Hello all, I have a nightmare A5 petrol coupe 1.8TFSI that's been plagued with an erratic idling issue for 3 months now. It has stumped so called qualified Audi trained mechanics and master-technicians ! I have had the throttle body, MAP sensor, PCV valve rubber gasket replaced with no improvement upon advice from these expert idiots. I have had a smoke test that has pinpointed no leaks at all. Have been told that now it is a case for Audi £££ charging ppl . The car ran fine for 4 months and out of the blue the engine light came on followed by the rough idle. There has been no loss of power and no strange whistles or sounds from the engine. When car is started from cold it seems ok but once warmed up or the throttle blipped then the rough idle begins! codes state higher than expected engine rpm and codes cite possible air intake leak, MAP/MAF sensor correlation. It has already cost me serious money in parts replaced not to mention the hours wasted diagnosing what the hell is wrong! Please help? Thank you

Hi, I’m having a few issues with my Audi A5. Firstly, anytime I start the car on a cold engine the car shakes for a few minutes 2-3 mins due to excess air build up. This is the error codes I get: P2187 - lean fuel mixture at an idle in either Bank 1 P2279 - intake air system leak I tried using fuel injector cleaners and the engine light still keeps coming back with these two codes. Anytime I reset the codes and start the engine the engine excessively shakes for around 3 minutes until I rev the air out. I think that the P2279 code is due to some air leak and I am planning to run a smoke test through the engine to detect the leak, if no leak founds I saw somewhere that I should replace the sensor. I’ve also saw a video replacing the PCV valve diaphragm could fix the issue. My valve seems fine however I read somewhere that they may look ok but still be at fault. Therefore, I have ordered one and waiting for delivery (see attached photo). Apart from these two codes popping up and the engine light going off as well as the shakes when starting a cold engine the car runs perfect. Anyone had any similar issues or know what the problem could be here?

I was on the road this morning at just before 0500, heading from Norfolk to Bristol for a business trip. Just after an hour into the journey I got the 'glow plug' warning light flashing... ...followed by a reduction in power as the cruise control clicked offline and the car went into 'limp home' mode. I pulled into a layby and switched the engine off and back on again - which cured it for about 30 seconds, after which it came back again. I turned around and headed home. At some stage, about 20 mins later I think, the 'Check Engine' light came on... ...followed, with a beep, some 10 minutes later, by the DPF Filter warning light... Oh joy. I made it back home and plugged in the OBD Eleven and got the following: P227900 - Intake Air System Leak static priority - 1 frequencyCounter - 2 drivingCycle - 255 km-Mileage - 170257 km This apparently suggests an air leak. I watched our very own Gav's YouTube video on the fault, which involved doing a smoke test (which failed to show any leaks) and then the replacement of a Mass Air Sensor. The car Gav was fixing was a later model than mine with a different engine (mine is a 2006 2.0TDi 140 with a BPW engine), but this seems a reasonable diagnostic course to follow, doesn't it? I'm tempted to think that the 'limp home mode' for over an hour might be the cause of the DPF Filter warning, and that an 'Italian tune-up' might well clear it. Any ideas or comments welcome. Thanks, Mike 😎 PS If you're not subscribed to Gav's YouTube channel, I recommend it - used it twice this week already! 👍

Had a 2014 tdi in last week going into limp mode under load, glow light flashes on dash. Fault resets every time ignition is cycled. p2279 intake air leak stored in ECU. carried out air leak test with smoker, no leaks present . Fault turned out to be faulty MAP sensor giving incorrect readings, only available from the dealer at present time .. retails at £52.28 + vat Nice little DIY fix that will hopefully help some of you 🙂 https://youtu.be/kqIB83gMszk
