I got the dreaded rattle coming from the turbo. after trawling the forums I convinced myself it was the was actuator linkage. And not something more sinister.. ie something rattling in the engine. I had a rattle on deceleration <2K rpm i wasn’t in any rush to replace the turbo so bought the clip that was supposed to cure the rattle. Also I really didn’t want to remove the turbo or the exhaust pipe in order to access the area where the clip needed fitting. i squashed the clip in a vice to ensure it was a tighter fit. Then basically I attached the clip into a socket head (can’t remember the size) with a rubber band. And with a socket extension and a cheap iPhone endoscop, I was able to see and reach right up to the actuator arm linkage behind the headers and slide the clip right on. this cured the rattle but I don’t expect it to last long. No, I've not sold it...its been driving so well, I don't want to! However, there is a clunking, heavy rattle on the roads here. Unclassified and B roads mainly. Seems to go away at speed and on the A roads. I have an MOT due so they may find the cause, but I thought I'd check in here first. Any ideas??

Hi all, I bought my S4 before lockdown and noticed a irregular clonking noise coming from the engine. So while the garage is closed for lockdown I thought I’d turn to you good people to see if you could recognise it from the video. Not the high pitched ticking but lower pitched random sound which hopefully you can hear. Thanks David P.S new member today IMG_1607.MOV

Morning all. Just popped the bonet whilst the engine was running. I noticed one hell of a rattle from the Airbox. If I press on it. It stops. Anyone else had this? Also, is it a cambelt or cam chain? It sounds like a chain to me. I hope it is 😂 the attachment shows the sticker on the cover. Another sticker says CJCA Thanks in advance. Seán

Hey Guys, I am new to forums, I have an issue here and have been trying to find the issue online for months! Car: Audi A4 S line 2009 B8 The issue is as follows: Rattle noise coming from front/mid end of the car (not sure if its inside or outside) - hard to locate. at its worst after first starting up the car, driving over bumps and uneven roads. Runs perfectly on dual carriage ways/motorways. passed MOT has full service history, so no mechanic has been able to locate the issue but can hear the rattle. Would anyone else have any information that could possibly locate this annoying noise? I am fed up of having to drown out the noise with music!!! Suspension and main parts been checked by a mechanic. I'd appreciate if anyone could help! Thanks. -
Hiya, I have an A5 s line special edition 3.0v6 coupè, there is the most annoying rattle coming from the boot when I go over the slightest bump. Had a look on the left hand side where there seems to be some brains for something mounted but all seems ok? The rattles comes from that side but can't seem to locate it, had anyone had anything similar at all?? Thanks

Hi everyone, I've noticed a bit of a rattle when accelerating from low revs. it disappears when revs increase and I can only hear it when the window is down (but it is noticeable). The rattle isn't there when I'm in neutral - its only when accelerating. I'm no mechanic but I would guess its exhaust. has anyone had anything similar?

i bought an audi a3 1.8t 150bhp,agu code. car is completely standard. after a 320mile drive home the car has developed a rattle under gentle acceleration at about 2500-3000rpm, it also rattles when i lift of the throttle but it goes away when it drops below 2500rpm or when i accelerate, i am pretty sure it is the turbo as when i take if for a joyfull drive then turn it off, when i restart the car it gasses me out. this doesnt happen very often but i was told that it sounded like turbo seals, i think the bearing may be rattling now, ive not had the chance to check. iwas looking at the ko3 rebuild kit for around £30. i am confident about doing the work myself. has anyone rebuilt there turbo thereselves. thanks
