  1. Pipe from the fuel rail to the pump.An audi only part so about £40 to replace and hopefully it will solve the issue completely.
  2. As soon as I find out the specific pipe I’ll post on here just in case anyone has a similar problem in the future. Just so difficult in the dark and hammering down rain.
  3. Thanks Paul, a fuel pipe from the fuel pump is leaking dropping diesel down on to the belt causing it to slip and fail. Hoping it’s a relatively quick and more importantly cheap fix!! Thank you again for your quick response- another reason I love this site. Unfortunately now I have to live without my car for a couple of days 🙁.
  4. Incidentally there are no warning lights or bells going off at all and there has been no hint of this before today, no bumps no prangs no jolts or anything 🤔
  5. Started car in work car park to come home, it’s a multi story car park and as I was cooking down one of the ramps my power steering suddenly stopped and then after wrangling it around a corner, came back on and then went again briefly. Got it out of the car park and then normal for about 4 miles. Went to turn into a car park and it goes again. Throughout there was/is a smell of diesel coming through the vent?? Got the AA coming to have a look now.(car running and no fault with steering atm) Does anyone have any suggestions?? Thank you in advance👍🏻
  6. Thanks, that free health check sounds great - do I just ring audi to organise a date or could I just rock up to my local dealership? To my understanding, It's chain driven so will have a look at its previous maintenance with Audi. The gearbox oil was changed at 140,000 so hopefully I've got another few months before this will need doing again. The 7 speed box is impeccably smooth and the torque is great. A few folk have suggested a re-map to bolster the torque and improve its fuel efficiency but £400 is a little expensive ATM given i have just bought it. Here's to more interaction with you guys with more experience than me and I look forward to reading more of your posts, happier in the knowledge that I now actually have something to reference too!!!
  7. After great advice from you guys in the forums and much deliberation I finally picked up my 2.7 tdi se A6 last week.....hurrah!!!.....what a great machine. I got a great deal too👍🏻 Now obviously I shall, like many be treating this like a new born and want to ensure I look after it. The start will be sourcing a garage to service it in the coming months and wanted to know am I better paying the hefty chunk of change and going to an Audi Main dealership or an approved garage? It has a 150k on it and has been Main dealer serviced up to 140 with the last owner doing an oil and filter change at 148,000. As always I appreciate your advice guys.
  8. Having found a number of cars matching the specifications I'm chasing, I've read a lot regarding the inlet manifold swirl flap, and the problems it can cause. Also saw that there are apparently cheap fixes to it. Could anyone confirm any of the abov information and also a guesstimate of the price for preemptively fixing it please?
  9. I know just looked at that myself, messaged him last night regarding it so not sure what's happened there!!
  10. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/352103807206 I can get this for just under 3k ?
  11. Yeah the saloon is definately the car that i am drawn to. The 2.7 and 3.0 Le Mans in particular are something I've looked at quite a bit . A 2007 / 2008 model with around 120,000 miles on it is knocking on the door of £5k (dealers), and with a decent history it seems that's the going rate. Think I would definitely be making enquiries regarding replacement the oil pump and its service history, and I'm also pretty sure I'll be taking out warranty insurance on the car to "belt and brace" myself for any serious mechanical issues. If I can get 3-5 good hassle free motoring yearsv out of the car I would be happy. Your help on this topic has been great so far folks and the more you can educate me the better. Having been involved in this conversation has already given me more confidence to take my first step towards the Audi owning community.
  12. Apologies for sounding the complete novice, but basically I am!! Which models do you folks recommend then? I'm quite nervous about buying a slightly old car in general but the last thing I want is thousands of pounds in costs as soon as I buy 😬 Again my search criteria is between 2004 and 2008 and want an automatic (now without a CVT gearbox). Thank you once more in advance 👍🏻
  13. Yeah that's a massive help thanks, whilst the car won't be the most expensive, I wanted to make sure I'm "tooled up" with as much knowledge as I can to try and make the right buy. Thanks for your help Nice One 👍🏻 Chris
  14. PS sorry it's the auto that I am looking at 👀
  15. That's great that thanks Steve, yeah the cars I'm looking at are on 05/55 and 06 plates, varied between the 2.0 SE 2.7 and 3.0 SE. I'm sadly no mechanic and wondered is it worth trying to get an old hand or even an AA vehicle check to check those things out and - is there somewhere I can track down such a person (who has specific knowledge regarding the A6) if the cam belt and water pump haven't been done - what kind of cost would that involve to be fixed? Taking that into price negotiation could be key. Thank you again Chris
  16. Hi all, It's nearly time for me to say goodbye to an old friend namely my vectra that I've had for 9 years! And I am now set on buying an A6 2.0 TDI SE. There are a lot of questions I would like to ask and I guess the first is are there any questions I should be asking when buying a car with around 80k on the clock and any issues I should be particularly wary of? Thanks in advance for you replies guys.👍🏻
