I have an Audi A4 2.0 diesel on a 17 plate. had a new timing belt done. Car running perfect. However the following comes on every time. start/stop system fault: function unavailable Driver system fault: contact Workshop. anyone have an ideas what could be causing it? Had an independent garrage plug it in to diagnose it. No fault codes at all.

So, this happened a few weeks ago, and now it's happened again. For reference: 2014 A5 sportback 2.0TDI (140) First time was stop start not being able to cycle properly (car told me to manually restart the engine) causing the EML to come on. Last night I drove almost 500 miles, Stopped off to grab a drink and have a rest, I got in car, pulled upto a stop sign at a services road, and as I didn't remember to disable stop start, the EML came on again. It usually stays on for a couple of days, then goes off on its own. I'm going to book it in for later this week to have Audi have a looksee and see what they can find, but out of curiosity, what OBD readers would you guys recommend as if this keeps happening, I want to be able to see what's causing the issue and get into it as it happens. Cheers!

We are having problems with the Stop Start that are becoming increasingly frequent - and dangerous! In the last three months there have been four occasions when either my wife or I have been through the following sequence of events:1/ Pull up at the stop line to enter a roundabout (we live near Milton Keynes, so there are lots of them!)2/ After a few seconds the 2.0TD engine cuts out (as it should) to save fuel3/ Take foot off brake. Engine restarts.4/ Press accelerator & move out onto roundabout.5/ After 5-10 yards the engine dies & the vehicle comes to a halt.6/ Put auto gearbox back into neutral & restart (as quickly as possible) waving apologies to other motorists! It is only a matter of time before this causes an accident. We have taken to disengaging the Stop-Start completely. But this should not happen. At this moment we are driving an A4 Avant courtesy car, having refused to take the fully serviced Q5 back after a service until / unless the Audi dealer sorts it out.The fact they cannot find it on their analyser is neither here not there. Nor is the fact they have driven to a few roundabouts and been unable to replicate this dangerous problem.
