Have you tried re-building the station list, I believe with DAB it doesn't automatically remove out of region stations so it could be while the station is present in the station list on your car it isn't actually present in your area?

Which music do you prefer to listen to in the car?
Descarl replied to Trevor's topic in Audi Club Lounge / General Chat
I've got an old iPOD that has a cracked screen permanently plugged in to the AMI and just leave it on random most of the time so could be anything from Prog-Rock to Rap or Euro-Pop or even a little Country now and then -
1.8Tfsi - black smoke when pulling away following remap
Descarl replied to Descarl's topic in Audi A5 Club
Hi Gareth Thanks for the reply, the car starts on the button and runs perfectly. It's weird though but the smoke only appears initially when revving, if you keep the revs high the smoke goes away. It's almost like the car is running rich initially and then catches up with itself and sorts the fuelling out. I'm not sure if an issue with the coolant temperature sensor would effect the way the temp is reported in the car but as far as I car see it gets to mid-way on the gauge and is then solid there whether at a standstill or driving. I'm starting to think the coil packs are starting to play up when the engine heats up, they've been on the car a couple of years and I've read somewhere they could start breaking done when they get hot. I'm getting it smoke tested next week to see if there's a vacuum leak somewhere as VCDS reported a leak and if that doesn't doesn't find anything I'll replace the MAF as that seemed to be reporting really low values. I will though keep in mind your suggestion, and definately add it to the list of possibles:-) I've also got a Carista OBD somewhere so I'll dig that out and see if there are any fault codes, other than mentioned above, being reported that could point me the right direction. Anyway thanks again for the feedback, hopefully I can sort this out quickly and enjoy the car! How's Cardiff by the way, a Valleys boy originally myself but spent a lot of time in Cardiff as well as going to University there! Carl -
1.8Tfsi - black smoke when pulling away following remap
Descarl replied to Descarl's topic in Audi A5 Club
Some further information the above only seems to happen when the engine is thoroughly up to temperature so I wonder whether something is breaking down when the engine is running warm. -
Damn that's pretty

Hi all I recently purchased a 2010 A5 1.8Tfsi and I have to say I absolutely love the car. I had it remapped yesterday and now I get black smoke from the exhaust when pulling away or revving hard. The smoke is only when I pull away or start revving and doesn't persist if I keep the revs high. If I sit in the car in my driveway and continually rev press the throttle to rev and release the car I can see a soot deposit forming on the drive and my exhaust tips are covered in dry soot. When I noticed it I called the guy that did the remap (it's a generic map rather than using a rolloing road) and he came back to take a look at the car and I also changed plugs and filters just in case. Anyway the guy came back and plugged his diagnostic tools in to the car and the MAF was showing on 0.75 on VCDS (didn't really change when revving) and a system leak error (sorry can't remember the code) somewhere. When I unplugged the MAF the reading went up to around 2.45 but immediately went back to around 0.75. I then got him the return the car to the OEM map (it wasn't smoking prior to the remap) but if anything it was worse with the OEM map. The engine is running fine and there's no loss of power at any point, I haven't really had any time to see if the mpg has been effected. I assume that the remap has shown up an issue that was already there with the engine or caused something to go over the edge and fail which is now causing the smoke which I believe in unburnt fuel. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be the issue, I'm planning on starting by replacing the MAF (due to the low readings) and if that doesn't fix things move on to the coil packs and injectors (I'm planning on putting an injector cleaner through the system to see if it helps but I don't hold out much hope. I'm hoping it's not the rings but there is no blue in the smoke at all so I don't believe any oil is burning off. Anyway apologies for the long post, any advice would be greatly appreciated as I really love this car and just want it to run as good as it looks Carl

I had a similar problem with the information screen in an A4 a while ago which was down to dry joints. I found a guy fairly locally to me that made a fairly good living fixing them so I guess it's a common problem as Rudis_Dad says. Regards coding though there are plenty of independent VAG specialist garages throughout the country which should be able to deal with any coding needed to fit the replacement, in this case Google is your friend.

Audi Symphony 3 without DAB swap
Descarl replied to Descarl's topic in Audi Audio / DashCams / Electronics / Security
Hi Thanks for the response, I found a company down in Plymouth (Retrofit SW) that will suply and fit a Symphony radio that has DAB using the original Audi aerial for £350 so I'm in the process of booking in with them. They'll do everything from sourcing the radio and aerial amp through to fitting and coding, as far as I'm concerned that's a bargain! Carl -
HI Just got hold of a 2010 A5 Convertible that has a a Symphony head unit without DAB. Is it possible to just change the head unit to a second hand Symphony unit that does have DAB or would it need to be coded in to the car. There are a few units on ebay that look OK but want to check this can work before buying the new head unit. Thanks Carl

Thanks both, not sure about the air ride but hopefully a couple of test drives, when this lock down is lifted, will help make up my mind. The one thing I really would like is the BOSE audi systems, shallow I know but I had it in my A4 and the sound was amazing for an OEM system. Also thanks for the link to the video, definately worth watching. Once again thanks for all the help, hopefully I can return the favour on the site when I do manage to get hold of a Q7

Wow, that's great. Thanks for the excellent answer

Hi all Been away from Audi's for a while but I'm considering buying a Mk1 Q7 3.0TDi (mid-2009) and have found one that looks interesting. It's listed as a S-Line but I can't see any S-Line badges on the pictures in the advert. Can anyone tell me what are the differences, externally, between an S-Line model and a SE model, preferably with pictures if possible. Thanks Carl

As I understand it all the radio antennas are in the rear window, have to say though on my A4 B8 I haven't had a problem with radio reception. With FM and DAB I get good reception, equal or better than any other car I've had anyway, most window antennas also have a amplifier so it might be worth checking that?

Hi Steve Thanks for that, I looked in to the various options and in the end decided to go with aftermarket lowering springs. It's booked in to have them fitted next Wednesday, once that's done I'll have to think of something else to spend the money on. Carl
-
Just had mine remapped from 236bhp to 291bhp, I'm not the fastest driver in the world but I'm loving the improved throttle response:-)7 I seem to have the bug for spending money though as it's booked in for lowering springs next Wednesday!

I've got the electric handbrake on my manual A4 3.0TDI, as long as you have your seatbelt on it should release automatically as you pull off. To be honest having driven automatics and manuals with standard handbrakes I'd say the electric handbrake on the Audi is the easiest of them all, hill start or on the flat.

I just got a updated satnav dvd for my 2G from these guys, http://www.satnavdvd.co.uk, worked perfectly and updated with no problems.

Hi, I've just got an Audi A4 3.0tdi SE Quattro on a 09 plate and while I'm loving the car. For me though it sits a little too high, can anyone recommend a set of springs that will get it closer to a S-Line ride height? I've been looking at the Eibach Pro-Kit as that should give me 30mm drop from standard all round, does anyone have any experience with these or any recommendations on alternatives?

Thanks Steve, I have to be honest it's only been a few days but I am absolutely loving it:-)

Here's my new baby, picking her up today, A4 3.0tdi Quattro, as soon as I saw her I knew I had to have her!
