Hi, not sure if this has been asked and answered already. My car won’t go into 2nd gear sometimes when changing up from first. Changed gear box oil, and replaced clutch. The engine light didn’t come on when it wouldn’t go into gear up until the clutch was replaced, it now comes on when it won’t go into gear occasionally since clutch has been replaced. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance

Hello – I am hoping for some help as I am new to Audis and I’ve recently purchased an automatic 2004 A3 S-Line 2.0 diesel with 150,000 miles. The main issue I have when the car is in automatic mode and I am trying to accelerate when I’m already going fairly fast. To add some context to that. I drive on the motorway to get to work and I only really notice the issue during this time. Generally it’ll happen if I’m already in the highest gear and need to overtake or attempt to change lane which requires some level of acceleration. Instead of accelerating, the car just revs but there’s no power. The car does feel like it’s changing gear but it sounds very sporadic. I’m no expert but I understand the kickdown should ensure that the car is in the correct gear to cope with the sudden acceleration? Whatever speed I’m doing at the time doesn’t increase and if I don’t keep my foot flat on the accelerator the car starts to lose power. But by doing so the car is then at maximum revs. Worryingly, it’s not temporary either. I need to stop the car and switch off the engine before it seems to stop. I’ve tried switching the car to manual and using the paddles to change down a gear or 2 but this does nothing. The display shows the gears going down but the engine doesn’t behave in a way that would suggest it’s actually doing anything, it just keeps revving excessively. As I’ve mentioned. The only way to stop it happening is to stop the car completely and turn the engine off. This doesn’t happen every time (thankfully) but as you can imagine, once is enough during rush hour on the M3! I plan to take it to a garage but I wondered if anyone has experience anything like this before and what the potential cause could be. It would be helpful to be armed with some knowledge ahead of any trip the mechanic. This is my first time posting so I hope I've given enough detail on the issue Thanks in advance.

Hello folks I have a 2011 A3 TDI with 155k on the clock. I've looked through the cars service history and can't find any evidence of a transmission fluid change or service. Having done some online research it appears that these cars have been designed with 'maintenance free' transmissions. I find this hard to believe so keen to get any advice on whether a fluid change or flush is a good idea. Keen to keep the car running well for a while longer yet. Many thanks in advance! Rob

A3 Quattro 2.0T......Gearbox Thud at crawling speeds??
jonny127 posted a topic in Audi A3 (8P) Forum
Hi guys! I have a 54 plate A3 Quattro 2.0T and I've had it for a few months now. At crawling speeds it makes a clearly audible thud when moving off, and feels the same as when your handbrake might stick (Its not the brakes as i've checked those .This wasnt much of a problem until it began to get worse (more knocking noises). I suspect that its a loose driveshaft connection and is just taking up the torque. A month or so after i bought it it developed a misfire so took it back to the dealer who fixed it under warranty. the procedure for removing the head somehow involved removing most of the 4WD system and gearbox etc and a week after i got it back it developed the above noise, and so naturally i suspec that that may have been the cause. My question to you lot is whether any of you have experienced such a noise, and what did you do to fix it? Many thanks!- 1 reply

I did a search on this website regarding the CVT. Nothing comes up. I am in a pickle. I have a 2002 A4, 1.8 turbo with the CVT tranny. I have had the car for 6 years and have been very happy with it. It has 105K miles on it and has started presenting a noise that appears to be coming from the front of car. It is intermittent but seems to arrive at 55 to 60 miles per hour. It seems to be a vibration related noise. I thought it was tires and replaced both front tires. Occassionally the tranny doesn't seem to engage properly from a cold start. When you start the car, press accelerator the car sometimes jumps and then either stalls or jerks forward. Once it has done this it smooths out and generally doesn't happen again for some time. Seems to only happen off a cold start. I have seen a number of videos on youtube about this tranny. I am having problems and some of the symptoms parallel those identified. I have enjoyed this car and would like to continue doing so but am afraid the tranny is failing. I have contacted local transmission shops and they won't touch this. The Audi dealer won't tell me anything, want me to bring them the car in and give them a blank check. I have talked with a number of rebuilders and they want me to send the tranny or car to them. Everywhere I turn it appears by the time I do anything it will cost more than the car is currently worth. Is their anyone out there that knows this transmission, and is willing to talk to me or assist me in some way. Thank you Randy
