  1. Hi all, this noise has become more prominent. cant work out what it is and don’t want it causing damage. any help appreciated!! IMG_9510.mov
  2. Hi all, new here so apologies if I do anything wrong. My A4 B8.5 S-Line CVT started making a whining noise around 6 weeks ago but not sure exactly when as the wife drives it usually and she never noticed it. There is a slight whine when idle that gets worse as the revs increase. Really hoping it isn’t related to the transmission in any way. I was thinking possibly the alternator failing or something to do with the belt? I’m rubbish with this stuff though. Wondering if anyone has any ideas before I take it into the shop? I’d be really thankful for any input on this. Vid of noise is linked: https://youtu.be/vil177hzwNk?si=YbEEo970Yh2D81Av Thank you all.
  3. Hi folks, how's things? I have a very loud Scraping / Grinding sound on front of my engine. The noise is external, as apposed to inside the block. It could be coming from either the timing area, the serpent belt adjuster, one of the pumps or the Alternator, I can't work out which. The first 3 days it made the noise I crapped myself, thinking the engine was about to explode, or something was going to fall off. By the time I opened the bonnet the noise had gone. The noise was/is like twisting a shuvel inside a metal bucket, but at a constant faster speed, maybe twice a second at tickover/idle, and scraping more on one side of the bucket than the other. After the choke closed the noise went away within a few seconds and the car drove without issue. On the 4th and 5th days the noise didn't go away, but again became quieter (more quiet) as the choke closed & the revs dropped, which I would think to be logical; it is still quite loud, as opposed to very loud. The noise does increase with revs, as I assume would be expected. The engine starts & runs ok, but does appear to run a little laboured, but only a little... I have my suspicions, but thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone agrees. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated and gratefully received. Thanks, Paul. Car: Audi A4 B8 2.0 TFSI Quattro S-Line 2009.
  4. Hi, I purchased a new Q8 in November 2019. Ever since I’ve owned the car, the brakes appear to ‘grind’ at low speed, especially when cold. They also squeal at times. I’ve had multiple cars of this value from other manufacturers and never had this problem before (in fact, we also brought a new Q5 for my wife at the same time, and she has no issues with this). I’ve been back to the dealer and they claim it’s ‘normal’. Is this correct ? I just wanted to check other peoples experience before I go back again. Thanks
  5. Hi, I went to look at a A3 2011 1.6 TDI S line 3dr today with a view to buying. Lovely car, great condition. My only concern was a ticking noise coming from the engine bay when idling. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what this noise could be? Video included in the link below. It's not the easiest to hear but it's the ticking noise every 1 to 2 seconds that you can hear in the background. The car has had a recent cambelt and water pump change. It has done 77,000 miles. https://photos.app.goo.gl/5x5AWop6bGdFEe327 Thank you in advance.
  6. Hi, I wonder if anyone could advise me regarding the attached video? I'm extremely new here and would like some advice. My Audi A6 2.7TDi has developed a loud ticking on and off during idle, the video shows two items simultaneously activating on and off continuously. I think these are the control unit for the turbo, and the other perhaps related to the exhaust gas recirculation sensor? This noise / action continues for a short time after the ignition is turned off. If anyone has any ideas on what is possibly causing this, I would be grateful for your input. IMG_0789.MOV
  7. Hi there, first time posting here. I have a 2011 Audi A5 2.0 TFSI with 85k A bit of backstory.. My cars timing belt went while driving and was replaced in January. This was caused by the timing belt tensener becoming slack. After that my car has been struggling to keep constant revs when cold and ended up misfiring on a long drive. I managed to limp it to my garage where they changed the O2 sensor. The car seemed fine untill about a month ago when a wired metallic rattle started when letting off the gas. Sounds a bit like a clockwork spring being released. At first I could only hear it after turning the engine off but has now got louder. Sounds like it is coming from the left side of the engine. My car has started misfiring again and is currently undrivable as one of the cylinders isn't working. It also has a fault code saying the engine is running to rich at idle. This has gone after both repairs but returns after a few weeks. I had a fault code last year saying the car was running to lean but went after a week so haven't been to worried about that. I hardly drive my car. Probably around 1000 miles this year. Could anyone provide a bit of help. Just want to sell it now but need to get it working first
  8. Hello Everyone I bought my Audi A6 C7 2012 last month it started making noise from the front suspensions this month I took it back to the dealer they changed lower arm both front but that did stop the noise knowing that it only does it if there is a road bump where the tyres drops or on motorway bump that makes the car raise high that when it does it what do you guys think? is it ARms or bushes or shock absorber please Help
  9. Hi knowledgeable people! after many hours of research I found this video the only issue is the guy in the video doesn't explain it! It sounds like it is coming from the glove box area and goes cray when I switch the engine off and sometimes at other random times or when I switch the air con on. any ideas what it is and an estimate of cost please? would be appreciated many thanks Jamie
  10. Hi all, I have an Audi A3, 2015, S-Line, 2.0 TDI, Diesel and I have recently heard a faint grinding or crunching noise coming from the engine area, like a 'Skrrr Skrrr' noise when the engine is stationary. I have taken it to Audi several times and they are unable to rectify the fault. I am concerned that it could lead to something major and cost me a pretty penny in the future. I have attached a video for the sound to be heard hopefully over the loud diesel engine. If anyone would be kind enough to identify the noise or fault, it would be highly appreciated. IMG_2649.MP4
  11. Never a dull moment with this car, new minor I hope issue. Every now and again randomly it makes a short low 2-3 second sound weird errrr noise only on cold start up? Should I be worried or just minor I can ignore? I recall my golf mk4 starter motor for years made a loud horrible sweek on start up but I could not be bothered to spend the money to replace as it did not effect driving the Car.
  12. Hi. I'm new to this forum as I've just bought my first Audi A3. I was hoping someone here can help me! I've got a 2.0 TDI Quattro and noticed a couple of days after buying it that there is a whining noise coming from the rear of the car, sounds like near side, when i lift off the throttle and decelerate from 80mph. The noise can be heard at lower and higher speeds but its most noticeable between 80 down to 70mph. Another couple of things to add is that the noise goes away when i apply the brakes, and the noise is still present when out of gear. I took it to an Audi specialist and the identified the following: - No abnormal noise from wheel bearings - NSR brake disc face corroded/lipped/scored - Suspect scraping noise is brake pad picking g up on brake disc lip - Rear prop shaft bush is split, but with correct movement of the outer weight - Rear diff drive shaft oil seal has slight leak but oil level ok - Rear diff output shaft has excessive movement, expect this is due to a worn bearing in rear diff, expect this is the reason for the noise. Based on this, i took it to a gearbox/diff specialist for a refurbished and they were reluctant to work on it as they weren't convinced the noise was from the diff. Another thing to note (not sure if relevant) is that when changing lanes on the motorway, the rear of the car squirms a bit when moving over the middle of the road/white lines. Anyone else experienced this or know what the noise might be? Thanks in advance for your help!
  13. Hi Recently took ownership of a 2010 1.8TFSI A3 Sportback and I have this weird noise it gives on start up. I did a bit of a Google and saw a few saying its quite common, but its still bugging me so thought I'd ask here for any other comments. I've got a recording which isn't the best but gives a bit of an idea, can hear it kick in about 12.5 seconds in. https://youtu.be/qgiU5GVAQYQ I've got to take it in under warranty as it's drinking through oil at the minute :-( but wasn't sure if this is normal or not and is something else which needs mentioning at the same time? Thanks Ads
  14. Hi My Audi Q7 (2007) has some ticking noise coming from engine, is this normal? Ticking definitely coming from the sides of the engine. Starting to here it more when accelerating, even over music. (Might be hearing it more because I'm being paranoid about it ;) Here a video, best to here it with headphones as you can here it louder when I move mic to sides of the engine. I looked at a few videos on YouTube and cannot here this noise and read is some USA forums that this noise is normal? Just some advice on this. Thanks
  15. Hi guys! I have a 54 plate A3 Quattro 2.0T and I've had it for a few months now. At crawling speeds it makes a clearly audible thud when moving off, and feels the same as when your handbrake might stick (Its not the brakes as i've checked those .This wasnt much of a problem until it began to get worse (more knocking noises). I suspect that its a loose driveshaft connection and is just taking up the torque. A month or so after i bought it it developed a misfire so took it back to the dealer who fixed it under warranty. the procedure for removing the head somehow involved removing most of the 4WD system and gearbox etc and a week after i got it back it developed the above noise, and so naturally i suspec that that may have been the cause. My question to you lot is whether any of you have experienced such a noise, and what did you do to fix it? Many thanks!
