I am not totally sure, but i would doubt it would be a simple as just swapping over the lights, as with most Facelifts, although there doesn't look like there has been much change, companies tend to slightly alter the wings, bumper, bonnet and bumpers to give it a fresher look, and Audi will be no different. Im sure there is someone on here that knows exactly but i would have thought it would require a lot more than just swapping the lights over!

As Steve has said above, for me though i would not worry about the quattro system unless you live in an area where you think it would be useful (like Scotland) The extra cost in Car Tax and fuel bills are really worth it unless you need it. In terms of Auto or Manual, this is really a preference thing, i personally love automatics, but i'm not a fan of the DSG box as basically this is a clutchless manual, good if your racing everywhere, but in normal day to day running i find it a bit clunky and clumsy, especially at lower speeds. I'm not sure when they came out but Audi did do a normal automatic box which i think was called Servetronic, for me this was a much better gearbox in terms of automatic (i had one on a A3 1.6tdi i had and i much preferred it over the DSG box). So much smoother and probably less fragile than the DSG one. From memory the Black edition didnt come with much (if any) extra equipment over the standard S Line just some different Black bits! I would say get out and drive a few, especailly if your not sure on engine or gearbox, and both are really a preference thing.

In terms of the "Special Edition", that is basically the Base model (S) but with Alloys. The SE model is above the S & Special Edition. I would try and get the Sport model as that comes with better seats, Dual Zone Climate, a better Stereo and if your lucky, like i was, the Bose Speakers. It really depends on what type of driving you do, but the 1.6 is a bit sluggish and not great on fuel, the diesels are obviously much better, with the 1.9tdi being probably the safest bet as they are pretty much bulletproof.

Hi Dan, I dont believe my one has an EGR cooler as its the old 2.0tdi (not the common rail one you would have had)

Hi all, after a bit of wisdom! My Audi 04 plate 2.0tdi Sport, kicks out white smoke when started from Cold. This only lasts about 20-30 seconds (about the time it takes me to drive down my lane), if i put my footdown in this early point i get lots of white smoke, but by the time i hit the main road its all pretty much gone! It also can sometimes not start that great from cold (i.e takes a couple of seconds to kick in once i turn the key after the glow plug light has gone out, for reference glow plugs have been replaced pretty recently) Now i know white smoke indicates burning Diesel or it could be steam, which brings me to my other point. It seems to be losing coolant on a regular basis, not a lot but about every 2 weeks the coolant light will come on and i top it up. There are no signs of any water leaking under the car (although this is hard to tell at this time of year) and no signs that it is getting into the head at all (no milky residue on the oil filler cap). Could these 2 be related?? If it could be coolant getting into the exhaust system, where the hell do i need to look to find out?!?! Or is it likely to be fuel? In that case what would you suggest looking at?? Thanks in advance.

From experience you can normally hear it! when the engine is idling in nautral, if you can hear a rattling noice that goes when you press the clutch then it is on its way out!

Not quite this clean now mind!!! Gotta say so impressed with it, the previous owner had done some nice little mods too (S3 Mirrors, all round tinted windows, Zenon headlights which are awesome) I've added an armrest (sadly not an official Audi one as they are rather pricey!) Feel like i robbed the guy to be honest, so much car and quality for the money and 47mpg! Bargain!

Hi Reggie, I just brought a 2004 A3 2.0tdi with 109k on the clock. I got it for a cracking price of £1650, it has a full service history too. What i would look for is one that has had its Clutch and Dual Mass Flywheel done (mine had it done earlier this year) as these are expensive repairs, Full Service history as the 2.0tdi engine needs more care than the older 1.9tdi one. Usual checks when driving for any unwanted knocks or bangs. Try and go for the best spec you can, i managed to get a Sport model with the Concert CD and 6 Disc changer plus Bose! Means you get the added beneifits of Auto Climate Control. Ive got to say bearing in mind its 13 years old it drives like new, even my missus says it feels like the newer audi's i had when i had a company car. Make sure EVERYTHING works. As Clifford said, cambelt and water pump should have been done, but not the end of the world if it is due again as its nowhere near as expensive to get it done as it used to be. 2.0tdi comes in 2 powers the 140 (which i have) and the 170 quattro. The 170 does have a DPF fitted and of course the 4 wheel drive system, check to see if anything has been done with these (especially the quattro as it does need regular servicing) the 170 is also higher in road tax too! Overall though if its been well looked after you should be able to get a cracking one for your budget!

Morning All, Im new to the forum but not new to Audi having owned a few in the past. Recently just purchased a Lovely 2004 A3 2.0tdi Sport with 110k on the clock, Full Service History and had a new Clutch & Flywheel earlier this year so i am rather happy with my purchase. Anyway, I had a Post from one of my Facebook Groups from a Company doing Engine Carbon Cleans, so thought i would have a look into them. I remember a few years ago that Wheeler Dealers did something similar with a Jag, so thought i would see if that was the same thing. Turns out good old Edd China used Terraclean, which i know is different to the Hydrogen Based Carbon Cleans that these companies are now offering. The Question is has anyone had either of these done on their car? And if so was there any improvements on Running / MPG?
