that had occurred. i Had a late Xmas gift from the car in the form of my front pads needing to be replaced so all in parts and labour for the subframe removal and fitting the new one, wheel alignment and new pads, it cost just over £1k. Still perplexed as to how just that one section had suffered with corrosion as no leaks were found and the remainder of the underside is in top nick. Thank you again to the club fraternity for their help, and who knows maybe this thread could help someone further down the line.

Will do Gareth, going to speak with my mechanic in person later as he seems a little hesitant to start having not done it before. I think it’s very much a case of him not wanting to commit to a pricing on the job in case it runs into double figures if man hours. I’ve read a lot of comments across forums that it isn’t a particularly horrendous job to do, but that part and parcel is a full wheel alignment after it’s done for obvious reasons. I’d been very appreciative of anyone who can shed further light on to the complexity of the job and what kind of timeframe we would be looking at. On a couple of places guys were saying that with the appropriate jacks and stands that you could do it on your driveway! Obviously I won’t be going down that route, but on that rationale, at a fully equipped garage, it should make things even easier? I’m currently “budgeting” for around 6-8 hours Labour, and will be offering my menial assistance just in case 😂

I got hold of IM axles Gareth and they do indeed supply the part I need. £400 for a new part seems pretty respectable to me given that VW wanted some £1300 for theirs! Just waiting to hear from my mechanic and hopefully I can get it ordered asap. Thanks again for the recommendation 👍🏻

Thanks Gareth, I’ll have a butchers this afternoon 👍🏻

Hi Steve, There’s quite a few on the internet- the issue I have is tying the mechanic down to ensure I’m buying correct one and getting it booked in. There’s a section on this one highlighted that is “missing” however in the first conversation I had with him he thinks we can use the section on my car for this. As you may be able to tell quite easily, I’m not particularly well versed in the practical aspects of fixing cars. I can source parts and work my backside off to pay for them, but I need the right people to tell me what I need to source.

Passed the MOT - as they cannot remove the panels underneath as part of the regs - my mechanic picked up on it after removing them himself when doing the service. It’s not completely “gone” but needs doing very soon. I’ve only had it since April and this is the first time that any work has been done on it since I bought it. The subframe I can pick up for around £200 as opposed to the £1200+ vat that VW/Audi want for a brand new one. Seen a couple of varying times to do it ranging from 4-8 hours. If that’s the case I can take that hit - it’s not great but I very much want to keep the car. It’s just really strange that there’s no other corrosion around it and everything else was dry - it also help with my understanding as to a possible earthing fault that’s causing some minor issues relating to the horn and the external temperature sensor.

Afternoon all, just had my car in for a gearbox service followed with a full service and MOT. My mechanic has found corrosion on the subframe and I’m looking to get this sorted. I can find a replacement front subframe with relative ease, but wondered if any of you know how long and how bad a job it is to do? thanks as always for any advice with this 👍🏻 e85aa66f-6eeb-443a-a79f-3fc82341b236.mp4

Thank you, a miraculous recovery today so I think I’ll take a look and see if there’s anything in the way. My external temp sensor has been out of kilter of late too so there could be something in the same area obstructing them.

Evening all ! Can someone help me with the location of the horn on the car please. Just popped out and I’ve lost the low tone aspect of the horn. Can’t seem to find any diagrams or videos on line guiding me to its location. Hoping it’s just a loose wire but if I need to change it I’d like to know where I’m looking and what I need to move to get to it. Thank you in advance guys.

Thanks guys, the cars I have currently shortlisted are all S-Tronic with mileage between 78 and 110k. Will the timing belt tensioners need to have been done at this kind of mileage?

Good evening all, I’m hoping to get some advice for buying an 61-63 plate A7. It looks like my faithful 2.7 A6 is finally on his way out with too many costs to keep him on. 210,000 miles is an honourable journey to have travelled though!! Can any of you offer any advice for the best models and buyer beware flags if you could. I’m looking to spend around the £10k mark and so far I’m looking at a 2011-2013 s-line model with between 75 and 120k on the clock. These forums have been such a help to me over the years and I’d really appreciate any advice you guys can offer 👍🏻

Good afternoon all, I’m changing all my front bulbs ahead of my MOT and service on my 2006 2.7tdi and want to go as bright as possible without a xenon conversion. Can anyone recommend the best site and bulbs for me - thank you all in advance.

Thankfully in this instance Steve, I guess the power cut from the battery draining was the main contributing factor.

So in the short time since I posted this I’ve just been out in the car ....and my sat nav is back on? Great result but non the wiser !

Good afternoon all, I recently valeted my car and stupidly left the radio on for the 90 mins it took me which in turn ran down my battery. I jump started it and took it out for a good blast and all is fine on that front but for whatever reason the sat nav will not load? I’ve taken the updated disc I’d put in some 9 months ago and it simply brings up a message of check sat nav dvd on the MMI screen. Does anyone have any ideas how to remedy this? I’ve already turned it all off, taken the disc out and reinserted it. I’ve also done a quick reset of the MMI. any suggestions as always greatly appreciated

Sounds like a plan, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for announcements. -
Afternoon folks, it’s been 3 years since I bought my 2006 A6 2.7 SE and just wanted to thank you all for your input in this forum. Not only did your advice help me to buy a great car in the start, but it has also helped me with a number of issues along the way. I’m currently in the process of trying to pamper my car with some mechanical servicing and Also wanted to know if there are any easily obtainable MMI upgrades I could install? Also if anyone has a link to DAB radios I would be most grateful. The previous owner had one and had fitted the appropriate aerial, but took out the system to fit to his Avant after selling his car to me. Thank you as always for any replies 👍🏻

Cheers Gareth, I Never bought the battery- just ordered it to be held thankfully, I’m no fan of spending unnecessary cash that is for sure hence the attempt to remedy the matter without a visit to my local garage.....The £10 for the multimeter was money better spent !!. We are going to tackle the replacement tomorrow and my original alternator will be reconditioned and put back on. I’ve got a few links for tips to do it without removing the front end completely and I’ll let you know how we get on....as always any guidance or tips are welcome 😳😬
-
Well it turns out it’s the alternator 🙁 put the multimeter on and it’s only showing 8.2 whereas my battery shows full. The car is misfiring at about 1400 revs and I guess that as a result of the charge not being enough to run the engine properly. I’ve a friend coming over to help fit it with me tomorrow. Does anyone have any tips they can pass on? Thanks Chris
-
Getting battery locally from euro parts, and will definitely be checking the alternator when we’ve fitted it. I haven’t got vcds however.
-
Ok I’m getting a little worried about changing this battery tomorrow now! Has anyone got a step by step guide so I don’t goose the thing when I’m doing it? I’ve just ordered a code saver device but I don’t suppose that will solve this battery coding issue???
-
Thanks for your reply Gareth. I’ve had a good mechanic friend of mine over this morning who strongly believes it’s the battery. We couldn’t fix it today just because nobody had an appropriate battery in stock. The car did start over and it does appear that the battery is indeed the original one!! After a couple of minutes of running it started smoking from the exhausts - a result of the injectors not getting the help they needed apparently. All belts seem quite intact and Undamaged so I’m hoping that a quick battery swap should take care of the issue. Is there anything I need to be prepared for after I do swap it though? Kind Regards Christian

Temporary power steering loss and smell of diesel
Christian replied to Christian's topic in Audi A6 (C6) Forum
Following from this and months down the line the same problem occurred again and again. Turns out there was a crack in the top of the high pressure fuels pump. This came about after discovering there was an engine mounting bolt missing (two actually) and all the rattling had caused the damage. For a new pump I was quoted £800+ to replace normally but Project Audi in my home city sourced a company “Burscough Diesels” who managed rebuild the damaged top section of the pump - fixing it and saving me almost half the projected cost. Costly but they’ve done a great job. -
Haven’t posted in a while owing to the car being trouble free.My battery light came on in my 2006 2.7tdi the other day then went on and off for the couple of times I drove it but when driving home tonight the light stayed on then a warning for esp light came on then the main headlights dimmed and my dash and mmi went dead. The engine stayed on and Thankfully I was close to home so got it back and locked up. I’m obviously concerned that it’s the alternator but has anyone experienced this, could it just be the battery or worse than all could it be the alternator pulley AND the alternator. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Chris

Driving home this morning my engine cut out and now will not start- low oil pressure earring message in centre consol. I’ve checked the oil level which is fine and the condition of the oil I know to be good - whilst I’m awaiting the AA has anyone experienced this or know what the problem could be. It’s the Audi A6 2.7tdi engine?
