tyre replacement AUDI A4 Avant (2019) spare tyre question
Steve335 posted a topic in Audi A4 (B9) Forum
Hi all, I’m new to the forum. I would appreciate your help. I’ve just bought an A4 Avant 40TFSI. It’s a 2019 model, bought used from the local Audi dealer. As most of you know, newer Audis don’t come with a spare wheel (not even a space saver one). The only thing supplied is an inflatable kit which is pretty much useless and it also ruins the tyre if used, which means you have to purchase a new tyre every time you have a puncture. I have asked the dealer if I can order a space-saver tyre. He made some enquiries and the response was: “AUDI are not sure if it’s possible and also if it will even fit, as modifications might be needed. If you have a puncture, call breakdown service!”. Not sure what to think of that… Apparently the reason AUDI have removed the spare tyre is to reduce emissions… I drive a lot for work and it wold be very inconvenient to call breakdown service and wait to be towed to the nearest garage just to repair a puncture. I’d like to be able to put the spare tyre on and carry on with my journey. The tyres are 245/40/R19 (19 inch alloys). I had a look online and it seems that the Hankook T125/70/R19 space saver tyre is the one suited for this size. The only problem is that the boot space is very tight. There is potentially some room if I remove the pump box (which I will happily do if I can fit the spare tyre there), but the rectangular battery might be a problem, as it seems to obstruct the round shape of the tyre. Also, the battery cables run through the grooves and are not easy to move / bend. I took a photo to give you an idea of the space. Before I go ahead and purchase a tyre I wanted to ask if anyone had the same problem and if you have found a solution, i.e if it’s possible to fit a space saver tyre over the battery (and if so, are there any mods or extra components required ). Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Steve- 24 replies

I currently have Avon ZV7s on my Quattro Avant. I am considering going with the Contis next time. The Avons are very good but the idea of all weather tyres apeals to me. Especially as I live halfway down a muddy old hill - its all muddy around my part of Somerset actually 😕

Car: 2008 A4 Quattro 3.0 TDI Avant Bought the car about 6 months ago, and I need to replace the 2 front tyres at least for my upcoming MOT. I've noticed that its running on 225/40ZR18 92W XL, but on the plate on the inside of the door it states 235/40/18 XL. If I replace the 2 fronts to the correct spec (235), should I really be changing the rears as well? What tyres do people recommend? Anything that might reduce the firmness of the ride? Do they need to be XL spec?

Stuttgart ST3 alloy wheels (20” X 10.0” 5x112). Goodyear Excellence 275/40R20 106Y XL tyres. £900 I bought these alloys/tyres brand new for £1400 to go on my 2010 Q5. They were on the car for 3 weeks before I changed cars again, sadly they don't fit my new car so I am reluctantly selling them. Due to the fact they were only used for three weeks the alloys and the tyres are in excellent, as new condition. The tyres can either be collected in person (from Holsworthy, Devon) Or A courier can be arranged for £50. Open to sensible offers. Any questions don’t hesitate to ask - 07956256515

Hi All, Firstly, hi / hello / bienvenidos / hola / bonjour and so on to all. Not many people can say they own their dream car, but for me the 2016 SQ5 3.0 V6 BiTurbo tdi is definitely that. I have owned it for a little under a year from the same dealer that had it from new (driven by the owner of the dealership since new). For those that have never driven one, it is phenominal. For those that have, you know what i mean. Ok so it is no RS7 or R8 but to move an SUV to 60mph in an iota over 5 seconds from standstill is psychotic! I do love it. Anyway, i digress, i will be needing a couple of new tyres on the front in the coming months and thought to find out if any of you with an SQ5 have any suggestions on a good brand? Next, anyone else have issues with the rear screenwasher? The motor spins when activated but no screenwash. Filled the screenwash bottle and did the pin in the washer jet trick to clear debris but still nothing.... Oh and have any of you used AMD for tuning / remaps? Any good?

I upgraded my A5 to a Q3 and i have left for sale a set of 4 winter tyres 19 inch 255/35 in excellent condition. I thought they would fit on the Q3 but it came with 20" and will not fit even if I buy new 19" alloys. They were used only 3 months with very low mileage with 7.5 mm tread left. Purchased from new for over £1,000. They are amazing on wet surfaces and their performance is incredible on snow, specially with quattro in an Audi.I have seen similar A5 spinning on all fours up a small hill and I just sailed past on my winter tyres. Purchaser responsible for collection. Sittingbourne, Kent

Hi, It's November and I'm on the hunt for recommendations for winter tyres for a 2017 272ps Audi A6 Allroad on 255/45 R19 Wheels. My driving is on a mix of country roads and faster A roads in Scotland. I'm looking for a good all-rounder - needs to be good in the wet especially up here! Any advice appreciated. I'm not planning to buy new rims and go down a size or two, but would be interested in hearing from anyone who has done that.

Anyone know why my Audi shreds and strips my back tyres? Top image is my rear tyre bottom is front. I bought 4 part worn Goodyear Vector Eagles with 5mm tread The guy at garage measured them when we got them and they were 5.4mm this was on the 4th of May I have done 1,854 miles and need to replace the rear ones already this has been ongoing since I have had the car I have had them tracked balanced numerous times and no difference any ideas as to why this happens?

Hi, I need to buy new tyres. My 2017 Audi A6 Allroad Sport 3.0 TDi 272 PS came with Contisport Contact 3 tyres; they've done just (just) 10,000 miles and will need replacing very soon. About half of my driving is winding country lanes at not more than 30mph; the other half is motorway. What tyres do you suggest I buy? I'd prefer an all year rounder and not have to swap winter/summer. Thanks in anticipation for your help. Much appreciated. James

HI all I recently bought an 07 2.7tdi AllRoad and having owned several BMW's, Range Rover, Lexus, Alfa Romeo's and even a WRXSTI Subaru I can say I'm happy and very impressed with the build quality. It has the ZF 6 Speed Triptronic box and I'm planning on getting the ATF changed, I've read conflicting advice, some say a full flush is needed some advice against changing all the ATF in one go any advice there ? The gear changes are all smooth but there is a big hesitation, "flat spot" when kicking down quickly at around 1500 rpm and lower in D, I'm hoping the ATF change may help. Also I'm aware of the Gearbox ECU revision, can I find out which revision it is on through diagnostics ? Is it possible to have the revision made by a Indy or re-mapper or does it have to go to an Audi Main Dealer ? I don't have one near me but to have a VW Dealer. Also I'm getting a Stage 1 Remap done this week so may see if they can read the ECU and even do the upgrade. The car has done 129000 miles with a FSH man dealer for first half and then Indy. It will need 4 tyres in the next month or so, I'm looking Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3's as they are cheap from Oponeo any opinions ? I will be doing about 10% on farm tracks and fields. Thanks Matt

Hello - new member. Stupidly took A4 for MOT without checking tyres and due to logistics decided to get the Audi one replaced. Expensive. Anyone know what tyre gauges Audi mechanics use? I've attached a screenshot of the one on the AudiCam. Cheers, GITQ

So had to bite the bullet and get another pair of tyres - have had ZZ5 Avons on the rear for a while now but hard to judge their performance on the back, they just got on with the job. The Continentals on the front have done a job (26500 miles worth) but the price of their equivalents are prohibitive. With new ZZ5s on the front and 100 miles in I have to say the car is better now than when I purchased it 16000 miles ago. When reversing off of the drive I used to get the awful stepping like you had skipped of a kerb - not any more. Also gone is the tracking over banding in the road surface - every commute for a year I used to get the same shimmy over a section of bridge but that too has gone. All for under £230 fitted. As with everything new - time will tell. I used to like the Uniroyals but I am (for now) converted.

Having saved myself a huge bill for an engine warning light problem I'm now going to bite the bullet and get my alloys refurbed - plus need to get a couple of new tyres. Q1 - any recommendations for alloy refurbishment in and around the Reading/Berkshire are? - what should I be looking for/avoid. 1.8 TFSI from 2013 which has the 5 spoke 18 inch alloys - the ones with the channel in the spoke? Q2 - when it comes to tyres - what a minefield/what a choice - The car came issued with Continental, I have no loyalty to any brand other than possibly Pirelli fro reasons of their calendar (haha) - so any input from members ref tyres (performance to cost) would be welcomed. Drive about 8k per year - not that much motorway thanks Andrew

I need to replace the Yokohama tyres that I have on my A7 S line BiTDI (165 / 35 / R20) and would like some advice on the best replacements based on other peoples experience. Pirelli P Zero's seem to be a pretty good price, but I have read that they are quite noisy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
